Arnold P. Gold, M.D., is Chairman Emeritus of the Board and co-founder of The Arnold P. Gold Foundation, with his wife, Sandra O. Gold, President. The Foundation’s mission is to preserve the tradition of the caring physician and advance humanism in medicine. Through innovative programs, the Foundation promotes medical care that is as humanistic in its delivery as it is sophisticated in its technology to improve healing and healthcare outcomes for patients. Today, students, residents, and faculty at 95% of the schools of medicine in the U.S. as well as all of the schools in Israel, participate in at least one of the Foundation’s diverse programs. Dr. Arnold Gold is Professor of Clinical Neurology and Clinical Pediatrics at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University, where he has been associated for more than 50 years. An author of more than 80 published articles and several books in the field of pediatric neurology, Dr. Gold is the recipient of many special awards, lectureships and professorships, including the National Brennerman Award in Pediatrics. He serves on several professional advisory boards and was Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board of the Myoclonus Research Foundation. He has been recognized as one of the “Best Doctors in America” by American Health Magazine; he received a similar designation for New York in New York Magazine, for the New York Metropolitan Area in the Castle Connolly Medical Ltd.’s and for the Northeast United States in Town and Country. He has been a visiting professor at many hospitals and schools throughout the world including in Canada and Israel as well as in Africa and Europe. Dr. Gold received the “Practitioner of the Year” award in 1992 and the “Distinguished Service Award” at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1999. From 1999 to 2004, Dr. Gold served as a member of the Board of Trustees for the American Medical Association Foundation. In 2000, he became the AMA Foundation’s Secretary. The new Dr. Arnold P. Gold Child Neurology Center at the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia University Medical Center, was dedicated and opened in 2003. In 2005, Dr. Gold received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Child Neurology Society. The Mount Sinai School of Medicine conferred an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degree upon him in 2008. In 2010, Dr. Gold received the Picker Award for Excellence ® in the Advancement of Patient-Centered Care. Previously he received with his wife, Sandra Gold, Honorary doctorates from Sacred Heart University in 2003 and UMDNJ in 2002. Dr. Gold, a member of the Maimonides Society of the Federation of Northern New Jersey, resides in Englewood, NJ, and is the parent of five children and grandparent of thirteen.
