Mix 10 tablespoonfulsstrong vinegar with :Ii cup-ful warm water and 73cupful flour. This equalsone cup sour milk. a half teaspoonful of saltAdd quarter of a cup ofmolasses, one cup pump-kin juice, one cup of sourmilk and a half teaspoon-ful of Arm & HammerSoda dissolved in two,tablespoonfuls of milk.Beat the batter thorough-ly, turn into a two-quartbrown bread tin and steamfor four hours. When thisis intended for Sundaymornings with baked beansit should be made onSaturday, then resteamedin the 'morning. Thismakes excellent toast.

BOSTONBROWN BREAD

Sift together two cupsof Indian Meal, two cupsGraham flour, one-half cupcoarse rye flour, one cupwheat flour, two teaspoon-fuls salt. Take one cupmolasses and two cupsbuttermilk, one and a halfcups water, in which dis-solve three rounded tea-spoonfuls of Arm & Ham-mer Soda. Mix all into asoft dough (a little morewater may have to be add-

ed). Pour into BrownBread molds with cov-ers, which must be wellgreased. Bake in a deeppan into which has beenpoured hot water aboutone inch deep. Watershould be all evaporatedafter two hours, then bakeabout a half hour longer,according to size of loaves.[f you can bake in a closedsteamer, the loaves will bemoist and the crust moretender. Small lard pailswith covers make goodmolds in which to steamBrown Bread.
