Working from a barn in Kent, Postgate and Firmin produced some of the best-loved children’s television of the 1960s and 1970s, including Bagpuss, The Clangers, Ivor The Engine and Noggin The Nog. This book presents the Smallfilms archive - the puppets and cut-outs from these series, along with insights into how they were made. This book, published to accompany a solo exhibition of work by Jim Lambie at The Fruitmarket Gallery in Edinburgh, includes images and writing about the works in the exhibition. But its primary focus is The Poetry Club, founded by the artist in April 2012. Drawing on both its archive and its spirit, the book contains visual material from evenings at the club, and some of the stories, songs and poems performed there. Troubling Research - Performing knowledge In The Arts

In 2010/11, a group of Vienna-based art practitioners embarked on a journey of experimental research. This collection of ‘books’ of essays and conversations, is the outcome of this collaborative endeavor to render a ‘problematization’ by interrogating the conditions of the current upsurge of the art/research articulation.

Ken Okiishi’s artwork has explored the subject in between digital and continuous space, the changing nature of authorship, memory, and perception, and the indeterminacy of consciousness as it clashes with the strictures of technology. Engaging seminal works by figures including Woody Allen, Marcel Duchamp, Stephen Spielberg and Larry Clark.

Performing the Sentence brings into dialogue the ways that ‘performative thinking’ has developed in different national and institutional contexts, within different disciplines in the arts, and the conditions under which it has developed in experimental art schools. The Death Instinct - Jacques Mesrine

France’s Public Enemy Number One from the late 1960s to the end of the 1970s, Mesrine wrote ‘The Death Instinct’ while serving time in the high-security prison La Sante; the manuscript was smuggled out of the prison and was later published by Guy Debord’s publisher Gerard Lebovici.

Mentioned in his day in the same breath as Kafka, Mynona (aka Salomo Friedlaender, 1871-1946), was a perfectly functioning split personality: a serious philosopher by day (author of Friedrich Nietzsche: An Intellectual Biography and Kant for Children) and a literary absurdist by night who composed black humored tales.

Although hardly a word is spoken in her films, Lilli Kuschel’s images of urban environments, traffic structures and human constellations are precise and articulate. Her trained eye has an instant comprehension and tells stories even without words.

Creating a performative interplay with sculpture, translating this interplay into the medium of photography, as well as bridging classical antiquity and contemporary culture in an unorthodox manner are all key aspects of the series of works which von Gabain has produced for her show in the Secession.
