THE ARGUS Volume 71, Issue 2 Banquet Edition “S” Winners Declared! Throughout the summer at Camp Shohola, there are a few campers who shine above the rest. These men are recognized through an award called the “Shohola S”. To win this award, you must surpass regular camp standards set in the cabin, be a leader amongst other campers, and be the person who makes camp more enjoyable for everyone else. The “S” winners have been chosen for their optimistic view around camp, as well as for their kindness towards others. Not only must these campers stand out in a family of amazing campers and be recognized by their peers, but they must also catch the eye of their counselors. To win the “S”, a camper must receive an 80% staff vote agreeing that he should win. This honor is much cherished, and the recipients should be congratulated thoroughly. These campers are recognized as being the best of the best on camp, and are a true representation of the Camp Shohola spirit that we all truly look for in a friend and a camper. Green Team Speech Francisco Lorenzo, Working Senior
White Team Speech Nicholas Stallone, Working Senior
Hello everyone. First of all I want to say thanks to White for
being so competitive this year. Because of that, we were able to
learn from your spirit, effort, forgive- ness, but over all
friendship. You made this color war the most competitive, cheerful,
and most enjoyable I have had in my whole life. Thank you. Green
team, we had two options as a team: either win as a team or lose as
individuals.
Luckily we chose to get first and win as a team. It was not the
captain or the Co-Cap- tains who lead us to victory, it was every
single one of you. When I first got chosen to be on the Green Team,
I had no idea what was going on. I was a litle Cabin 2 kid that had
no idea how to speak English. But, I grew up and became much more
mature as the years went on. With my brother on White, I realized
that everyone here
Hello everybody. 2010... this was without a doubt the greatest and
most enjoyable year I ever had my entire six years at Shohola. This
was also the clos- est Green and White Color War I have ever
seen...Im referring to the points and spirit of course not distance
because... well you all saw the war canoe today. When I stepped out
of my car on my first day, I was greeted by somebody who instantly
brought up Green and White and told me I have the chance to become
a Captain... All I could think about was that my dream had come
true... yet my nightmare had just begun. Dont get me wrong; it was
an honor and a privilege to experi- ence, and a tremendous
responsi- bility. Yet almost nothing I envi- sioned for the White
Team went right; we had campers leave, we lost points, and we had a
lack of spirit. Despite this, we managed to try our hardest in all
of the events and always had a good time. I believe that everyone
on the White Team was able to learn
had two faces, the first one is full of rivalry and loyalty to you
team, but when you turn around the guy that was a few minutes ago
your rival is now your brother, with who you can have fun for the
rest of your life. Nick thanks for all your
support, and I have to admit, I have never seen another captain so
cheerful winning or even losing. I would like to say thanks to
Holly, Duncan, but especially every single camper and staff member
for an incredible sum- mer 2010. Thank YOU.
to play fair and have good sports- manship from these experiences.
I want to thank a few peo- ple out in the audience tonight; Nate
Storb and Aaron Insler:... please stand up because I could not of
done any of this without all of the help from you guys. I want to
applaud my co-captains because without the help of Inigo Martin and
Mauricio Niquete I would have fallen apart when I was handed a task
that looked way too hard. I knew that I always had the assistance
and encourage- ment of these two. Also, there were the First Month
captain- Glen Kasoff and his co-captains Ty Brooks and Henry
Hoffman. I would like to thank the entire White Team for
co-operating with me and making this a fun, enjoy- able, energetic
and exciting year as the White Team captain. Now Im going to thank
somebody that wasnt expected, thank you Green Team, I thank you for
being fair, kind, fun and good sports about everything that went
on. You never rubbed in our faces the fact
that we lost...too much. Lastly for the final thank you, I have to
obviously thank Duncan and Holly Barger for running Camp Shohola--
without this place I would be bored all summer, I never would of
met all of my friends and I would never of had the experiences that
Ive had for the past six summers of my life. I have a few mentions
to give out, please would Jus- tin Brown, Ty Casey, and Matt
Loughney please stand, along with of course Jay Sanchez, today
Justin may have fallen a few times on the rock wall but he never
gave up and despite our imminent defeat, rowed hard till the end.
