The Army Institute of Law (AIL) is a private unaided institute which was established in July 1999 by the

Indian Army under the aegis of the Army Welfare Education Society (AWES) at its interim location at

Patiala. The Institute is permanently affiliated to The Punjabi University, Patiala and approved by the Bar

Council of India. In July 2003, the Institute shifted to its current location at Sector 68, Mohali, Punjab. On

01 December, 2003, the Mohali Campus was inaugurated by H.E. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the then President

of India. AIL has a magnificent residential campus in an impressive architectural structure in the vicinity of

Chandigarh and Punjab & Haryana High Court. It conducts a five year BA LLB and a one year LLM course.

AIL has emerged as a hub of scholastic brilliance and owes this to a team of highly qualified and erudite

faculty members who lend a critical perspective to contemporary issues facilitating students'

comprehension and interpretation of various laws and statutes. With 'Aspire & Achieve' as its motto, the

Institute has grown as a Centre of Excellence in the field of legal education. Army Institute of Law

continues to pace ahead on the growth trajectory in consonance with the highest standards in the field of

education. This is amplified in its aims and objectives, pedagogical practices, infrastructure and other

features, that facilitate learning. The Institute plans to increase the number of seats and also start with

B Com LLB (Five Year) Course for the forthcoming session subject to the approval by the University.

MESSAGE FROM PLACEMENT OFFICER

I, extend a warm welcome to the prospective recruiter of AIL for the upcoming campus placements 2021-22.

With a legacy that spans over a period of more than two decades, AIL is a deep rooted institution that has proven

its academic excellence in the legal field. AIL ensures to bridge the gap between the theory and practical

application of concepts through a learning process which is simulative, participative and multidisciplinary.

I take pride in stating that AIL is the Alma Mater of various reputed personalities who are now placed in top

ranking law firms, corporate houses of India. Out students with their strong foundation of conceptual

understanding of legal principles and with diverse practical exposure through internships in different realms,

have always proven to be valuable asset in whatever capacity they have been recruited in the past.

The Batch of 2022 is a rather special set of graduating students, while the batch has proven its strength

academically, the students of this batch have gone a step ahead in forming a niche in co-curricular and

extracurricular during these challenging times. It is my sincere expectation that this batch will set benchmarks in

I have had the opportunity to teach Criminal Law to the outgoing batch of 2022 for two

semesters. A group of tight knit students who had a particularly affable and courteous demeanour.

Part of my classes were dedicated to open discussions on legal and other topics whereby this batch was

always willing for a fervent exchange of viewpoints. Though each batch is rather dear to every teacher,

this particular one would stay in my mind for a long time. I wish them the very best for their future. The

only advice which I give them is to patiently carry on working towards achieving their dreams…

“Focus only on your goal… and the path will inevitably appear”.

With immense pleasure I introduce to you, the exemplary Batch of 2022 whom I taught Taxation Law

and Environment Law. The students of this batch have a clear sense of purpose which is reflected in

their overall performance in the past five years, both in academics and in co-curricular activities like

prestigious moot court competitions both at national and international level; cultural and literary

events. The batch of 2022 has displayed diligence and intellectual maturity and they are resilient in

their spirit. I believe that the series of internships the students of this batch have gone through both

in pre-pandemic and in the on-going pandemic times have helped them to gain practical experience

and they are ready to face the challenges of the competitive professional world both nationally and

globally. I wish the graduating students the very best in all their future endeavours.

The batch of 2022 is a vibrant batch with students who are filled with the zeal to excel. It has been a

pleasure teaching this batch. The students are courteous, alert, conscientious and intelligent. They will

fare well in whichever field of work they venture into.

The batch of 2022 have such wonderful, amazing and versatile students who gave their best to

everything in the field of academics and extracurricular activities. Their keenness to learn, explore and

tread the untrodden path with a focused mind sets them apart from the rest. They always actively

Diligent, Dedicated and Dynamic are the epithets that I associate with the batch of 2022. My

association with this batch of vivacious budding lawyers is reminiscent of a plethora of activities-

academic, sports and cultural that we have beautifully collaborated in. The humongous success in all

these activities, chiefly has been because of the unflinching support and concerted efforts of the

students from this batch. As the Coordinator of Abhayam- AIL Centre for Gender Empowerment, I

take this opportunity to credit students from this Batch, who have been working relentlessly to elevate

it to such a level that today it is one of the most prestigious Centres across the world. I am sure these

students will prove themselves to be assets for any organization that they join. My best wishes are with

them!

It gives me an immense pleasure to write few lines about the batch of 2022, I would say that it is one of

the most diligent, attentive and interactive group of students that I have taught. Talking about their

performance in class- each one of them has put in sincere effort in writing papers, projects and making

presentations, I really appreciate the hard work done. I was delighted to have taught these smart,

bright, energetic and conscientious students. I see great potential in this batch and I wish them success

and luck in all their future endeavours.

