Essential Functions and Responsibilities 1. Provides basic computer trouble shooting and maintenance. 2. Provides basic “how to” training for new computer user on how to use a computer and how to use word processing programs. 3. Helps patrons with basic functions such as printing, saving documents to a flash drive, etc 4. Refers patrons to library staff when appropriate Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of internet and Microsoft Office Suite 2003 as well as Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, and basic computer functions Patience and the desire to help others Bilingual skills a plus, but not required. Excellent communication skills.

Work Environment  This job is based at the Appomattox Regional Library, requiring work in the City of Hopewell or at county branch locations.  

Requires some mobility and manual dexterity.  Education, Experience, and Training No previous experience is required.Comfort working with the public and a willingness to help others desired.

Provides basic computer trouble shooting and maintenance. For example: Refills printers with paper as necessary. Directs patrons to front desk to put funds in their account for printing. Helps patrons resolve mechanical printing issues. Helps patrons reboot computers as necessary.

     Provides basic “how to” training for new computer user on how to use a computer and how to use word processing programs.

For example: Helps new computer user learn how to log on to public access computers and explains how to lock the computer for a break, and how to save information between sessions. Assists patrons with basic questions regarding computer programs with which the volunteer is familiar. Refers patrons to reference librarian for questions beyond the volunteer’s knowledge.

 Helps patrons with basic functions such as printing, saving documents to a flash drive, etc.For example: Helps patrons print documents from Microsoft Office and the web. Assists with saving documents to a flash drive, and other basic functions as needed.