Ty, you competed in over 8 events today. I have no clue but I think
thats some kind of record or something. Matt volunteered when I had
nobody to do it he wanted to go to the infirmary and learn
how
to splint a bandage as depicted by the red cross for the Apache
race, and finally- J.Man. This kid took time out of his schedule to
learn how to do Eskimo rolls and he practiced them until he was
able to do it almost perfectly, if I didnt mention your name in
this speech I apologize because the entire white team amazed me
over the course of this month and you all deserve a mention but for
the sake of time Ill say that your all the greatest group of kids
Ive ever met. I only have one last thing to say, congratulations to
the Green Team and their cap- tains... and Francisco TE AMO your
the only person I know who would help his opponents learn how to do
something that could cost him victory and I wouldnt of rather lost
to anybody but you. Youre one of my closest friends and my favorite
rival.
ARTS a n d CR AFTS Makin’ Some Pots Eddie Jacot, Cabin 16
Pottery is a great class because you are able to make anything you
want. You can make something for your family as a gift, or you can
make something for yourself and be proud that you made it with your
own hands. In pottery, there are two ways to used the clay: on the
wheel or using the slabs to make abstract things. I like to use the
slabs because they allow for a lot more creativity and free
form
art. On the wheel, you need to have a lot of upper body strength
because you need to hold the clay in place while it is spinning
around. After you are done on either one, you have to let the clay
air dry and then put it into the kiln. After the kiln has made the
clay more fragile and glass-like, you are able to glaze it or paint
it to make it a differ- ent color than pink. Pottery is a really
fun class and one of the best in camp!
OOOH SHINY! Edward Hoffman, Cabin 10
In Silvershop, you have the opportunity to make whatever you want!
Take a piece of metal and turn it into a work of art by using all
that is provided. Between wire and plate metal, you can make almost
anything. If you make a ring, you first have to measure the ring
size. Next, cut the metal the correct size and ham- mer it into a
round shape.
Once it starts to look like a ring, then you get to solder it shut.
Soldering is when you use the torch and take metal and melt it in
between the gap to make the ring stay together. Next, you file it
and put it in pickling acid. This makes all of the stuff that is
not metal, such as dirt and solder scrap, come off the ring.
Finally, you polish it to make it shine. Silvershop is sweet.
Arts and Crafts in All Nick Stallone, Working Senior
Out of all the depart- ments at Camp Shohola, there is only one
where you can have the chance to make something and be able to show
off what you have to your friends and family. I am of course
speaking of the Arts and Crafts department. With classes like
Pottery, Stained Glass, Silvershop, Photography, Woodshop,
Rocketry, and many more, who could resist filling your schedule
full of these classes? Pottery explores
the boundaries of work- ing with clay. You can use the wheel or the
slabs to make your choice of a masterpiece. Stained Glass allows
you to take glass panes and cut them into amazing designs which can
be soldered together and last a lifetime! Sil- vershop allows you
to try your skills on metal and make your way through the metallic
world of art. Moving along we come to rocketry which can make you
dream of becoming
one with an astronaut one day. Next we have Wood- shop which brings
you into the natural and craftsman like parts of the arts. You can
choose any wood you want and widdle your way to perfection.
Photography allows you to take the life you see through your own
eyes and cast your visions into the worlds eyes. Each one of these
classes takes practice to master, but over time, just like sports,
you are able to showcase your real talent and make all the other
people in the class envy the skills you have acquired. Arts and
crafts shows you that no
matter what the task, with a little work, it is possible to achieve
your goal. Even though most of the classes are geared towards the
lit- tler campers, it is an outlet of expression for those who want
to show what they are really made of. Art at Shohola also gets
displayed for the whole camp to see at the final art show, and
allows the people you see everyday to see what you can really do.
Arts and Crafts is an amaz- ing department, and I love every minute
of it. You should try your skills and sign up for a class
today!
