2018 started off at the Museum of Art | Fort Collins (MoA) with a rebranding and slight change to
our name. Through the efforts of Erik Cox from Wise Ape designs, the museum introduced a new
logo and branding strategy that carries across all materials to advertise the museum. The Board
decided to tweak the name of the museum to the Museum of Art | Fort Collins to give primacy to
the museum and underscore the fact that we are not a city-owned institution.
We started off our programming for 2018 with the Sue McNally: This Land is My Land exhibition,
which looked at the western landscapes of this Rhode Island based artist. With this exhibition, we
also inaugurated our Artist to Artist House concert series, which pairs local and regional musi-
cians with artists in the exhibition for an enhanced concert experience and conversation.
Following this first exhibition, the museum celebrated the 14th anniversary of the Masks exhibition
and gala fundraiser. We are grateful to Eye Center of Northern Colorado and Kaiser Permanente
for their generous underwriting of the 2018 Masks fundraiser. With one of the most successful
years ever, Development Director De Dahlgren led a very committed and capable group of
volunteers and staff that raised $147,660 in revenue to support the mission of the museum and
its programming. The Roz Spencer Awardees (named after museum founder Roz Spencer) for
2018 were Dr. Bev Donnelley and Mr. Bill West. They were honored for their commitment to the
arts, Fort Collins, and the museum. We would also like to thank over two hundred artists for their
time and creativity in donating masks to the museum for the exhibition and auction as well as the
many individuals, businesses, sponsors and volunteers who make Masks the celebratory and
creative community event it has become in raising over 1.5 million dollars for the museum over
the past fourteen years.
Other exhibitions for 2018 included the very popular Awkward Family Photos, the paintings of
Fort Collins based Haley Hasler and the traveling exhibition Pigskin Peanuts from the Charles M.
Schulz Museum and Research Center in Santa Rosa, CA. MoA also inaugurated a rotating series
of After-School art classes, teen nights for each exhibition as well as various adult and kid
themed workshops.
We hope you will continue to join MoA as we chart a new future with world-class exhibitions and
exciting education programming for all ages. It is our mission to spread the power of visual art.
We so thank you for your support.

Visitors to the Museum of Art | Fort Collins in the Museum of Art Building at 201 South College noticed unprecedented signage in the entry area formerly known as the Lobby Gallery. The space has been dedicated to the memory of Lynnette C. Jung-Springberg through a generous gift to the museum by her husband, Dr. Peter D. Springberg.
Lynnette was born in Billings, Montana on August 7, 1940, the daughter of Lucille and Joseph Jung. She spent her youth in Glasgow, Montana and graduated from Saint Catherine College (now University) in Saint Paul, Minnesota, then received her Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from the University of Utah.
Her work life was as dynamic as her personality. After several social work jobs in Colorado and California, she entered Active Duty Service as a Captain in the Air Force in 1975 working in Malcolm Grow Medical Center at Andrews AF Base, Maryland. She retired from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1996, having served in Osan AFB, Korea, Clark AFB, in the Philippines, Wilford Hall Medical Center (Lackland AFB, TX) where she was Chair of the first Department of Social Work in the Air Force from 1985 to 1998.
While at Wilford Hall she taught group therapy techniques to new psychiatry residents and supervised a group of twenty-two staff clinical social workers and a number of social work enlisted technicians while restructuring the training of newly minted MSWs in mental health therapy, drug and alcohol therapy, child and spouse abuse therapy as well as traditional medical social work.
Dr. Peter Springberg also served in the United States Air Force, and in 1985 on a flight from Clark AFB in the Philippines to Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland AFB, San Antonio Texas, he sat next to an Air Force clinical social worker named Lynnette C. Jung. He subsequently returned to Milford Hall in 1987, and at the suggestion of the base commander, Peter invited Lynnette to an evening function. That evening resulted in their marriage in 1988 and a twenty-nine year relationship.
Dr. Springberg remembers his wife as a person always ready to step up as a volunteer. “Lynnette had a passion for helping others,” he said. “She used her professional skills and advanced training in group therapy as well as her innate compassion and tolerance to help others.” Also, Dr. Springberg added, reflecting on his wife’s life, “Lynnette enjoyed the lighter side of life and became a fashion model for the benefit various nonprofit organization’s fundraising efforts. “
She was a strong supporter of the arts, locally and regionally, especially the Museum of Art | Fort Collins and the Fort Collins Symphony. “I think Lynnette would be a little embarrassed, certainly humbled, to see her name ‘under the lights’ on the walls of the museum. Privately, though, I know she would be happy and pleased,” Dr. Springberg concluded. “It is my honor to recognize Lynnette’s legacy of service with this gift to the community of Fort Collins, the home city Lynnette chose and loved, and to the Museum of Art, a space where she indulged the joy she found in the human creative spirit.”
The Lynnette C. Jung-Springberg Gallery at the Museum of Art | Fort Collins was officially dedicated on April 15, 2018.
LYNNETTE C. JUNG-SPRINGBERG GALLERY NAMING
The B Sharp program, launched in 2015 with the Fort Collins Symphony, is part of a collaborative community effort to bring arts engagement opportunities to those living with dementia along with their caregivers. The program is designed to provide caregivers and their loved ones an opportunity to receive social support and benefit from live musical performances.
Under the leadership of Colorado State University sociology professor Dr. Jeni Cross, the on-going research study is measuring the impact of the B Sharp program on various quality-of-life measures. The study explores the impact of music and visual art on the cognitive ability of participants with dementia, and the social connections between the caregiver and person with dementia.
The B Sharp program at the Museum of Art involved 4 people with dementia and their primary caregiver in a creative, sensory, immersive visual arts experience that extends over the four weeks of the Masks exhibition.
The B Sharp study is funded by Kaiser Permanente, Banner Health, and Home State Bank. Kaiser Permanente is proud to work alongside several outstanding community organizations on the B Sharp Expansion Project including:– Alzheimer’s Association, Colorado Chapter– Banner Health– Colorado State University– Dementia Friendly Communities– Museum of Art | Fort Collins– Fort Collins Symphony– Home Instead– Larimer County Office on Aging– Seniors Helping Seniors
Thank you to Kaiser Permanente for your support of the B Sharp Program at MoA.

A TOUR? OF GARAGES? WHERE’S THE ART IN THAT?
Fine art. Music. Invention. Often the most inspiring, innovative work is done in garages. And some of the finest visual, musical and automotive treasures live in our own backyard — in garages throughout Fort Collins.
The Art of the Garage Tour was an exclusive one-day peek into a select group of garages - all open for touring on October 20, 2018 from 10-4pm. The Tour as well as the After-the-Tour Party (4-6pm) is a fundraising event benefiting the Museum of Art | Fort Collins. Funds were raised through sponsorships, grants and ticket sales.
The eight garages on the tour are ones where owners have shifted gears to create a primo collectibles spaces or a creative art studio. They might have mastered the man cave. Revamped the she shed. Tuned up the garage band room. Or, orchestrated the storage magnum opus. Garages large, small and in between are included.
As a benefit event for the Museum of Art | Fort Collins, the proceeds realized by The Art of the Garage Tour were used to support the museum’s mission, which is to spread the power of visual art.
