Africa Skills Village | 2010/FE07/056 1 Artisans – Section 28 Africa Skills Village would like to provide an opportunity for labourers and employees in technical and engineering fields to receive recognition for prior learning and skills. Candidates need to comply with specific criteria as stipulated in the Manpower Act. This is also a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process. It is for people who has completed all required training or a person who has never been trained but works as an ‘artisan’ and meets all the requirements to qualify. Trade Tests offered by Africa Skills Village are available in the following scarce and critical trades: Welder Bricklayer Carpenter Plumber Electrician Entry level requirements & Process For an applicant to be eligible to do a trade test the applicant must write the pre trade test evaluation and submit the following documents: Completed prescribed application form to attempt a trade test Certified copies of identity document Certified copy of highest educational qualification Certified copy of National Certificate Part 2 (N2) or equivalent Written proof of relevant previous experience on the legal company letterhead including the registration number and contact person details Copy of the pre Trade Test Evaluation results The prescribed Medical Declaration questionnaire Record of Practical Experience FAQs 1. What are the requirements for section 28? No Qualification : 6 years formal experience Only N2 trade theory: 5 years formal experience Full N2 qualification : 4 Years formal experience 2. The difference between the ASV Trade Test and INDLELA Trade Test? There is no difference because the trade test itself is exactly the same. Artisans – Section 28 Africa Skills Village would like to provide an opportunity for labourers and employees in technical and engineering fields to receive recognition for prior learning and skills. Candidates need to comply with specific criteria as stipulated in the Manpower Act.

Certification of Artisans • Verification of all evidence prior to scheduling for the trade test

• DoHET is the accredited Moderation body for all training and testing

• Certification by the Department of Higher Education & Training

• Eden Skills Village centre is the accredited venue to train (educate) and assess:

o Bricklayer

o Plumber

o Electrician

o Welding

o Carpentry

• Red Square Hair Academy is the accredited venue to train and access:

o Hairdressing

• R 741.00 with registration / application (10%) No refund • R 4 617 payable at commencement of 1 week training period • R 2 052 payable before commencement of trade test
