Message From the Principal Dear all, Today is the last day of term and you will be on holiday for over two weeks. Many of you have been working hard on assessments throughout the last two weeks and Year 11, 12 and 13 will continue to work over the holidays in preparation for their examinations. During the break staff yet again show their commitment to you all by giving up their holiday time to come in and teach their examination groups. I would urge any student at APA who is benefiting from this to remember to say thank you at the end of the session as I know that feeling valued and appreciated would make all the difference to staff. Have a great holiday and be safe. Congratulations to the following pupils for achieving 100% attendance so far this academic year:

Brandon Pope, Lenie Marie Loverez, Richa Jirel, Judith Golightly, Jewell Dje, Shania Coyle, and Mohammad Awais.

Well done to Alan Kawa and Ethan Bernard for taking part in the Spelling Bee competition, organised by Ms Hollis.

Well done to Shaecaden Clarke for coming 1st in the Year 7’s boys competition, in the Sports Relief mile and to Elizabeth Rowe for coming 1st place in the Year 8 girls competition as well as Teon Pidade for coming 3rd in the Year 8 boys competition.

We have ended the term in 2nd place with 135 points so we really need to win the next house competition so that we can be back at the top…where we look best!!!

The theme this week was Protests and the following quotes will inspire you:

There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest. Elie Wiesel

To sin by silence when they should protest makes cowards of men. Ella Wheeler Wilcox

It’s funny how social activists usually protest against the only things that have a credible chance of achieving the activists’ goals. Craig Bruce

I try to make all my songs good. I don’t ever write one to finish one. A lot of protest songs end up that way, driven by some kind of emotional response. Conor Oberst

People might not protest for overtly political or social causes, but when they can’t feed themselves and their family, they will take to the streets. Marcus Samuelsson

I hope you have a good rest over the Easter holidays and come back feeling refreshed and ready to face the challenges ahead!

Year 11……..REVISE!!!!!!!

As I said last week, we have had the highest attendance as a House since September, with 95.98%, so congratulations to all of you for this as well, and long may it continue!

I mentioned last week that two Turner students did very well in the Sport Relief mile. Now that I’ve received more of the results, here are all Turner students who came in the top 3 in their race, and congratulations again to all that took part:

- Year 7 Girls: Karen Raga-Velez, 3rd - Year 8 Girls: Lianna Marshall, 3rd- Year 9 Boys: Nassim Fouchane, 1st- Year 9 Girls: Sophie Hayler, 1st- Year 9 Girls: Shauna Coughlan, 3rd - 6th Form: Jordan Butcher-Campbell, 3rd

I have seen some real commitment and community spirit from a lot of you this term, and hope that not only does this continue, but it spreads across the entire House after your long deserved break.

Make sure you use your time wisely, taking some exercise and using your mind with some reading or revision, as well as having a deserved rest. I will expect to see you all refreshed and ready to go again after two weeks to continue our lead of 142 points in the House competition!

Hope you have a sublime two weeks!

Wandsworth London Youth Games Trial Dates 2014

London Youth Games

The London Youth Games is Europe’s largest youth sports event involving all 33 London Boroughs competing against each other in 30 sports. Participants represent the borough they live or go to school in a bid to become Champions of London. 2014 is the 37th year of the competition with Wandsworth winning the competition in 2013 for the first time in the events history.

Join Team Wandsworth in 2014

We are now building up towards the 2014 Games and want you to get involved through a series of free trials and training programmes. There are opportunities for young people who live or go to school in Wandsworth and are mainly for secondary aged children but the specific age category will vary from sport to sport.

The trials and training dates and the full list of sports with age categories can be found at www.wandsworth.gov.uk/lyg.

Please attend the trial sessions to get involved or contact the Sports Development Team on 0208 871 8390 or [email protected] for any more information.

On Tuesday we hosted the last of this terms Activate sessions for the Primary School students . The students completed the programme by taking part in a tennis session with Ms Patrick where she taught them some fun hand eye coordination games and how to do the forehand drive. In total 28 Heathmere and Sacred Heart students attended the programme and they gave us some really positive feedback. A number of the students said how much they enjoyed last week’s treasure hunt which was lead by Mr. Collins. A big thank you to all the APA staff and students that helped to make the primary school students feel welcome.