WATER FRONT Just Keep Swimming... Aidan Fiol, Cabin 16
Almost everyone has to take Swimming at camp. When you get here,
you have to take your Deep Water Test. After that, you are put into
a level between one and five, five being the best. If you are
better than level five, you can pass out of taking swimming and
move on to an option of
taking Lifeguarding class instead. At the waterfront, you can also
do your 36 laps, and be able to go on all sorts of trips like wa-
terskiing and white water rafting. Doing your 36 laps consists of
swimming from dock to dock 36 times in a row. All in all, swim-
ming is a very swell class.Canoe all the Way!...
Luis Figueroa, Cabin 10 Canoeing is very fun because we get to flip
over the boats. Then, we get to go under the boats and breathe
underwater with a bubble of air. This is great because we get to
have so much fun and relax in the
class. We also have a lot of intense canoeing classes where we race
to blueberry island and back for prizes. Canoeing is a really fun
class to take and I think everyone should try it out!
Come Sail Away! Edward Hoffman, Cabin 10
In sailing, you flash around the lake with al- most no manpower.
The wind just takes you where it flows, and dies when it wants.
Pulling the sail can make you go faster or slower if you release
it. It teaches you a great way to bond with the your friend with
you in the boat. Since it is either you and another person or just
you by your- self, you have to focus and pay attention to the flow
of the boat to make sure you dont crash or dam- age anything.
Flipping is
one of the best parts. A big gust of wind might come and just scoop
up your sail and carry you over the side and into the lake. The
harder part is getting the boat back up. This you need a little bit
of upper body strength to do. You push on the board under the boat,
and the boat starts to tip back over to the side its supposed to
have up, and she sail starts to rise back out of the water. Sail-
ing is my favorite water- front class. Sailing rocks!
i need some H2O! Brice Schleman, Cabin 3
Waterfront might not be the favorite of ev- erybody in camp, but it
is a nice place to cool off when you are hot. Kayak- ing, one of
our favorite classes, is when you get to take out the kayaks and do
all different kinds of rolls. Also, there is windsurfing where you
can take the board with or without the sail and go out onto the
lake. Another fun activity
is sailing, which allows you to go with a friend out on to the lake
and sail across in between differ- ent people. One of the swimming
classes is very fun, and teaches us the different strokes and how
to get faster in the water. Waterfront is a cool place to hang,
whether in a ca- noe or pirate boating, you can always find a place
to have some serious fun.
LAND SPORTS
Hit that Ball Outta Here! Eddie Jacot, Cabin 16
If you have a pas- sion for baseball like I do, sign up for
baseball. It is a really fun class where we are taught things about
baseball that most people have never heard of. In baseball class,
you learn how to field a ground ball all the way up to hitting. You
learn how to slide into
the plate, and also how to position your body for the best hit. The
two instruc- tors are usually Mike Karp and Aaron Insler. They know
a lot about baseball and have been playing for years. If you want
to be in the major leagues some day sign up soon.
Ball on a String, I mean ROPE! Jamal Litzenberger, Cabin 6
Tetherball is one of my favorite activities to play on the hill.
When they fixed the tetherballs, it became a sensation for
everyone. It is almost al- ways being played, and sometimes even
more than
Gaga. I like it more than gaga, and is easier to play because it
doesnt take as much time. Even the girls play from Netimus and here
when they are near. Tetherball is so much fun!
Flying Discs Anonymous Writer Here at Camp Shohola, we have classes
from all different kinds of backgrounds, but nothing can compare to
the class of Frisbee. In the class, we learn how to throw the
firsbee, catch the fris- bee, and where to be for the maximum
amount of distance with the frisbee. I enjoy learning about the
different kinds of throws that there are, and there is one where
you throw the frisbee in the air vertically,
and then the air pushes the frisbee until it is parallel to the
ground and levels out for the other person to catch. Also, I like
it when the frisbee picks up air in the middle of the throw and
goes even higher than when it started. Frisbee class also goes down
to the waterfront and practices their throws and catches over the
water to help with making them secure with diving for the
frisbee.
