Dear Art Lover,Thank you for taking the time to review this packet to find out more about ARTISANworks.

Years ago, founder Louis Perticone had a vision of sharing his passion for art and art collecting with the Rochester Community. Today, AW is a not-for-profit corporation that brings life to the art world with an experience unlike any other. We hope you will find, as we do, that the mission of ARTISANworks provides an ideal model for support of the arts for everyone.

We believe that our unique model for bringing art to life is one that you will find irresistible and desire to be a part of. Whether as a member, endowing partner, or a patron interested in bringing art to life in your own city by becoming a Sister City, we know that you will find the experience of AW to be unparalleled.

There are a number of initiatives taking place at AW that make it unique:

- We are a self-funding community art space

- Artist studios are partially subsidized

We provide:

- Community outreach to the forgotten community of older adults

- Special events for corporations and individuals

- Fine Art acquisition and rental programs

- Hands on workshops for adults, students and businesses

- Regular events that invite the community to enjoy the AW experience

It is our goal to bring art to life in a dynamic model of partnership between artists, older adults, students, local corporations and the community. We intend to usher this model into this continued state of self-funding through partnership, membership and the hosting of varied and unequaled experiences that define ARTISANworks.

Please join us in our journey of self-funding into the uncharted future of creativity.

Thank you!

- Louis Perticone and the AW team

“Creativity involves breaking out of established patterns in order to look at things in a different way.” - Edward de Bono

MISSION: Find a niche, build a dream. Your community will live it with you.

Sister CityWe cordially invite you to share in the spirit of giving. Give to your community by actively seeking out spaces and encouraging restoration. URBAN redevelopment programs bring new life to post-industrial empty spaces. These spaces often have enormous character that bring history to life while being creatively inspiring. Find a patron, a philanthropist, a realty group or a relative who shares your passion for building an emphasis on arts in the community. Create jobs and programs for youths and adults. Tell your local leadership councils. It won’t be long before you pass by a newly renovated arts complex on your way home.

TO BEGIN:

- Find a qualified patron

- Experience ARTISANworks

- Awaken your imagination

- Learn about the overall project

- Arrange for a consultation

MOVING FORWARD:

- Choose a site

- Develop a theme/tribute

- Develop the first phase

- Develop a self-funding plan

- Attain 501(c)3 status

MISSION: Find a niche, build a dream. Your community will live it with you.

“These folks have stripped art of its pretense and in doing so have developed a new approach to art appreciation that is yearning for a wider application throughout the USA. How many economically challenged communities, where buildings sit vacant for decades, would not benefit from a venture like this? What an imaginative world it would be if artwork were more readily available to the millions of Americans who realize that something’s missing from their lives but can’t put their finger on what that might be.”

- Daile KaplinDirector of Photography Swann Galleries

Who we are...Well, let’s start with Who we are NOT...ARTISANworks is not a gallery! Although we are often referred to as a gallery, unlike traditional galleries, we are here for the artists - not necessarily for the viewing public. Yes, we have similar events a gallery may have such as openings, lectures and workshops, but we also have a community of artists living and working within our walls. Usually, when you attend an opening for an artist, there is a cocktail party, you meet the artist, then go home and maybe think about the art - possibly give the gallery a call to learn more. The show lasts several weeks, then moves on to the next city or back to the closet. At AW we not only have the artist’s opening, we purchase most of that artist’s work and commission more work - “incubating” that artist. After you go home and think about the art on our walls, you can come back and truly rediscover that artist. Not only do we show artists — we celebrate them!

ARTISANworks is NOT a Museum! Again, you say, “But it looks like a museum with world famous artist and collections...” But unlike traditional museums, we are HANDS-ON. Try going to your local museum and running your hands along the sculptures! At ARTISANworks you can live, taste, explore, discover and play amidst the art!

Traditional museums can be aloof and uninviting. AW encourages all levels of interest to truly enjoy the beauty of art in its many forms. Not only will your eyes be stimulated, but your ears will be stirred with the art of music flowing through our halls; your sense of touch will be titillated as you feel many different textures; your sense of smell will awaken with gourmet tastings scattered throughout the space. Most of all - your soul will be touched by all of the different experiences blending together. We often hear, “I just cannot take this

all in with one visit - I must come back tomorrow!” And they do.

What ARTISANworks IS — we are a 21st Century art space in which we honor successful, prominent artists and their work. Founder, Louis Perticone is much the same as Alfred Stieglitz was in 1902 with Gallery 291 - they are both committed to showcasing American artists and bringing all art to the masses, in an art space where all are welcome. From students, local artists, modern artists, realist artists, illustrators, sculptors, printers, craftsman, the crazy and the tame, to the world famous as well as unknowns... They are all here within our reach, side by side, hanging from the rafters as well as the walls... for EVERYONE to experience and enjoy.

AW is primarily self-funded through in-house events and other functions. Therefore, we are not dependant on government funding and not frightened or limited by what is hung in our art spaces. We live by the philosophy of not over-planning — show the world everything for all to take it in. Some will enjoy it, some will critique it... But everyone will experience it! Come enjoy it yourself and share the experience with others!

