Does art imitate life or does life imitate art? What value does creativity hold in modern society? How has creativity helped shape societies in the past? As an art student, you will explore these kinds of questions, investigating the roots of your own creative experience and view of the world.

Your degree will begin by studying how art connects us with the world, exploring familiar subject matter in new ways. From this foundation, you will explore a wide range of artistic media including painting, drawing, sculpture, photo-arts, printmaking, and audio and video recording/editing and digital media.

You’ll also delve into Art History, studying the Masters in the context of their time and place. You will learn how their creativity and social situations caused one evolution after another in the art world, and in many cases, influenced the rest of the world around them.

The Student Art SocietyThe Art Society promotes and stimulates both student and public awareness of visual arts in Lethbridge and surrounding area by providing exhibition opportunities, information resources, curating and adjudicating opportunities and peer support.

The Art Society has more than 300 members and displays student artwork in community venues like the Penny Coffee House, Sterling Mutuals, City Hall and Westside Starbucks.