COMMTECH Broadcasting Around the World Connor Kelley, Cabin 16
Three years after my first radio class I finally got first class
DJ. I was now able to do radio shows on my own or with a partner.
It was tough, I had to do a correct sign on, play some public
service announce- ments, read the news, play a song, and the entire
time I couldnt forget a step or even say too many “ughs...” in my
sentences, but I finally got it. After that, I could play music at
any time, the music that I wanted to listen to. Nick Stallone, also
known as Snowball, confirms this, say- ing “the greatest thing
about radio is playing the music I love and people request- ing to
not play it, which is when I say come down here
and be the DJ yourself”. To be where I am, you have to take radio
CLASS first. You learn about legal ids, playing records, using
computers for music, doing interviews (on the phone, recording, or
in the studio, and much more. An impor- tant thing to do is see
that the levels are okay, because if its too loud, it will not only
hurt someones ear but its also considered illegal. More important,
however, is too make sure everything is clean. For example, if
someone requests a song that you dont know, ask if its appropriate
for radio, because you dont play a song that screams the “F” bomb
on air. You can loose
everything in radio if you do that, so be careful. Also, if you
make a mistake, dont say “oops”, for you should not let your
audience know you made a mistake (unless it was a huge one, such as
the one I mentioned earlier). Once youve learned everything and you
think you are ready, you will take the DJ test. Theres fourth
class, third class, second class, and first class, as well as just
failing. The smaller the class, the less you can do. Youll go from
star- ring with a partner in non- stared shows to starring on your
own on starred shows (starred shows are you go- ing on air on your
own). You must do everything in order, as well as pronounce
clearly, have levels correctly, try not
to say any ughs, blahs, or oops, and much more. Tom Gibson, had of
CommTech, says that “the biggest mis- take you can make is not be-
ing prepared for an event”. Trust me, you have to be as
professional as can be. Once youre first class, its a big responsi-
bility, but also a lot of fun. Youre basically playing the music
that you love. You can tell about the bands youre playing, you can
talk about events that happened or are upcoming that you enjoy, and
its one of the greatest jobs you can have. The radio is the place
where you can be your- self. So bring your down your iPod, plug in,
check your levels, and get ready for the time of your life.
Can You Hear Me Now? Sammy Hartman, Cabin 7 Radio is my favorite
subject. Not only do you get to listen to your favor- ite music,
you also get to broadcast it to the whole world through the radio
and the internet. When I did a radio show, I had my mom and dad
watch
online and they got to call in. You might think that just three or
four people listen, but over two hun- dred people listen to you
broadcast live. Overall, radio is the coolest class and you have to
take it!
BAR N, O C a n d TR IPS Hay for the Horses! Matt Chin, Cabin
3
The horses are very cool, nice and playful. All of the horses names
are Carlos, Shooter, Tonto, Snoopy, JW, Bradford, Bailey, and
Tamale. Tonto is the biggest horse there, and is different from the
other ones because he is black and white. Also, there is Tamale who
is different because he is brown. It is a
lot of work being down at the barn. You have to feed the horses
every day and clean up after them. Carlos and Tamale get two scoops
of feed because they are skinnier than the other horses, and all of
the hors- es get garlic for the flies. Thats all I know about the
horses, and I will definitely be taking riding next year!
Rafting down the River Nathan Lalli, Cabin 16
Trips were great this year, but the Hud- son rafting trip was the
highlight of the year. It was a long ride to get there, but when we
finally got to the river, we started to have the time of our lives.
When we got there we took a hike and went swimming in a
freez-
ing lake. The next day we went rafting on class 4 rap- ids for 5
hours. It was very intense. We had to endure rough water and big
rocks. Unfortunately we had some shocking events, and had to leave
early. It was an amazing trip. I would rec- ommend this trip to
every- body because it was so fun.
