Independent, dynamical, open-minded and passionate are some adjective I can use to describe myself.I am constantly seeking new experiences and willing to learn. I try to put passion and enthusiasm in everything I do. Through my education and my work experiences I developed a critical mind, questioning everything surrounds me. I like to be inspired by more experienced people and I’m open to different opinions. I also love to teach and share my knowledge. My passion for architecture is a consequence of my passion for arts in general. I love to spend my free time attending arts exhibitions and informing myself about new trends. I love painting, sculpture, photography, as well as graphics, video-art and graffiti.I love travelling. It is for me not only a hobby, but a life-style. I am fascinated by different cultures and by entering in a direct contact with the local realities, that’s why in the past years I spent several months living abroad.

DISSECTION vs INTEGRATIONRedevelopment of a Secondary School in Abbiategrasso | Milano | Italy2008 | Academic Work

08

ground floor plan

The site analysis, mainly residential, highlighted a lack of public recreational and accommodation facilities. The redevelopment and functional conversion of the Abbiategrasso secondary school aims to give a solution to the criticalities of the area, presenting itself as a meeting place both for residents and occasional users. The drastic grouth of people and traffic stream, related with the new events of the Milano 2015 International Exposition will, determinates the functional flexibility of the project.

At the ground floor, the building breaks down in three different parts, which work in an independent way, but that are still linked by the same function. The division is reflected at the superior floors, separating the building in two distinct elements. At the basement and ground floor, the building is characterized by a big presence of open and public spaces, studied in order to gain a total fruition – not limited to the direct users of the student housing. The reason is the lack of accommodation facilities in the nearby area.

MOVING FAÇADE

The building has a modular external structure in microperforated aluminum, supported by a frame of tubular uprights. This element works not only as a climate moderator, protecting the building by summer irradiation and rainfalls, but also as a shielding for the entirely glazed façade of the bedrooms, simulating the effect of watermark transparency. The second skin in microperforated aluminum is defined by a stripe that can be opened thanks to sliding elements in a metal frame. This determinates a constant changing in the façade appareance, depending on users’ needs.

The study of irradiation, for the autumnal and vernal equinox, determinates two decisions: the need of a second skin for the entirely glazed façade of the building and the insertion of solar panels for the flat roof.

CASCINA MERLATA SPECIAL HOUSINGA new Urban Compartment in the 2015 Expo Area | Milano | Italy2009 | Academic Work

The site, essential for the city’s development, is close to the outer pole of Milan’s Fair and next to the 2015 Expo area. The aim is to realize a new urban compartment which tries to experiment innovative s u s t a i n a b i l i t y principles, and develop a new polarization with a highly territorial depiction. The project wants to create synergic morphologies and infrastructures, connected with the existing urban context .

15

The project provides full range residences that satisfy the different users’ needs and that are supported a by a local and urban network link.

16 basement | ground | first floor plan

The building, defined by a pure shape, is composed by a solid and strongly materic volume that leans on a transparent ephemeral volume. This dualism declares the different functions of the spaces: shops, offices, services and public areas at the ground and first floors, residences at the upper floors. The green roof is accessible from the residences at the last floor and is characterized by horizontal brise soleil.

The elevation is characterized by a façade that presents solar blinds in corten steel and folding apertures. Those elements permit a high flexibility and gives movement to the façade.

A2A ENERGIA HEADQUARTERSTertiary Building in Piazza Trento | Milano | Italy2010 | Academic Work

ground floor plan

Being conscious of the context situation, the goal is to create a building that works as a connection between two totally different urban fabrics, both from the morphological and architectural quality point of view: the old city area and the Porta Romana railway station in renovation progress. The composition of three solid volumes arranged around an internal void creates an architecture defined by multiple overlooks. The volumes are structurally and functionally independent, and are linked by accessory elements that permit a visual and physical connection. The multiple overlooks are associated with a double access. The entirely glazed façade of the building is composed by fixed and movable panels that comes one after one other all along the elevation and characterized by profiles visible only from the interiors and that create externally a perfectly planar surface, signed by the fine texture of the glazed openings.

