Tata Power to offer suite of services in rooftop solar drive

India's Tata Power Company Ltd plans to offer a range of services from advice and financing to installation and maintenance as it
strives to increase its share of the market for rooftop solar panels, a senior executive said on Tuesday.
Tata Power Solar, the renewable energy arm of Mumbai-headquartered Tata Power, is currently India's biggest rooftop solar panel
supplier.
But with a market share of just 6 percent, it sees plenty of scope for growth and aims to leverage its position as an integrated solar
power company - with a presence in manufacturing, engineering, construction and maintenance - to offer customers an end-to-end
service.
"We will give the benefit of low cost solar panels to our consumers and also help them (save money...) with other value-added services,"
Praveer Sinha, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Tata Power, told Reuters.
Ashish Khanna, CEO of Bangalore-headquartered Tata Power Solar, added the services would include consultancy, sourcing of solar
panels, installation and maintenance of rooftop structures as well as low cost financing and liaising with distributors.
He said the company would offer low cost financing through Tata group's financing arm, Tata Capital.
India has plans to install up to 175 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity by 2022, out of which 40 GW is expected to come
from rooftop solar panels. So far, however, the pace of rooftop installations has been just around 6 percent of the target, according to
government figures.
Tata Power Solar is also planning to launch a dealer network to better take on its myriad of competitors, which include Chinese
companies.
It plans to have 58 master dealers across nine states, with each having five third-party sales people under them, said a senior executive
who did not want to be named as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

Tata Power launches rooftop solar drive
https://www.dnaindia.com/mumbai/report-tata-power-launches-rooftop-solar-drive-2662097
South Mumbaikars will now have another option of getting electricity, this time through solar energy. Tata Power on Tuesday launched
a complete rooftop solution that will supply electricity to any housing society, who install solar panels. Currently, the presence of rooftop
solar energy among residential consumers is negligible; despite the fact that India is third largest country generating solar power.
This will be for the first time that a major power distributor like Tata Power is coming forth to help residential societies in installing
rooftop solar panels. "It is open for all residential societies. It is not necessary that they should be Tata Power consumers only," said
Praveer Sinha, CEO and MD, Tata Power.
This move comes at a time when the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) that gets its supply from TPC and then
distribute electricity to their 10 lakh consumers in the island city is looking out for other power distributors.
For years, BEST has had a power purchase agreement with TPC. But over the past several months now, the BEST is unhappy with
TPC targeting commercial consumers and big housing societies, which made them look for other distributors. The BEST has proposed
to buy electricity from the lowest bidder. They have also divided their 750 MW demand for electricity on hour basis.
The BEST Undertaking also claims to have rooftop solar power as an alternative. "We already have a net-metering scheme for rooftop
solar panel consumers who are in good number," said Dr Surendrakumar Bagde, General Manager, BEST Undertaking.
Sources in the BEST said that they have prepared details for the next power supplier and that they are in talks with distribution
companies. "Our discussions with BEST is going on," added Sinha when asked about the power purchase agreement with BEST.
'This complete rooftop solution will supply electricity to any housing society, who install solar panels. Currently, the presence of rooftop
solar energy among residential consumers is negligible.

Tata Power subsidiary launches rooftop solution, stock up 3 per cent
https://www.dsij.in/DSIJArticleDetail/ArtMID/10163/ArticleID/3768/Tata-Power-subsidiary-launches-rooftop-solution-stock-
up-3-per-cent
Tata Power Solar, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Power and the largest solar company in India, has launched an extensive
rooftop solution in Mumbai. With this solution, customers would be able to save up to Rs 50,000 annually for the next 25 years. The
company already holds more than 150 sales and service channel partners throughout the country which offers financing to its
consumers.
The residential rooftop solution decreases the use of diesel generators, thereby leading to fuel savings. Consumers would be able to
benefit and earn from their idle rooftop space. To reduce the expenses of the beneficiaries, the scheme offers government subsidiary.
The stock of Tata Power witnessed consolidation breakout for four consecutive days and surged more than 3 per cent in todays
session, despite the dicey market conditions. The stock was trading with lower tops and lower bottoms since May 2018 and formed a
reversal Doji at its 52-week low level of Rs 66.65 on July 23. It bounced back up to Rs 74.90, but hit a double top and tumbled yet
again up to Rs 67 where it hit a double bottom. Thereafter, the stock bounced back and breached its two major resistances at Rs 74.90
and Rs 77.25. The stock witnessed a pullback of up to 50 per cent retracement of the prior upward rally, followed by a bounce-back in
todays trading with rising volumes and the 14-period RSI positive crossover.

