Definition;
1. The predominant decorative art style of the 1920s and 1930s,
characterized byprecise and boldly delineated geometric shapes and
strong colors, and used most
notably in household objects and in architecture
2. Art deco, or deco, is aneclectic artistic and design style
that began in Paris in the1920s and flourished internationally
throughout the 1930s and into the World War II
era.The style influenced all areas of design, including
architecture and interior
design,industrial design,fashion and jewelry, as well as
thevisual arts such as
painting,graphic arts and film.

What is Art Deco?
The Art Deco name refers to several variations of style in art,
design and architecture
popular in the era between the two world wars (1920-1940), and
for a number of years
before and after. In all its guises Art Deco reflects the
essence of popular twentieth century
design.
This movement was, in a sense, a broad umbrealla covering many
different artistic styles
and movements in the early 20th century such as Neoclassical,
Constructivism, Cubism,
Modernism, Bauhaus, Art Nouveau, and Futurism. Its popularity
peaked in Europe during
the so called "Roaring Twenties" and continued strongly in the
United States well in to the
1930s Although many design movements have had political or
philosophical influences, Art
Deco was purely decorative and considered as functional, modern
and elegant.