Cooking by the Creek side Sebastian Perez-Verdia, Cabin 14 Outdoor
Cooking is one of the few classes where you are able to im- merse
yourself in nature. Outdoor Cooking has never been about the food,
but rather the people you meet along the way. Its about being with
your friends, having fun and be- ing around the fire. That is why
we call it The Class of the Four Fs ( Fun, Fire, Friends, and
Food). We
learn how to prepare food and, of course, all of the safety rules
that follow. During Outdoor Cooking, you can sit by the creek,
listen to music, and eat while conversing with all of your friends.
If you like having a good time while spending time with people
having the time of your life, then take Outdoor Cooking next year
and join in on the amazement!
Rallying the Ropes Inigo Martin, Working Senior Ropes is a very
inter- esting and a very fun class. Here at Camp Shohola, we have a
very good ropes course, and we have the best ropes counselors in
the world. In Shohola, we have ropes on A days and on B days. The A
days are only for the lower campers,
and the B days are only for upper camp. Also we have good climbers
like Fran- cisco Lorenzo, Jason Ken- ny. In the second month, we
had the rock climbing competition against other camps like Lake
Greeley and Pine Forest, and with our best climbers we won.
SHOHOLA EXTR AS Predator Vs. Prey Jack Vickery, cabin 9
A new game that we have this year is the game Predator vs. Prey. I
think this is the best game we have had at Camp Shohola all year
long and it is really fun to play. With teams of insects, frogs,
snakes and hawks; your objective is to get as many water tokens as
possible while trying to keep the players on your team. When the
bell rings, your job is to go to the des-
ignated H20 areas around camp and sing a song to get water for your
team. Then, if you are a frog, you start to hunt down the insects
and get them on your team. If you are a snake, you try to get the
frogs and insects on your team. If you are a hawk, you can attack
anyone you want and you want to end up with the most people on your
team as possible
by the end. Insects get the most points at the end, but cannot
attack any other team. Insects rather have to collect as much water
as they can, keep their people, and then stay away from all of the
other teams. The way you attack other teams is by coming up to them
and having your counselor blow their whistle and start playing a
game of tag for fifteen seconds. Any- one who is tagged by the
predators is now a predator themselves, and the preda-
tor team cannot attack that prey team unless they make a move in
the game. With the painted faces and the sweat dripping bodies, we
run across camp trying our hardest to be the best team. Ending up
at the baseball field to be safe, the game ends and the teams meet
to see how many people they have. The winning team is announced and
we all go off to shower. I love playing this game because it is
full of excitement, and is intense and thrilling.
Juan Jo Lorenzo Tops them ALL! Mike Ryan, cabin 9
Being in Cabin 9 is a blast when you have a counselor like Juan Jo
Lorenzo! He is a Rock Dawg, a Lifeguard, and can make the girls go
crazy! He has been seen at waterfront having the Greeley girls
drooling over him. Also, he has a brother, Francisco who is equally
amazing. With his perfor- mance at Pike Idol, he has all of the
girls worshiping him and making him fa- mous all the way through
the night. Following in his brothers footsteps, Fran- cisco will
someday be as
good as his brother. Also, with cousins like Rodrigo and Santiago
Fortes, there is no competition in say- ing that Juan Jose might
just be the most interest- ing man in the world. He should have
been selected to replace the man in the Dos Equis commercial be-
cause he is just that much more extreme. His skills far surpass any
man known to mankind, and he shall go down in history as the best
man to ever walk the grounds of Camp Shohola, let alone the
World!