Tata Petrodyne may be sold to Invenire Energy
https://www.livemint.com/Companies/JaTI3clqFOwnQ0gYO3cbKL/Tata-Petrodyne-may-be-sold-to-Invenire-Energy.html
Mumbai: Invenire Energy Pvt. Ltd will likely acquire Tata Petrodyne Ltd (), the upstream oil and gas business of the diversified Tata
Group, said three people aware of the matter. Invenire Energy is backed by a consortium of private equity firms for the potential deal,
the people who didnt wish to be named said in an interview. The transaction is expected to close shortly, they said without disclosing
the estimated value of the deal.
Tata Petrodyne is a wholly owned unit of Tata Sons Ltd, the groups holding company. It has a net worth of about 400 crore.
It is a corporate-level transaction for 100% shares of Tata Petrodyne. Invenire is positive about the hydrocarbon assets which Tata
Petrodyne holds, said the first person cited above.
Directors of Chennai-based Invenire Energy include Vinod Kumar Saraogi, Manish Maheshwari, Rahul Saraogi and Prakash Kumar
Saraogi. Rahul Saraogi is also the founder and managing director of Atyant Capital Advisors.
Rahul Saraogi did not respond to an email seeking comment. A spokesperson for Tata Sons also declined to comment.
Invenire Energy has allocated an initial capital of $500 million towards building a sustainable oil and gas portfolio with a production
rate of about 10,000 barrels of oil per day in South-East Asia. The interest in Tata Petrodyne is part of that ambition.
Mint in January reported that the Tata Group has hired EY to explore the sale of Tata Petrodyne. The deal follows Tata Sons chairman
N. Chandrasekarans statement last July that the conglomerate is looking to prune its portfolio and exit businesses that are not offering
returns.
The Tata Group may use the sale proceeds to repay part of its debt, said the second person mentioned above.
The groups companies, Tata Power Ltd, Tata Steel Ltd and Tata Motors Ltd have a combined debt of about 2.3 trillion.
Tata Petrodyne has a participating interest in four oil and gas blocks in India and one each in Indonesia and Tanzania. In its Indian
blocks, the company holds between 21-30% stake in four oil and gas blocks.
Its partners are Hardy Exploration and Production (India) Inc, Hindustan Oil Exploration Co Ltd, Oil and Natural Gas Corp. Ltd and
Cairn India Ltd.
Over the past few years, Tata Petrodyne has not expanded its hydrocarbon business given its limited success in the sector.
Tata Petrodyne has frozen hiring and also slashed salaries of a few employees, said the third person cited above.

Tata Power plans big play in nascent rooftop solar power generation market
https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/business/companies/tata-power-plans-big-play-in-nascent-rooftop-solar-power-
generation-market-2942491.html
Viswanath Pilla
Moneycontrol News
In a big push towards capturing the residential consumers, Tata Power Solar, the wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power, Indias
largest independent power producer on September 11 launched a complete rooftop solution in Mumbai.
Tata Power generated nearly one-third of 10,757 megawatt (MW) operational capacity from renewable sources like wind and solar, as
on March 31, 2018. Of the renewable power, Solar constitutes half of the companys operational capacity.
Tata Power management considers renewables as one of the key growth drivers and is targeting 40-50 percent of its total generation
capacity from non-fossil fuel based generation sources by 2025.
Tata Power sees residential rooftop solution as a major mass market product in the years ahead, given the steep drop in prices of
photovoltaic cells, the brand name, scale and in-house manufacturing capabilities of Tata's and government subsidies for renewables.
Today, however, the pie of residential rooftop market is small and scattered with dozens of small companies jostling for space.
India has only 1.9 gigawatts (GW) of rooftop solar installations, mostly commercial and industrial (C&I), against the governments
ambitious target of 40 GW by 2022. In residential space India has just 0.4 GW installed capacity as against the target of 70 GW as of
September 2017.
The renewable energy producer estimates that Mumbai alone has a potential to generate about 4,000 MW solar energy on rooftops.
Tata Power wants to change the game by bringing consumer goods kind of focus - through anaggressive marketing campaign, use of
technology-enabled service model, and offering finance options to customers.
The company roped in another group firm Tata Capital to provide finance to customers buying the rooftop solution with easy payment
options.
Typically, it costs around Rs 50,000 and an idle rooftop space to set up 1 kW, the company said.
Tata Power claims its rooftop solution would allow theresidential customer to save up to Rs 50,000 annually for 25 years through a
combination of savings on electricity bills and sale of surplus power to the grid through a mechanism called net metering.
With rooftop solar solution, a customer is not just the consumer of electricity but also becomes a producer, said Praveer Sinha, CEO
and MD of Tata Power.
There is a huge potential to scale it up and being the number one player in this segment, Tata Power Solar is taking this solution at
the retail level, Sinha added.
Sinha said they want to take the rooftop solutions from current five cities to another nine cities in next six months.
Tata Power operates a manufacturing unit in Bangalore, with a production capacity of 400 MW of modules and 300 MW of cells.
It has completed more than 1.45 GW of ground-mount utility scale and over 250 MW of rooftop and distributed generation projects
across the country till date.
However, experts see several hurdles to cross before rooftop solar generation becomes mainstream.
While power distribution companies (discom) have agreed to allow grid connectivity and purchase the electricity through net metering.
But somediscoms are yet to providegrid connectivity.
Given the poor financial health, many discoms are dragging their feet on buying power from residential homes.
The high upfront capital expenditure compared to commercial and industrial (C&I) consumers, a lack of financing options and cheaper
grid electricity for residential consumers with low consumption currently make rooftop PV (photovoltaic) less attractive for residential
consumers than their C&I counterparts, said a report of Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF).