The batch of 2022 landed at AIL with ‘Dreams Unlimited’ in their eyes. Having taught them for the

first two years, I could see them blooming into energetic and inquisitive minds who were engrossed in

an unending quest to know and learn more. I believe that their diligence, dedication and determination

It was a wonderful experience to teach the batch of 2022. I have taught them five subjects. This batch

of 80 students would be an asset to any organization. All the students are enthusiastic and always

activities. Talking about academics, it’s a tough competition in the batch. They all are hardworking,

Checkmate - AIL National Moot Court Competition

thThe 10 edition of Annual National Moot Court stCompetition- Checkmate organised on 30-31 October,

2020. This year the competition was conducted via virtual mode. This competition saw participation of around 36 teams from reputed colleges and National Law Universities from across the nation. The rounds were adjudged by leading advocates and academicians.

stThe final round was held on 31 Oct 2020 and judged by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Suvir Sehgal, Judge, Punjab & Haryana High Court, Mr. V K Gupta, Former District & Sessions Judge, HPCS-J and Dr. K P Singh, Former DGP Haryana.

nd2 Surana and Surana and Army Institute of Law Family Law National Moot Court Competition

ndThe Army Institute of Law, Mohali, organized the 2 Surana and Surana and Army Institute of Law, Family Law National

th thMoot Court Competition, held from 8 -10 April 2021. This year’s edition saw the participation of around 37 teams from various law colleges and National Law Universities from across the nation. Due to the exceptional circumstances of Covid -19 the preliminary rounds were judged on the basis of videos of the teams that they made and sent for competition. All the remaining rounds were virtual and for the semifinal and the final the judges kindly consented to come offline and judge the competition. The judges for the final round were Justice Rajiv Narayan Raina (Former Judge Punjab & Haryana High Court), Mr. Anil Malhotra and Dr. Deepak Jindal (Advocate Punjab & Haryana High Court). Awards amounting to 50k were distributed among the winners.

Virtuoso- Online Intra Institute Quiz Competition AIL conducted Virtuoso 2021 Virtual Intra Institute Quiz

th thCompetition from 17 to 18 March, 2021. Eight out of twenty one teams qualified for semifinal round. The Finals consisted of 4 rounds and after a head-to-head competitive round, the winner was declared. The competition was a huge success under the guidance and constant support of the Principal, faculty members, and the Intra Institute Quiz Coordinator and the Quiz Master for the competition, Ms. Ekjyot Kaur Gujral.

The AIL Weekend Webinar Series was an initiative taken by the Placement Cell of Army Institute of Law under the aegis of the Placement Officer, Mrs. Pooja Nayyar, along with the entire Placement Cell team. These series were conducted keeping in mind the need to facilitate interaction and develop a network among the current students of AIL and our esteemed Alumni. However, due to Covid the entire series was conducted in online mode. The main objective of these sessions was to enable the students to understand and learn from the practical experiences, including the challenges faced by their Alumni. The sessions were proposed to be conducted on the weekends given the professional commitment of the Alumni. The sessions had Alumni joining from the first batch of AIL to very recent ones.

ALUMNI CONNECT

The weekend webinar series made its debut in the second week of January 2021. Alumni who formed part of these series were the topmost litigation lawyers, most sort after entrepreneurs, corporate stalwarts,ex-Army officers and top performers in company sector etc. These sessions were conducted in a panel interview format in which questions prepared beforehand for every panellist were put forth to the panellists by the moderator followed by the Q&A session open to the audience. The sessions witnessed huge participation and enthusiasm from the students as well as the Alumni which made the entire initiative a success. A step further would be conducting these sessions in the college campus once the situation permits. Till then see you all there in the webinars!

The AIL Placement Cell took the initiative of organizing exclusive sessions for the first years and fifth years with some of the esteemed

alumni of the college.

The first session was held for the first years with Mr. Adhiraj Bhandari on 10th March 2021 on the topic of internships. It was

conducted in a pursuit to make them understand about the different kind of internships and how to bag them. He talked about

various topics including what kind of internships should be undertaken in the first year and the importance of research papers and

other co-curricular activities for the CV.

Another versatile and interesting session held was with Maj Pranav Prashar (Retd.) He talked about his experiences having lived both

the army as well as the corporate life. He gave insights into the difference between the military and the corporate world, how to

prepare for the exams and how to navigate the army life.

The last session was held for the graduating batch of 2021 with Mr. Manik Gupta . His session encompassed of telling the students

about his working experiences in the corporate, banking, finance and e-commerce domains. He explained about the varied working

atmospheres in these fields and how they can get to work for such diverse fields as law students.

HDFC ERGO has been a frequent on-campus recruiter at Army Institute of Law, since 2013. Being one of

the first to be hired by HDFC ERGO from AIL, I am still associated with them as of today (May 2021).

Students that were hired from the campus have gone on to work within a vast network of Pan India Legal

Teams at central as well as regional levels. AIL has offered a wonderful diversity of students that are

unmatched everywhere. The uniqueness of a close-knit, collegial fraternity of learners has brought together

many exceptionally talented students from multiple backgrounds, interests, approaches, perspectives and

methodologies. These advantages have extended way beyond law school, resulting in a practice-ready skill

set that the employers demand out of professionals. Students from AIL at HDFC ERGO have ever since

been working in a fast-paced, highly competitive environment, where they have to multitask most of the

The Batch of 2022, with its zeal and vigour, is all set to prove its mettle to the world. With their repertoire of