Swim for your Color Jay Sanchez, cabin 7
The Green and White Swim Meet is when everyone goes down to the
waterfront, and the green and white teams both compete in swimming
and boating races. Everyone is assigned to an event from kayaking
to backstroke to water polo and more. Every time you win an event,
you gain points for your team. The more first places you get, the
more
points are given to your team. There are also spirit awards that
are given out on the beach and in the crib. These include making
the best sand castle, build- ing a chain, finding the potatoes, and
even writing the name of the team on the beach. I think the Green
and White Swim Meet is a great event in the race to victory, and it
earns a lot
SHOHOLA EXTR AS
Stalk the Lantern Ethan Barger, cabin 2
Stalk the Lantern is a game for all of the camp to play. To win,
you should dress in all black and lay low to the ground in order to
not make any sounds. There are people on the rock wall waiting for
you to maker sounds so that they can point their flash- lights at
you and get you out. You have to make it to the rock wall before
the time is up, and also make
it before the people on the wall point their flashlights at you. If
you are caught, you have to go all the way back up the hill and to
your cabin to go to bed. Everybody at the end of the game ends up
in their cabins, just the time that you get there is different. I
think Stalk the Lantern is really fun and I really want to play it
next year.
Pike County Horses Tristan Krieger, cabin 11
One of my favorite riding events is the Pike County Horse Show be-
cause we get to compete against more than one camp in the area for
best riding. Some of the camps that show up include Neti- mus,
Timber Tops, Lake Owego, Pine Forest, and Lake Greeley. We com-
pete against them in many different events, and get ribbons for
different place- ments based on how well we performed as opposed to
them. I love Pike Coun- ty and I love horseback
riding. Together, they spell F-U-N. The Pike County Horse Show only
happens once a year, and allows us to show the other camps what we
are capable of in our own program. Even though we didnt win this
year, we always have next year to look forward to.I have competed
in every single horse show while I have been here, and have enjoyed
every single one. I suggest rid- ing because it is fun, ex-
hilarating, and lovable.Gibby is the Best!
Jasper Wilson, cabin 16
Gibby is by far the awesomest counselor ever! He has a cool per-
sonality and is an amazing magic superstar. He is a GREAT role
model and he deserves respect for his work. I personally think that
he should take better
care of his trunk because it keeps on ending up in dif- ferent
places around camp. Basically all I have to say is that I LOVE
GIBBY!
Love, Jasper Wilson
Running on Apache Juice Michael Kaufmann, Working Senior The day of
the Apache Race was one of the most hectic days ever. The day
before the Race we did sign-ups so every- one was in the race.since
I was co-captain I helped with that and if people left we had to
fill there spot with another kid. The day of the race was
so hectic. Since it was pouring large amounts of rain we decided
make the Apache race in the morning because the rain wouldnt let
down. When we found out we had to finalize who was doing what in
the race. Dur- ing the race The captain, Francisco Lorenzo,
The
co-captains, Me and Trent Sonnenfeldt went around making sure
everything was okay and people were where they should be. At the
end of the race when we were canoeing back to the floating dock so
that we could win. All I could think was that I could go back to my
cabin and take a nice hot shower. My legs and arms were so soar
from running like a mad
man from event to event. My favorite event that I participated in
was hand paddling the war canoe be- cause the white team was right
behind us until they didnt know how to turn and hit the bank. I
couldnt stop smiling or laughing when I saw that. that is when I
realized we need- ed to win this for Green. guess what? WE
DID.
SHOHOLA EXTR AS What to do in the Afternoon? James O’Dell, Working
Senior
This second month brought the winds of change. Due to the lack of
campers, Duncan instituted the concept of Afternoon Select to Camp
Shohola to re-spark interest. Instead of having classes assigned in
the afternoon, this al- lows campers to choose different activities
and not have the same routine every other day. This has not been
there in the past, but seeing how success- ful it turned out to be
this year, I dont see any rea- son why we havent done before, with
activities like Four-Leaf Clover Hunt- ing, Predator and Prey,
and
rowing across Lake Gree- ley. The difference with having these
select classes in the afternoon is that you get to do the activity
for a full two hours and not have to worry about time and getting
the class to run faster. Each kid is able to relax and try new
things that might not have been available in the sign-ups. This
allows everyone to have the best time pos- sible at camp and not be
forced to do something they do not want. Overall, Afternoon Select
has been a great success and would be an ample placement for next
years schedule.
BECKER BECKER!! Alex Beidleman and Ethan Ludwig, Cabin 3
Becker is the great- est counselor in the his- tory of counselors.