ARTISANworks is the perfect venue for almost every celebration or gathering you can imagine. We have hosted corporate meetings, weddings, conferences, birthday parties, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, cocktail hours, workshops, lectures, gala fundraisers, private dinners, sweet 16 parties, 60th wedding anniversaries, fashion shows with runways and multi-media tech shows — just about anything you want to celebrate. We are here to help plan every aspect of your event, something your guests will talk about for some time to come.

Built in 1926 as the Farrell Factory Building where the U.S. Navy manufactured cannons, ARTISANworks today occupies the $4 million dollar renovated facility that can fulfill any event’s requirements. Set among the artwork, we plan out every detail so you can be assured that your event will “go off” without a hitch.

Make your event an experience!

The Main Showroom:Follow the train tracks through our Main Showroom, the public entrance to our vast art space. This space is complete with a hardwood dance floor, elevated platform and dining area, a balcony suited for wedding ceremonies and speeches, and a bandstand for live musicians. This area is suited for events with 100 guests.

Vertigo Heights:This space is home to our grandest works of art and is named with respect to the high ceilings and Hitchcock-esque theme. Perfect for large parties such as weddings and proms, Vertigo Heights holds more than 300 guests comfortably. This room features a spacious open area suitable for theater seating, banquet tables, runways, as well as traditional event layouts. Attached to Vertigo Heights is our cocktail area, the Juke Joint. Special features such as a hardwood dance floor, elevated stage, large screen for multi-media displays, lectern and special lighting make this area ideal for larger events.

The Boulevard Garibaldi and Workshop:Roam the Workshop hallways at your leisure and stroll the Boulevard Garibaldi, named after the great Italian hero and Parisian art neighborhood. This “loop” is suited for interactive workshops and dynamic tours. It allows your guests to delve further into the realms of artistic exploration by entering specialty rooms such as the Frank Lloyd Wright Room located at the end of the Boulevard. This area will accommodate 150 guests.

The Rooftop:Follow the boardwalk that meanders across our rooftop and enjoy the sights and smells of the seasons. Summertime brings an array of flowers and herbs arranged in partnership by Broccolo Landscaping and ARTISANworks’ volunteers. Sunbathe on one of the many comfy lounge chairs and listen to the live music. What a great spot for a summer event — day or evening! At night the rooftop comes alive with the sights of the Rochester skyline and magnificent sunsets. Patio after patio will accommodate150 guests.

The Firehouse:One of our newest additions for unique solutions for your event, the Firehouse is home to a 1968 restored fire truck as well as local firehouse memorabilia and artwork. This room features two stories of space and fun. Downstairs is perfect for dinner tables and upstairs is a terrific space for cocktails and gaming with it’s large pool table and lounge chairs. This Firehouse space accommodates 75 guests.

Tribute Rooms:ARTISANworks’ various tribute rooms offer a unique setting for smaller gatherings. If you are tired of the same old setting, try a tea party in our Victorian Room, a corporate meeting in the Nautical Room, a tasting in our Tap Room or a lecture sitting in Mission style chairs crafted by Ross Rider in the traditional style of Frank Lloyd Wright. There is always something different to see, hear, smell and feel! Ask your AW event coordinator which of the following rooms would work best for your guest list.

The Frank Lloyd Wright RoomThe Retro Dental OfficeThe Tatami RoomThe Nautical RoomThe Tap RoomThe Photo SuiteThe Marilyn Monroe Room

Platinum Events:For the ultimate in grand events, we suggest using multiple art spaces to plan your guest’s experience. Think of the TRIPLE CIRCLE: 1) Wonderful music throughout; 2) Delicious food at every corner to tempt your taste buds; 3) Art as far as your eyes can see to awaken your creative soul. That is our description of the Platinum Event! Ask your ARTISANworks event coordinator about details!

“ARTISANworks is about Community. AW encourages art to live by

encouraging creativity in the young and the young at heart, by

encouraging the skilled and skilled at heart, by encouraging imagination

in the visitors and in the wanderers. ARTISANworks encourages art in

the Rochester community just as it can give art LIFE in your community.

...ARTISANworks speaks to the heart of all communities.”

- Louis Perticone - founder

Tours and Adventures:We welcome tour groups from schools and colleges, recreational clubs and chartered tour bus companies. Guided visits are available seven days a week. To schedule a tour, please call us one week in advance at 585.288.7170

Become a Volunteer:A rewarding way to work with the public as well as with the artists! We offer student internships that educate local students about the skills and duties required in the world of art. Volunteering is also a terrific way of meeting interesting local artists and creative characters of all types!

Sponsor an Outreach Program:We are a non-profit organization whose members demonstrate a commitment to ensuring that art is valued, encouraged and lives.

