Golden Acorn Will present up to 3 at the June General PTA meeting

The PTA Golden Acorn Award is presented each year to people who have given exemplary volunteer service to the children at Arrowhead Elementary and our PTA. It is a very special award and is given for continued and dedicated service. This award is an excellent way to honor PTA members for their outstanding contributions and to celebrate the difference they make in our Arrowhead community.

Honorary Life MembershipWill present one award at the June General PTA meeting

Legislative ReportWA State PTA Top 5 Legislative Priorities for 2014

Promote Education Reforms Phasing in system reforms (ESHB 2261) to address accountability, educator access to professional development,

teacher and principal evaluations, academic standards, and family and community involvement in schools.

Prioritize Education First Advocate for budget policies that prioritize education funding first by continuing the commitment to Basic Education

Finance Planning (ESHB 2261) Increased funding for education should not come at the expense of other child related programs.

Close the Achievement and Opportunity Gap Eliminate the achievement gap and develop equal access to opportunity for all Washington Students. These reforms

must include provisions for the advancement of all learners including ELL, highly capable, and special education students.

Increase Basic Education Funding Complete the commitment to funding basic education and to put Washington State pupils in the top 10 for state

funding in the US. Funding options should provide a stable base of equitable funding and access to resources in both urban and rural communities.

Improve Access to Highly Effective Teachers Support programs to attract quality candidates into the field of teaching by developing mentoring opportunities,

strengthen incentives for teachers to achieve National Board Certification, increase ongoing educator professional development, and align teacher education programs to evidence-based instructional practice.