He is always there for you and he only gets mean when he is
disrespected. One day we got donuts from all of our counselors,
and
got pizza the same day! Becker is always fair with us. All the kids
that dont have Becker as a counselor should be jealous that their
counselor isnt as good. Three cheers for Becker!
I’m Bringing ME Back! Tom Ng, Cabin 6 Counselor
Its Springtime, youre stuck in the office or school and youre only
thinking about one thing... coming back to Shohola for round 2 of
unexpected fun filled fun. I remember the feeling, thinking about
how much longer I have top wait until I plant my feet back on the
soil prop- erly named “Happy Land”. Day dreaming about the epic fun
I had with my fel- low counselors and camp-
ers, I just cant help but yearn for the day to come earlier. I
remember when I first entered Shohola, it was a new surrounding;
but now I look at it as a home. What makes the second time so much
bet- ter than the first is that you learn from the first year what
you have and havent done, so you can take the opportunity youre
pre- sented with the second year and fully grasp it.
Cabin 5 is AAALLL HEERE! Ben Harrison, Cabin 5
Cabin 5 Counsel- ors are pretty awesome. With Tom Landis as the
leader, he brings the loud noises into the cabin and makes sure
everything is in order. Steven is the foreigner who is awesome and
even speaks French! Omer is the awesome one
who comes way over from Cabin 4 and makes the cabin a great place
to live. Rodrigo is the Rock Dawg who can take down anyone in the
cabin. If anyone saw our booth during Carnival, this just goes to
show how awesome we are. Cabin 5 is the best cabin ever!

Director’s Note Duncan Barger Everything I Know in Life I Learned
at Camp Shohola. By Duncan and Holly Barger (with a little help
from Eric Insler)
1. The only time it is okay to run with sharp objects in your hand
is when pie is being served.
2. Everything suddenly becomes much more exciting if you just begin
by shouting “TO- NIGHT!!!”.
3. Everything suddenly becomes much more popular if you just call
it “pirate” or “shadow”.
4. You’d be amazed at what people would do for a candy bar.
5. You’d be amazed at how few pairs of un- derwear it takes to get
through a summer.
6. There’s almost no problem that can’t be solved by rest
hour.
7. There’s a trick to the magic; but there is also magic to the
trick.
8. If you want to meet someone, just ask them to come to the
deck.
9. There’s almost nothing that isn’t funny if you just put it up
the flag-pole.
10. There’s almost nothing that is funny when you find it in your
bed.
11. Someone stole the cookies from the cook- ie jar and I want them
back!
12. An apple a day can keep the doctor away, but a banana can kill
you!
13. If your pants are really on fire, suddenly being a liar seems
less important.
14. Nothing is forever... except Shohola For- ever!!!
DEDICATION This years Dedication of the Argus
goes to:
Mariel Delgado
Among the people we have here at Shohola, there are few that make
themselves stick out above the rest. One of the people we all
know
and love is commonly referred to as “The Nice Lady in the Office”,
or Mariel. Celebrating her sixth year at Shohola this year, she has
shown her dedication to the family of Shohola all through the
summers she has shared with us. Down at the office almost 24/7,
Mariel is always there when you need something. Whether it be
changing your schedule, check- ing up on trips, or balancing your
account, she is always happy to lend a helping hand. One thing she
is always known for is having a smile on her face, and a quickness
in her step. Wherever she is needed, she will get there two times
faster than the normal person. Her work at the Lower Office es-
sentially runs the camp and makes the day to day procedures run in
tip top shape. She is a mother to us all, and a hero to many, and
shows us that there is something to strive for in life: the
achievement of perfection. Mariel is able to take on the work load
to keep camp functioning, and the amount of work that would
probably drive any other person absolutely insane. She is our base,
our foundation, and she will forever be known as Superwom- an.
Thank you Mariel for all of your dedication towards Shohola and we
hope that you will stay a part of the Shohola for many summers to
come. On behalf of all of Shohola, Mariel, this Argus edition is
dedicated to you.
