Power GridUpdates & News

Power Grid is off to an awe-some start! October 2010 was the debut of my second novel in the Slade Lockwood series and I could not have wished for a better beginning. I started the launch off with a signing at Black Dog Bar and Tables in Cedar Key, followed by book signings at the Books-A-Million in Gainesville and Ocala. Power Grid sold out in Gainesville and Ocala in a very short period of time. Since the first week, Power Grid has been gaining momentum. The story has cap-tured the imagination of a lot of readers and people are coming into stores asking for it.

I want to thank Tim Lowry at Ambassador International for his tireless effort in helping to make sure Power Grid had a suc-

cessful launch. Tim has made sure to help me with signings, media releases and has been a great listener when I bounce ideas off him. All authors should be so lucky to have a great pub-lisher like Tim.

Not to get lost in all this hype about Power Grid is The Oasis Project. I was very pleased to see it rejoin Dorrance’s Top Ten Bestseller list for October. The Oasis Project has been a top ten book for them for fourteen months. I am hoping Power Grid does the same thing at Ambas-sador. Many heartfelt thanks to Kathleen Haak at Dorrance for her continuing commitment to The Oasis Project.

I am already being asked about Mind Walkers, the third book in the Slade Lockwood series.

Mind Walkers is almost com-plete and portions of the novel have been sent to an editor. I am hoping to have the work complete before the end of the year. I would love to have it out this time next year.

I was asked the other day what was the most satisfying thing about having Power Grid finally in print. For me it is receiving the emails and reviews from people who have read the book and find it an enjoyable work and a great read. I love to pro-vide escapism in my work and I am happy readers are identi-fying with the continuing ex-ploits of Slade and company. Power Grid moves Slade into another arena and Mind Walk-ers continues to build upon this. Hopefully Slade will have many more adventures to share with his fans.

Many thanks to all of you who have read Power Grid and are making it a success. May God bless you.

Art

Calico GatorPaul Spivey, owner of Calico Ga-tor in Gainesville, Florida is one of those people. Paul owns a jew-elry shop and I met him years ago while working as a patrol officer. We have been friends ever since and he is one of the nicest people I have ever met. Paul is also one of the finest jewelers I have ever seen. His work is truly a work of art and the artistry that goes into his creations is nothing short of breathtaking. Paul makes his de-but in Power Grid and crafts a piece of jewelry for Slade – you will have to read the book to see what it is! Due to the popularity of Old Clacker, the testy pelican in the Slade Lockwood series, Paul made a pendent of the bird. Set in gold with a diamond chip for his eye, it is a captivating piece and I have not seen another like it. Check out the attached pic-ture – it makes a great gift. My girlfriend wears it all the time.

If you are ever in Gainesville, stop by and see Paul at Calico Gator and tell him Slade sent you. Ask to see the Old Clacker pendent and he’ll customize it just for you. By the way, Paul is back in Mind Walkers and, yes, he is helping Slade with another piece of jewelry.

Thank You! Black Dog Bar andTablesThe other two people I want to talk about are Jay and Connie Edge, owners of Black Dog Bar and Tables in Cedar Key. Jay and Connie asked me to do a book signing at their place back in February 2010. Like Paul Spivey, they are two of the nicest, down-to-earth people you could ever hope to meet. They exude a warmth and sincerity hard to match. Black Dog Bar and Ta-bles seemed the logical place to launch Power Grid and when I approached them, they readily agreed. The little pub on the pier has such a quaint appeal to it it has become Slade and company’s new hangout. Jay and Connie

have selected a cigar and drink for Slade: The Arturo Fuente Hemingway Series Short Story smoke and the wine is a Clos Du Val 2006 Cabernet Sauvi-gnon from Napa Valley. When you visit Cedar Key, a stop at Black Dog Bar and Tables is a must on the agenda. Tell them you want to try Slade’s favorite

wine and for those of you who enjoy a good cigar like I do, ask for his signature smoke.

Due to the ambience of Black Dog Bar and Tables, the bar and owners have a part in Mind Walkers. It is the perfect place for Slade and company to un-wind and ponder their next great adventure.

Local Businesses Can Help!

Behind every successful book are people helping with marketing and advertising and who sup-port the efforts of the author. There are two such groups that I want to share with you that

helped to make the launch of Power Grid a success.

Guest Author

First of all I would like to thank author, Art Adkins and his girlfriend, Carol Davis for giving me this opportunity to share my first book with you! Art and Carol are wonderful, sharing individuals!

“7 Keys To The Anointing” is a book for people who are tired of mundane Christian living. God is omnipresent, which means God is everywhere at the same time. Even though God is everywhere at all times, there are those times when God chooses to mani-fest or give visible, apparent evidence of His Presence at a certain place and time. That is what The Anointing is.

In this insightful book, I il-lustrate the keys to open

the doors to a vibrant walk with the Lord of Lords. You will learn how to allow The Anointing of God to flow to you to touch you, flow in you to change you and flow through you to touch and change our world. This book will transform your life for the better, bringing you into a more intimate relationship with God.

Art’s Tip of the Day

To be successful in the book industry today involves a lot of hard work, perseverance, and a tireless work ethic. Even with all these attributes, success will re-main elusive without a compre-hensive business plan. Directed effort is far more beneficial than random action. With the com-petitive nature of the book world today, it is imperative the author have a course mapped out for the future. It is not enough to hold book signings or do a periodic interview. A carefully orches-trated game plan is essential to reach readers, acquire an agent or attract a publisher. Chance is not the way to proceed when marketing your work.

Create a business plan and chart a course for success. You will find your efforts are far more productive and rewarding
