Homework Homework is a vital part of students’ development and independence and every piece of homework counts towards students’ final grade. Below are a few outstanding examples from year 11.

What is the best way to layout the composition of your page? this can add many marks to your final grade.

Fill the space and take into consideration the negative space, how will you create balance on the page. Consider taking an image across two pages to create movement.

Artist in residence workshop We were excited to welcome sculptor Darcy

Turner, who visited Chace to run a workshop for KS3 students. Students designed and created metal wire sculptures inspired by an animal of their choice. This was an exciting opportunity for students to work with a contemporary artist and create 3D work which will be displayed around the school.

The Art department had an exciting afternoon working with year 11 and year 13 photographers. We used liquid nitrogen to freeze and break flowers. The photographs will be part of the year 13 art exhibition. Well done to all involved!

Term 1 - Still Life Project At the start of the year KS3 students begin with a still life project. A display is set up in each classroom reflecting the theme. Students work from first hand, developing their observational skills which are fundamental to all that they will produce in art. Students work on a series of sustained studies exploring a variety of materials, this will lead on to a final painting which will be showcased in our upcoming KS3 exhibition taking place in December.

My favourite sculpture by the artist David Mach. David Mach is a Scottish artist who has been referred to as an “artist of excess” who uses unassuming , everyday objects such as magazines, match heads and even coat hangers to construct large-scale icons from pop culture, animals, and even religious figures. His latest works are a particularly vicious pair of cats, a cheetah and tiger constructed using his distinct method of layering hundreds of clipped wire coat hangers. What do you think?
