A B O U TSplash is the first of many art shows held for Kew Primary School. It is designed to raise much needed funds for the school – going into teaching resources, inspiring and developing the kids.

A clear focusSPLASH will feature contemporary art from emerging and a few mid career artists focused on Melbourne.

ThemeAt the artists discretion, specific works can be created to this year’s theme: Childhood.

The venueThe show will be held in the sports complex, a modern, open space with floor to ceiling windows. It provides an airy and light space to showcase the art at its best.

Security and insurance is provided throughout.

AudienceKew Primary School is located just off High Street, in the inner eastern suburb of Kew. The audience will comprise

Show Day Saturday 18 OctoberOpen Day to view and buy the art. An art & design shop, coffee and food will invite to linger. We will have an artist create a piece on the day. Artists are invited to meet potential buyers and engage.

At 10 am the kids art show will be opened and a jury will select the best of show for each year.

Family Fun Day Sunday 19 OctoberOn Sunday we will add kids engagement and fun games. The day offers those that could not make up their minds on Saturday the chance to buy the art they want.

the school families & their friends and familiesLocal community (we expect to draw local community in a radius of ~ 5 km)Visitors from across Melbourne with a keen interest in contemporary art.We expect over 1,000 adult visitors for the weekend of the Show

The programWednesday 15 OctoberThe venue is set up. Artists bring and set up their work.

Gala Evening 17 OctoberThe show will be kicked off on October 17 with a Gala evening. We will have a prominent speaker introducing the Show and the evening will be MC’d. Typically we attract 300+ people to our events.

ORGANISATIONArtist and Gallery relationsYou will have a dedicated contact partner that is backed by all the other functions important to the Show.

Artist selectionA team of experienced parents will work with the galleries and artists in selection and pricing.

PromotionWe have put together a team of brand specialists, PR and marketing professionals that will ensure a professional image that reflects well on the galleries and artists and a professional campaign to maximise visitor numbers.

Our team have access to PR resources and TV coverage. It is envisaged to hold artist interviews and features in the lead up to the Show, creating media points of interest.

FeesEntry is by invite only. $5 non refundable fee for each submission. $25 for each selected work invited to be hung. 30% commission on all sales.

Show designParents with background in exhibitions, shows and interior/visitor flow design will set up the show and curate it in conjunction with key gallerists.

Show organisationA team of professionals takes care of organisation, finance, insurance, security, logistics.

T H E T E A MThe total team comprises 30 parents, teachers and other supporters from the community. Each bring their professional skills to the project. Hereafter we introduce a few key members.

Project DirectorJayne CampbellJayne is a highly experienced project director and entrepreneur who takes initiative in formulating ideas and implementing business strategies, consistently delivering exceptional business results. With skills including start-up business plans, strategies, operations, policies, training and staff management, Jayne has successfully established and run several national and state-based businesses including Moving Menus Sydney, Moving Menus Melbourne and Whatspot. Jayne is passionate about art and also with enhancing the local school her children attend.

The Artist Selection TeamLeanne MercerCurrently Executive Producer with the Nine Network, where she has produced travel program Postcards and live specials for the past nine years, Leanne was also Executive Producer of Network Ten‘s Good Morning Australia with Bert Newton for 12 years. During that time she wrote the critically acclaimed Take Forty, published by Pan Macmillan, in which she interviewed women around the country on turning forty. Leanne has worked for newspapers and in television in Brisbane, London and Melbourne. For three years she was a board member of the Monash Gallery of Art, Wheeler‘s Hill.

Sylvia VoigtPassionate about my 7 year old daughter and art. As a photographer having exhibited in group hangs and along with her art. I have travelled extensively - to The Louvre, Tate, Prado, Hermitage GOMA, AGNSW, NGV. I have retail sales, management and marketing experience enabling me to get the best out of my people and products.

Show Design and LayoutJoanna SzeszyckaSenior Interior Designer and Strategic Consultant, Joanna is in charge of the show design and layout for Splash 2014.She is a leading innovator in workspace design, having worked on landmark projects in Europe, North America, Asia Pacific and Australia. Joanna’s unique skills in translating the research and strategy information into design concepts, perspectives and space plans have been utilised on such award-winning projects as Campus MLC in North Sydney and Arup’s Hong Kong office. Joanna is an Interior Designer and has worked for firms such as Gensler, Hassell, Woods Bagot and DEGW.

Finance CommitteeAmanda AitkenSchool Council Treasurer at Kew Primary School, Amanda is a senior actuarial consultant at WorkSafe Victoria, specialising in the medical trends and performance of the scheme. She was instrumental in the 2009 Ambassador program, which included time spent in the UK and Sweden, learning about some of the challenges and opportunities faced by their compensation schemes. Amanda spent four years as a consultant at Tillinghast-Towers Perrin, an actuarial consulting firm, in both their life and general insurance areas.

Stefan GrafeStefan is Managing Director of Mext, a company specialising in brand development and customer engagement. After studying design and fine arts in Germany and France, Stefan worked as Creative and Strategy Director for Bates and BBDO in Europe, Asia and Australia.Stefan is responsible for the design and branding of Splash 2014.

Claire BowersClaire Bowers recently arrived in Melbourne from the UK, where she spent fifteen years in senior PR and marketing roles. This included eight years as Head of Communications for BBC Television, where she headed up the PR strategy for specialist factual (including arts) programs and launched the cultural TV channel, BBC Four. She was also Media Relations Manager for The Natural History Museum in London which included leading the annual PR campaign for the internationally recognised Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition and exhibition.

Claire TannerClaire is President of Kew Primary School‘s PTA (Parent Teachers‘ Association) where she has successfully led major profile-raising and fundraising activities for the school. She has previously worked for not-for-profit communities such as the Uniting Church and North Kew Kindergarten. Claire is passionate about art that challenges our preconceived notions of self, community and what is possible in our world.
