ARMY DAY PARADE In Delhi the Army day commenced, with the three Service Chiefs paying tribute to the martyrs at the “Amar Jawan Jyoti” at India Gate. The COAS General Dalbir Singh, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC reviewed the Army day parade which included marching contingents, military bands and military equipment. This year there were eight mechanised and nine marching contingents and for the first time, a women officer contingent took part in the Parade showcasing ‘Nari Shakti’. Fifteen Sena Medals of Gallantry ( including four posthumous) and fourteen COAS Unit Citations were also awarded on the Army Day by the COAS. ARMY DAY PARADEIn Delhi the Army day commenced, with the

three Service Chiefs paying tribute to the martyrs

at the “Amar Jawan Jyoti” at India Gate. The COAS

General Dalbir Singh, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM,

ADC reviewed the Army day parade which included

marching contingents, military bands and military

equipment. This year there were eight mechanised

and nine marching contingents and for the first time,

a women officer contingent took part in the Parade

showcasing ‘Nari Shakti’. Fifteen Sena Medals of

Gallantry ( including four posthumous) and fourteen

COAS Unit Citations were also awarded on the

Army Day by the COAS.

The GRENADIERS marching Contingent was adjudged as the Best marching Contingent in Army Day Parade 2015.

young Army personnel for innovation in the field.

Lauding the young innovators, PM tweeted the

GLIMPSES OF REPUBLIC DAY PARADEIndia celebrated its 66th Republic Day on

26th of January 2015, with President Barack

Obama as the chief guest, a first for an

American President. This year the theme

was women empowerment and as a special

feature an all women contingent from all the

three services the Indian Army, the Indian

Navy and the Indian Air Force marched on the

Rajpath.

Major Mukund Varadarajan of 44th

Battalion of Rashtriya Rifles led an anti-

terrorist search operation in Shopian

district of J&K where he killed three

terrorists of the Hizbul Mujahideen.

However, he was gravely injured during

the assault and later succumbed to his

injuries. He was awarded the Ashok

Chakra(posthumous). His wife Indhu

Mukund received the AC from President

Pranab Mukherjee on the occasion of

Republic day.

A contingent of women officers of the Indian Army

took part for the first time in the Republic day

Parade 2015 to showcase women empowerment

and Nari Shakti. The Army contingent was led

by Capt Divya Ajith, who was commissioned in

2010 and had earlier created history by becoming

the first woman in the Indian Army to receive the

coveted Sword of Honour, which is awarded to

the best cadet of a passing out course.

Naik Neeraj Kumar of 57th battalion

of Rashtriya Rifles(13 Rajputana Rifles)

laid down his life during a search and

destroy operation battling groups of

militants in Kupwara district of J&K. The

operation resulted in elimination of four

hard core foreign terrorists and recovery

of war like stores and was awarded

the Ashok Chakra(posthumous). His

wife Parmeshwari Devi received it from

President on the occasion of Republic

day.

Mantri chaired the 48th Central Advisory

Committee (CAC) meeting of the National

Cadet Corps on 03 Dec in New Delhi. The

meeting was attended by Gen Dalbir Singh,

Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Air Staff (CAS),

Vice Chief of Naval Staff, Secy Youth Affairs,

eminent educationists and DG NCC Lt Gen

Aniruddha Chakravarty. While complimenting

the NCC for the performance of its cadets in

various spheres be it training, adventure, social

service or community development the RRM

opined that the NCC cadets are ‘The Leaders of Tomorrow’ and the key instruments of social change

and economic growth.

Doctors of Comd Hospital, Western Comd,

carried out its first ever successful multi-organ

transplant harvest on 26 Nov. The next of kin

of Naik Narender Singh, a serving DSC soldier

who was declared brain dead at ICU, CH

(WC) donated his organs as a noble gesture.

The liver, kidneys and cornea were harvested

through a marathon surgery and were flown

the same evening by a special Air Force

aircraft to Army Hospital R & R, New Delhi to

give a new lease of life to others in need.

Christmas Celebrations at PRERNA

At Home with Lady Offrs & Veer Naris

As a prelude to Christmas Day Celebrations, Mrs Namita

Suhag, President AWWA visited PRERNA Centre at Army

Hosp (R&R) Delhi Cantt on 23 Dec. PRERNA, being run

under the aegis of AWWA, is a group of volunteers providing

emotional and social support to cancer patients and their

families. PRERNA believes in empowering cancer patients to

face the world with the same spirit and joyful demeanor as

of a healthy individual. While celebrating the Xmas Day with

children, President AWWA asked the mothers to take care of

their health. She also lauded the efforts of the hospital staff

and the selfless service of the volunteers.

to welfare of the widows and children, placement of

assistance to daughters of widows and marital discord

cases were discussed during the conference. While

laying stress on child labour and security aspects

for women, the President AWWA complimented the

voluntary work of Army wives especially that of Regional

AWWA Northern Command and Western Command in their role during the flood relief in J& K.

1) Wards of serving Army personnel with minimum 10

years continuous service in the Army.

2) Wards of ex Army personnel granted/ awarded

regular pension, liberalized family pension, family

pension or disability pension at the time of their

superannuation, demise, discharge, release

medical board/ invalided medical board. This

includes wards of recruits medically boarded out

and granted disability pension.

3) Wards of ex Army personnel who have taken

discharge/release after ten years of service.

4) Adopted /Step Children and Children of

Remarried Widows. (i) Adopted Child of Army

personnel who completed 10 years service,

admission. (ii) Step Children are eligible provided

they are born out of a wedding where at least

one parent belonged to the Army and completed

10 years service. iii) Children of Widows of Army

personnel who are born as a result of second

marriage with Army personnel. However, children

of widows of Army personnel born out of remarriage

with Non-Army personnel would not be eligible for

admission.

presently serving with Indian Navy or Indian Air

Force who have served with the Army for 10 years.

are in receipt of pension from the Army. (ii)Children

of only those TA personnel who have completed 10

years of embodied service.
