GENERAL INFORMATION

Beacon College was the first postsecondary institution in the nation to offer accredited

baccalaureate degree programs exclusively for students with learning disabilities, Attention

Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and other learning differences. If you are a student who

has received educational support services at your community college to compensate for your

learning disability or ADHD and require continued services as you transition to upper level

coursework, Beacon College provides a great alternative to more traditional college programs

that may not offer academic support that is individualized to meet your needs.

Students who are admitted with an Associate of Arts/Science degree from a Florida public

community college receive junior standing. A minimum of sixty (60) credits will be transferred

from the two-year community college.

Students who are admitted with an Associate of Arts/Science degree from a Florida public

community college will be considered as having completed the general education requirements

for the Bachelor of Arts/Science degree.

To be awarded a Beacon College baccalaureate degree, a minimum of thirty (30) credits must be

earned at the College.

Evaluations of previous college work by two-year community college students who do not have

an A.A. or A.S. degree will be conducted on a course-by-course basis and in accordance with the

Beacon College Transfer Credit Policy.

GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS TO BEACON COLLEGE

Beacon College is a liberal arts college exclusively for students with learning disabilities and/or

ADHD. To complete requirements for admission, applicants must submit the following items to

the Office of Admissions:

1. Completed admission application, together with a non-refundable fee of $50.00.

2. An official high school transcript with documentation of diploma and date diploma received.

3. Official transcripts from any other colleges attended.

4. A psycho-educational evaluation that provides clear evidence of a specific learning

disability and/or ADHD. The date of the report must be less than three (3) years from the

current date.

GENERAL ADMISSION CRITERIA FOR BEACON COLLEGE

The Beacon College Admissions professionals conduct a highly individualized assessment of

each candidate’s application and documentation. Criteria for admission include:

1. Diagnosis of a specific learning disability or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

2. Average to superior intelligence as measured with a cognitive assessment conducted by a

licensed psychologist, neuropsychologist, or school psychologist; or a certified school

psychologist.

3. Candidates must be socially mature and have demonstrated motivation to complete the

academic requirements of an accredited college. These qualities are assessed in interviews

with the professional staff and through psychological evaluations.
