Geriatric clients have a myriad of issuesthat the normal adult may not face Variable reaction to medications and/or
anesthesia
Decreased support system Co-morbidities
Increased trend of delirium dx whilehospitalized

Benefits of increased geriatricnursing education
2001 study by the Journal of EmergencyRoom Nurses showed increased andimproved screening for depression
Benefit to the entire nursing professionas well as to client/patient care
Nurse certification has been linked tobetter patient outcomes, according tothe American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN),[2] which found thatcertification is tied to a reduction inmedical errors, among other benefits.

Students and programs have a limitedtime to get the required course workcompleted.
In todays economy, most students arehard pressed to take electives notnecessary for graduation.
