PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
I was very proud to accompany our new captains, Alexis and Archie, as they represented our school at the 2021 National Servicemen’s Commemoration service this past Sunday. In addition to our captains laying a wreath on behalf of our school students and staff, Archie read the National Servicemen’s Ode. The organisers of this annual event are keen to involve young people into the future. Student leaders
Our new Sports Captains, Arts & Culture Captains, House Captains and Semester 1 Student Council representatives were presented with their badges at yesterday’s whole school assembly. Our student leaders have started the school year on a positive note. We are hopeful that they
will be involved in a range of activities in 2021.
Change of COVID-19 check in
To reduce the amount of paperwork required when visiting schools, the COVID-19 acknowledgement process has been consolidated into two steps:
Step 1 – sign in and out with the school sign-on sheet Step 2 – check in using the Service NSW COVID Safe Check-in QR code. If you do not have this app on your phone, please let the office staff know and they can check you in on a web form (name and phone number required)
Visitors must do both steps each time they visit to ensure their safety and the safety of others while on school sites.
COVID Safe requirements - District Swimming Carnival February 18th 2021
In order to comply with NSW Health regulations, we need to meet the capacity limits for the District Swimming Carnival. Armidale District PSSA is allowing ONE (1) spectator per competitor into the Monckton Aquatic Centre. Spectators will need to sign into the Monckton Aquatic Centre using the Service NSW QR code provided at the facility. This will need to be shown to the COVID Marshall upon entering the facility. Social distance measures will need to be complied with once you have entered the venue and spectators will need to stay within a designated location at the facility. All competitors and accompanying staff will be assigned to another area. Spectators will not be allowed in this area. It is your personal responsibility to follow these guidelines so that requirements of the Monckton Aquatic Centre COVID Safe plan are met. You are thanked in advance for your understanding and cooperation in this matter to ensure that at least one spectator per competitor can be present at the carnival. Please be aware that the carnival will go ahead regardless of the weather, so please ensure all children attending have warm dry clothes. We wish our student competitors all the best in representing Armidale City Public School at these swimming trials. Our thanks also go to Mrs Kelly for the dedication she has shown over many years in organising this event for schools in the Armidale area. Our thanks go to the many parents and carers who have assisted in organising to have students undertake COVID-19 testing when asked this term. It is through working together as a community that we can ensure that our school stays open and we limit the chance that we return to remote learning. Take care,
Ms Deborah Nay Principal

NEWS FROM 1B All of the students of 1B have quickly settled into their new classroom routines and have enjoyed reacquainting themselves with old friends and getting to know new ones. It has been a pleasure to get to know such an enthusiastic and hardworking group of students over the past two weeks. In 1B, we are looking forward to our learning journey together and a busy term ahead as we begin to explore our various units of work. In mathematics we have been revising what we know about number and have begun to incorporate ‘Number Talks’ into our lesson warm-ups. In our English unit, we have been reading ‘Journey of the Sea Turtle’ by Mark Wilson and have started to learn about some of the many dangers that the loggerhead turtle faces throughout its life. While in geography, we are investigating the concept of why it is important to know about the weather and that knowing about the weather can help us with our daily lives. All students have shown great enthusiasm and enjoyment while participating in physical activity during sport on Wednesdays and Fundamental Movement Skills on Friday mornings.