We take pride in a reciprocal relationship with our community. A large portion of the proceeds gathered through events directly funds our Outreach Programs. Resident Artists bring supplies to nursing homes and schools across the region for ongoing educational workshops. Budding creative minds from the Aquinas student body, AIDS Rochester, and Monroe Community Hospital have shared the joyful process of creating artwork with a seasoned artist. Some of the resulting work is proudly displayed on our gallery walls and in the facilities where the workshops are held.

We accept monetary donations from individuals and businesses. If there is an organization or school in the community at which you would like to start or sponsor a program, contact one of our administrative employees. Together, we can make a colorful and creative difference.

For more information about hosting or sponsoring a memorable Outreach Program, contact our Tours and Outreach Coordinator at 585.288.7170

Come see art live as our many in-house artists work at their craft. There is nothing like experiencing art as it is created. Photographers, painters, sculptors and musicians all become an integral part of the experience. As a member, you are entitled to attend art shows, openings, seminars, lectures and other happenings.

Mark GroaningBest known for his whimsical window paintings seen around town, Mark also works on canvas, wood, metal sculpture, handcrafted jewelry, glasswork and welded steel sculpture... Generally expressing himself as the Universe moves him to do.

April Laragy SteinOne of upstate New York’s favorite artists, April presents her latest artistic achievements that awaken the imagination. Influenced by Chagall, Matisse and early Kandinsky, April’s watercolor, gouache and acrylic paintings are compelling and rich with fantasy. The broad theme of her work embodies the earthly dimension of time and space, and makes a connection to a second dimension through the use of the canvas.April’s artistic talents are not limited to the visual arts. Her electric musical talents can be enjoyed at upstate NY venues.

Martine LeporeA native from Gates, NY, Lepore received her design education from FIT in New York City. From there she was captivated by the Italian Renaissance as she traveled across Europe. Now, back in Rochester, Lepore is haled as one of ARTISANworks original artists-in-residence displaying and creating her fine art pieces throughout the country and the world! Specializing in painting and drawing, she is able to reference historical and autobiographical experiences that any viewer is likely to relate to. Her masterful paintings contrast the awesome and the trivial, the manic and the melancholic, interweaving familiar elements to create beautiful and moving paintings.

Live with Art by experiencing...Art Lives in our CommunityRichard QuataertNot only is Richard a world renowned photographer, he is our master volunteer! In true Renaissance fashion, Richard’s art is so moving it speaks for itself. What most do not know, is that Richard has been an AW volunteer for over fourteen years! This speaks to Richard’s sterling character and his desire to give art back to others. View his many images in our upstairs photo studio but also take note that every piece of art was hung by Richard - including those that hang from the ceiling!

Ross RiderA Rochester native, Ross’s wood sculptures master complex and intricate detail, something that has made him one of the most respected sculptors of our time. He is a self-taught artist who discovered his passion for creating with wood in his grandfather’s wood shop. His work ranges from the functional (i.e., Stickley style furniture and cabinetry) to sculpture (i.e., totems, carousel horses, etc.). Ross is self-employed and his fine woodwork can be viewed in many prestigious private collections throughout the United States. The Elizabeth Collection has represented him for fourteen years, You can visit his wood working art studio daily at ARTISANworks.

Patrick DoyleEverywhere you look in our halls and rooms, there are geometric sculptures made out of everything from pencils to license plates... All created with the technical and artistic genius of Patrick Doyle.

Ron KetchumSince the age of 6, Ron started showing his talents with his interest in his mother’s bird paintings. Ron has been honing these talents ever since. After graduation from RIT, he along with two other colleagues, developed Kilborn Studios which later became Ron Ketchum Associates, one of the largest commercial art studios in upstate New York. Ron paints in a variety of techniques, styles and subject matter making him the perfect ARTISANworks artist.

Patron Art AcquisitionWe are all ART-Lovers inside! Though our taste may be different and our flair for the unusual may be varied shades of beige, we all have art in our souls. One of the perks of becoming a member of ARTISANworks is not only having the opportunity to enjoy art where it lives, but to let art live where you are! Bring it home! Bring it to your office! Give it as a gift! Donate it to an empty wall.

As a Patron member, you can purchase all your artwork for about half the suggested retail value... For instance, you could purchase a $5500 painting professionally framed for about $2500. Lease-to-Own Art AquisitionWhen you were out and about in Rochester whether at a restaurant, hotel or visiting an upscale office... did you take a look at the artwork on their walls? If it was something that you DID notice, the original art most likely came from ARTISANworks! Local businesses are able to rent original art work of any kind to display at their location.

With the Lease-to-own program you can “freshen” up your art every year to keep the look of your space current. After 5 years you can switch to the “10 year” program - we are very flexible.

Now, perhaps parking a Ross Rider Model-T sculpture is a bit much for your lobby, but an original oil painting or photo will add class and elegance

to any space. We will help you in the process if you are unsure of your selections. AW knows better than anyone that it’s not just about the color of your chairs in the lobby!

To start the process:

At the end of the program year use •fees as credit towards the purchase of the artwork or contribute them to programs for older adults or “bank” it for future purchases.
