Paula O’ Callaghan graduated from University College Cork in 2002 with a B.A. in French and Archaeology. Following this she worked in retail for a number of years, eventually reaching management but couldn’t resist the urge to do something creative. She completed a number of short courses but was immediately taken with the small scale construction and precision of jewellery making. Paula decided to make a career change and enrolled in a two year course in jewellery and metal craft in St. John’s College, Cork. She then went on to work in DesignWorks Studio in Cork with Tuula Harrington where she gained a valuable insight into the jewellery trade. In 2013 Paula was accepted onto the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland’s Jewellery and Goldsmithing Skills & Design Course. Drawn to simple forms, strong lines and contrasting textures, Paula’s work is inspired by architecture and industrial landscapes. She was awarded the Future Makers Student Design Award and a Materials Support Award in 2015. Paula plans to increase her skills and gain relevant industry experience in Ireland.
