Whats New in Argos 44Evisions is pleased to announce the release of Argos version 44 which contains a significant number of fixes to both the Argos client and the Web Viewer several performance improvements and a few new enhancements We have also made some improvements to MAPS adding in some of the features youve requested

MAPS and Argos Updates

Some of the updates to Argos require corresponding updates to MAPS We recommend upgrading both products to the latest version concurrently This guide contains a description of both MAPS and Argos changes

Installation

1 Prepare test environment and ensure current backup

We highly recommend installing updates in a test environment before applying them to your production environment You should make sure that a current backup is available in case of any unforeseen issues

2 Check for updates

To install Argos and MAPS 44 click the Check for Updates button in the MAPS Configuration tool to view available updates Note If you are not already running Argos and MAPS 4x please refer to the Argos 40 Release Guide for additional upgrade information

3 Allow update process to complete

When applying updates to the MAPS service you will be temporarily disconnected from the server Do not manually restart the server during this process as you will be reconnected automatically when the update has been applied

4 Verify the latest version is installed

To ensure that you are on the most current version continue clicking the Check for Updates button and applying the updates until no new updates are available

It is possible to apply updates when users are on the system however to avoid the possibility of losing unsaved work we recommend applying updates during off hours

Do NOT cancel reconnection attempt

The update process may take a few minutes you will be reconnected when the update has been applied

Summary of New Features

Argos Web Viewer

n OLAP cubes in the Web Viewer now use colors on the measure and dimension buttons to indicate the presence of filtered and invisible values

n OLAP cubes in the Web Viewer now support using additional datasets in the cube

Argos Client

n Added support for Unicode characters in Argos variable names and aliases

n You can now add tables from SQL Server linked servers in the visual query designer

n Added a DPI setting dropdown to the bottom of the banded report editor that allows the Report Writer to specify the DPI setting that the report was designed for

n You can now use aliases in addition to variable names when adding additional filters while designing a report

n Extract reports in XML format now let you choose to insert a self-closing tag for fields that return null values instead of simply omitting the tags

MAPS

n The Argos Web Viewer and MAPS eLauncher are now hosted on Evisions servers This Content Delivery Network (CDN) allows us to deploy updates without any effort required on your part The Argos mapplet and MAPS contain local copies of the files to ensure continuous access in the event of a network outage MAPS administrators can also specify whether MAPS should use the CDN or the local version

n Removed the optional widgets from the eLauncher in order to streamline the page and focus on providing software content

n Logging in to the MAPS application clients should be slightly faster now providing performance gains in environments with large numbers of users

n Added support for PROT P encryption (private data channel encryption) when sending files via FTPS

Report ViewersOLAP Cube Dimensions and Measures with Filtered and Invisible Values

Similar to how invisible and filtered dimensions and measures are shown in the Argos client OLAP cubes in the Web Viewer now use colored indicators to show which dimensions have invisible and filtered values

n Invisible values (blue icon) are not displayed in the OLAP cube but they are still included in the cube totals

n Filtered values (red icon) are not displayed in the OLAP cube and are not included in the cube totals

Notice how the Dimensions button is shown in red indicating the presence of filtered values When you open the Dimension Editor you can see that the region_name dimension contains filtered values If there were only invisible values the Dimensions button would be highlighted in blue instead

Similarly when a measure has minmax value filtering applied the Measures button at the top of the OLAP cube appears in red

Report WritersSelf-Closing Tags in XML Extract Reports

For extract reports in XML format you can now choose to insert a self-closing tag for fields that contain null values instead of simply omitting the tags

Checking the Output if null option for a field means that even if this field contains no data it will still be included in the XML report

When adding a table in the visual designer the Add Table dialog now includes an optional checkbox that lets you use a query to read the table columns This option is only needed when adding tables from linked servers in SQL Server since these tables cannot normally be read by the ADO OpenSchema function that is used to retrieve the list of tables

The box prepopulates with select from and you can simply repeat the name of the table at the end of this statement

For very large tables you may wish to use a faster query such as select top 1 from spriden

You may use this option with other databases and non-linked servers however it is not needed and you can simply specify the table name directly

The web files for the eLauncher and Argos Web Viewer are now loaded on demand from Evisionsrsquo servers This allows us to deploy updates to the product launch page and Argos Web Viewer without requiring you to update the MAPS service or the Argos mapplet Evisions uses a Content Delivery Network (CDN) to host the pages The Content Delivery Network (CDN) URL field on the HTTP File Server screen contains the location where MAPS looks for the CDN

The default URL points to the hosted content on Evisionsrsquo servers located at httpswebapp01evisionscom Altering this URL will cause MAPS to look in a different location for the eLauncher and Web Viewer files and should only be done when working with an Evisions tech to resolve a support issue

If you do not wish to use the hosted files you can continue to use the local versions included in the MAPS service and Argos mapplet by blanking out the CDN URL field (remove the URL entirely) In this case you will need to wait for new releases of MAPS and Argos before you can get the latest updates to the eLauncher or Web Viewer

When the CDN is enabled if a user cannot access the CDN resources for some reason MAPS serves up the local versions of the launch page and Web Viewer This ensures seamless access in the event of a network outage or other issue that interferes with accessing the hosted content You can check the version number at the bottom of the eLauncher or in the Help -gt About in the Web Viewer to see which version of the software you are currently running in case the local and hosted versions are different

DataBlock DesignersAdding Tables from SQL Server Linked Servers

When adding a table in the visual designer the Add Table dialog now includes an optional checkbox that lets you use a query to read the table columns This option is only needed when adding tables from linked servers in SQL Server since these tables cannot normally be read by the ADO OpenSchema function that is used to retrieve the list of tables

The box prepopulates with select from and you can simply repeat the name of the table at the end of this statement

For very large tables you may wish to use a faster query such as select top 1 from spriden

You may use this option with other databases and non-linked servers however it is not needed and you can simply specify the table name directly

The web files for the eLauncher and Argos Web Viewer are now loaded on demand from Evisionsrsquo servers This allows us to deploy updates to the product launch page and Argos Web Viewer without requiring you to update the MAPS service or the Argos mapplet Evisions uses a Content Delivery Network (CDN) to host the pages The Content Delivery Network (CDN) URL field on the HTTP File Server screen contains the location where MAPS looks for the CDN

The default URL points to the hosted content on Evisionsrsquo servers located at httpswebapp01evisionscom Altering this URL will cause MAPS to look in a different location for the eLauncher and Web Viewer files and should only be done when working with an Evisions tech to resolve a support issue

If you do not wish to use the hosted files you can continue to use the local versions included in the MAPS service and Argos mapplet by blanking out the CDN URL field (remove the URL entirely) In this case you will need to wait for new releases of MAPS and Argos before you can get the latest updates to the eLauncher or Web Viewer
