I have a complicated but workable timetable in place and we are truly seeing more classes than ever before. One notable thing to speak about is our seminar program. We have undertaken the ambitious task of holding a seminar just about every week of the school term! This has only been possible because of the assistance of a number of clergy and volunteers who have committed to participating, and who are doing a fantastic job. This will continue into the coming term alongside the visiting presentations we have lined up. I could still do with a few more people to help out so if you’d be interested please call me (Les) on 0428111985. Also, this past term I had the opportunity to attend my very first Duval excursion. I accompanied year 7 to the Warrumbungle National Park and camped for 3 nights. It was fantastic to have the opportunity to serve the students, encourage them during about 24kms of bush walks and spend time with other teachers. I am very thankful to God for his constant provision of soft hearts, opportunities and encouraging people to work with. Beginning of 2015. Term 22015 Newsletter

In a year where the goal is to consolidate everything we have been working toward over the past few years, 2015 has started very well. I have a complicated but workable timetable in place and we are truly seeing more classes than ever before. One notable thing to speak about is our seminar program. Dinner wrap upOur annual dinner, held on the 28th of March, could best be described as a generous celebration by the Christian community of Armidale of the work that AYF does in our town. The night had a very relaxed atmosphere as people caught up over an enjoyable meal. There was much to celebrate as Les shared about things happening locally, and Angelo Cavaliere, Western NSW SRE Adviser from Generate ministries shared about things happening in the region and the state. The fundraising efforts were very good also! While there wasn’t too many goods or services to buy, people both in attendance and people unable to come were very generous in making donations and buying up what was on offer. The auction had a very unique and valuable collection of artwork, kindly donated to AYF, which all sold prior to or on the night. All together the dinner raised at least $12,000 for the ongoing work of AYF.

Seminars on the horizonIn this second school term of 2015, two fantastic traveling ministry groups, Focus on the Family and Covenant Players will be partnering with us in delivering seminars to years 9 and 10. Focus on the Family will be represented by their CEO Brett Ryan and will speak to students about issues to do with drugs. If you have been tuned in to local media of late you will know of the significant drug issues among youth, so we’re very pleased to have someone of the calibre that comes with Focus on the Family and their ability to mix Christian world views with contemporary issues that face families. Focus on the Family’s impact seminars are designed to inspire, challenge and create confidence in young people and their parents. You can find more about them at www.families.org.au Covenant Players have been recommended to us by a number of the local churches who have had them visit in the past. Covenant Players exist to communicate the Lord Jesus Christ through the medium of drama. You can find more about them here www.covenantplayers.org/ and you can see them in action at Armidale Christian Outreach Centre on May 24th in their morning service.

Management Committee- great need.During 2014 the form and hours of SRE in the high schools finally came to a resolution. The emphasis of work now for the management committee is around support and oversight of Les and financial management. Due to changing circumstances of a number of the committee members we have had a number of resignations and are currently down to 5 men and 1 woman. We are therefore particularly searching for any other women who have a heart for this type of ministry to join the committee. Around the AYF committee we’ve been blessed with the provision of people able and willing to lend the time, energy and expertise in running the major events of the year. Through their ongoing support this year we will again run our major fundraisers, our dinner on March 28th and our garage sale in September. If you think you can serve on the Management Committee or help at one of our major fundraising events, please contact AYF President Rob Dewhurst on 6775-1727.