right down to operations & maintenance of the rooftop solar installation.
The programme will be rolled out pan-India, Sinha said, adding that the rooftop solar programme was launched in Delhi in early
September this year, followed by Mumbai. The plan was to cover all Tier-1, 2 and 3 cities. Even in rural areas, Tata Power would be
offering relevant solutions, solar power-fed agricultural pumps, for instance.
When asked if the RESCO (or OPEX) model would be deployed, Praveer Sinha noted that this would be considered for industrial
users. For residential consumers, the rooftop solar solution would be a direct sale.
On competition, Sinha observed that though there were number of players offering similar solutions, Tata Power was seeking to
capitalize on the trustworthy Tata brand image.
Ashish Khanna, President, Tata Power (Renewables), also spoke to the media maintained that there were challenges when it comes
to net-metering policies of various state power utilities. There are challenges and opportunities with respect to net-metering policies.
However, Tata Power is aiming to create a win-win situation for both consumers and discoms. After all, discoms also have their RPOs
to honour, Khanna said.
Tata Power Solars residential rooftop solution decreases the use of diesel generators, hence leading to more fuel savings. Apart from
this, the consumers can avail a chance to earn from their idle rooftop space.
To further ease the beneficiaries expenses, the proposition comes with government subsidy. The company already has a robust 150+
sales and service channel partners across India which provides its valuable consumers with financing options.

Tata Power to offer suite of services in rooftop solar drive
http://www.asianage.com/technology/in-other-news/120918/tata-power-to-offer-suite-of-services-in-rooftop-solar-drive.html
Indias Tata Power Company Ltd plans to offer a range of services from advice and financing to installation and maintenance as it
strives to increase its share of the market for rooftop solar panels, a senior executive said on Tuesday.
Tata Power Solar, the renewable energy arm of Mumbai-headquartered Tata Power, is currently Indias biggest rooftop solar panel
supplier.
But with a market share of just 6 percent, it sees plenty of scope for growth and aims to leverage its position as an integrated solar
power company - with a presence in manufacturing, engineering, construction, and maintenance - to offer customers an end-to-end
service.
We will give the benefit of low-cost solar panels to our consumers and also help them (save money...) with other value-added services,
Praveer Sinha, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Tata Power, told Reuters.
Ashish Khanna, CEO of Bangalore-headquartered Tata Power Solar, added the services would include consultancy, sourcing of solar
panels, installation, and maintenance of rooftop structures as well as low-cost financing and liaising with distributors.
He said the company would offer low-cost financing through Tata groups financing arm, Tata Capital.
India has plans to install up to 175 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity by 2022, out of which 40 GW is expected to come
from rooftop solar panels. So far, however, the pace of rooftop installations has been just around 6 percent of the target, according to
government figures.
Tata Power Solar is also planning to launch a dealer network to better take on its myriad of competitors, which include Chinese
companies.

It plans to have 58 master dealers across nine states, with each having five third-party salespeople under them, said a senior executive
