ArgonewsBest use energy is a permanent effort for Argo. There is an open project, results are reviewed periodically and new targets are considered. The results of this effort at Koropi plant are depicted in the following diagram.

The installation of an innovative system for heating and cooling areas of the plant had significant contribution to this. The system is using thermal energy recovered as a byproduct of the process of producing compressed air for the needs of the factory. The heat is recovered by cooling the oil of an a compressor that supplies the air network of the factory with compressed air in a rate of 20m³/min.During the winter the recovered heat, in the form of hot water is used for the heating and as a result there is no consumption of conventional fuel in the burner-boiler, as used in the past.During the summer the hot water is introduced in an absorption chiller and cold

water is produced, and used in the existing air-condition network. As a result no electric power is consumed as it used to in the conventional chillers. For this project Argo was awarded by the Greek Association of Environment Protection companies (PASEPPE). PASEPPE organized a successful ceremony on December 3rd, Argo was awarded in the category of sustainable process, but the jury considered not only the environmental benefits of the project ,but also both social and economic aspects of sustainability (e.g the company’s social practices and economic performance)The Award was received by Mrs.Demy Mitrogiannopoulou , President, who dedicated the award to Argo’s personnel and especially to Mr.Thanassis Papadopoulos, Maintenance manager who coordinated the project.

Summer is always a hard period for Fire Brigade due to increased risk of fire. The firefighters are working in extremely difficult conditions all day and overnight. To support the local Koropi station with hardware and consumables which make their work easier and safer was considered by Argo as small social obligation. The chief of fire station Mr.Athanasios Tzoitis visited Argo and thanked our CEO Mr. George Stassinopoulos giving him a plaque and his book. Mr.Tzoitis is the author of an interesting educational book for children under the title “The country with green fire trucks”.We also like to thank them for all their efforts!

The 23rd edition of CPhI Worldwide 2012 and co-located events ICSE, P-MEC and InnoPack attracted about 30,000 visitors from the global pharmaceutical community.

CPhIWorldwide2012,Madrid(9-11October2012)

This time it was held in Feria de Madrid on October 9-11th.The fair is indeed “one stop buys” for the Pharmaceutical Industry representing all aspects of ingredients market, providing an international stage for contract manufacturing, showing the latest machinery, technology and lab equipment and through Innopack the latest pharma packaging materials. Several Speakers’ corners gave opportunities for training and information exchange on various issues.

Among most important trends in the Pharmaceutical industry we could discern the following: Slower market growth and as result an increased interest in emerging markets, generics increase, OTC development, shift to therapies ,more stringent regulatory requirements, development of preservative free medicines, lack of innovative molecules, cost control from payers and patient compliance.

Page 11: ARGONews 6 En Version

Even though InnoPack is the second time organized under the CPhI flag, is quite fast extended attracting pharma professionals’ interest. Tracing the trends in the Pharmaceutical sector, Packaging industry is trying to fulfill the new requirements : adding innovation without adding cost , providing affordable, scalable and sustainable solutions, taking care for convenience, portability, shelf appearance , patient compliance and friendliness, accessible dosing to use all the product in proper way. New biologic molecules demand for special protection and Anti-Counterfeiting remains an important issue. Just to mention that counterfeiting in global pharma market is about $500bn and causes almost 700.000deaths/year.

In developed countries like the Europeans we should consider the aging population with chronic deceases, the growing demand for self administration as a result of cost savings, the need for more safety features and ease to use. In addition the injectable generics are growing and new injectable drugs appear (biotech drugs), so delivery differentiation through packaging is even there important. RFID is still expensive for retail, but finds already applications in cold chain and bulk packaging.Extension of drug shelf life is also another challenge for packaging suppliers. Several solutions like active or multilayer packaging are finding more and more applications.Mrs Dora Vakirtzi, Business Development & Marketing Manager, visited the fair, as ARGO usually try to gather the latest info and offer its customers the proper products and services.