The panel system of the composite eco-sustainable skin in glass and metal is composed by a first layer of tempered glass followed by a microperforated grid of pressed copper whose function is the control of solar irradiation, a second layer of tempered glass with solar-thermal coating, an air chamber, and the last layer of tempered glass. The metallic layer, beside giving an aesthetic value, permits an important energy costs reduction, because of protection from solar radiation in summer and thermal insulation in winter.

GEOMETRIES OF LIVINGAchrout Chalet in Beit Mary Hills | Beirut | Lebanon2011 | in collaboration with Paralx Architects

29

Situated on the top of one of the highest hills surrounding Beirut, the chalet can benefit from a 180° view of the surrounding landscape, looking on the city and on the sea. The pure volume of the parallelepiped is shaped by cuts on the main façade and on the roof, in order to gain the maximum advantage from the view. The thin layer of the second skin, in grooved raw local stone, covers the concrete structure of the building, and is composed by sliding elements that work as sun blinds for the wide glazed surfaces. In this way, the look of the facades continuosly changhes.

31

The proposal, which is one of the twelve commissioned by the Architectural and Urban Forum (AUFO) of Milano, with support from the municipality, offers a conceptual solution for the densification of Milano, injecting 25,000 inhabitants into the existing urban fabric of the city, for a total population increase of 300,000 people.

32

33

34

As the population increases, the Italian regions responsible for the country’s food production will be met with increasing demands, yet, the amount of arable land will decrease. The strategy creates a self-sustaining community that seeks to integrate programmatically and physically with the existing city.Starting from the need to get a multi-functional settlement, well connected in each inner part and with the outside landscape, we studied a new city, placed along the railways and made by different urban layers, connected by a tight ways network.

Piacenza is located in the edge between Lombardia and Emilia Romagna, in the middle-north of Italy, tangent to the right side of Po river. Its territory is defined by a complex identity, where the urban and agriculture realities, equally predominant, cohabit in a difficult relationship. The city is located in a strategic position and represents a infrastructural hub, crossed by the railways, the A1 and A22 highways and the historyc roads via Emilia and via Francigena. Even so, the city is low developed, with a lack of services that could allow an economic and demographic growth.Piacenza’s urban fabric has always been tangent to the river, never connected or integrated.Morover, nowadays, the railways, located between the city and the river, draw a sharp separation line, bringing to the seclusion of the area included between them. The aims of the project is to return this area to the city, stepping over the border defined by the railways with a new thershold infrastructure that can reconnect the city to the area and then the river.

Meaningful architectural elements are recognized inside the old-established Piacenza’s urban fabric, and are connected by streets, paths and squares, characterized by a certain measure. This measure gradually widens from the roman block dimension to the latest urban fabric ones. The railway represents a limit that isolates the river Po from the city. The insertion of new attractive poles in the gap area between the railway and the river needs new both physical and visual connections. The urban fabric crosses the railway limit maintaining the same scale and the same measure. Reaching the Po, the mail gradually loose his rigidity, looking for significant views and… the gap area is also considered a whole, as well as the city, changing indeed its worthiness, not being defined by buildings, but green landscape, excavated and structured by new paths.40

Nearby the limit represented by the railway and the highway, the meeting between the urban fabric and the green system, equivalent and opposite, takes place: from one side a urban whole, from the other, a green whole both “excavated” by paths and open spaces (in between-pochè).The strategy consists in the crossing of this limit, not only through a simple connection, but inhabiting the in-between space, with a threshold device: what was at first a limit, now it’s threshold.

The urban block is gradually attacked and fragmented by the greensystem, which becomes itself inhabited space, hosting functions:1. The device is continuous and homogeneous: a sole volume along the interval;2. Nearby the old-established urban fabric, the device assumes thesame compact settlement of the blocks, and faces the green system ofthe four parks.

3. The two systems are no more distinguished, but they gradually mergein a unique one: the park worms in the urban blocks, letting them loose their original conformation.4. It occurs the complete crossbreeding of the two systems: urban and green, in a unique system.
