THE BUMBLEBEE
Bumblebees typical ly nest in the
ground, but they can also be seen near
your patio or deck. In some cases,
theyl l bui ld nests in att ics or under
roof beams.
If you become a threat to abumblebee, they begin to buzz at a
louder volume. They get quite
aggressive when they think their nests
are in danger.
They have six legs and are black with
yellow stripes. The best way to prevent
this problem is to remove potential
nesting materials from the home.

Carpenter bees build nests for
themselves and their young.
They can l i teral ly dri l l through
the wood in your home.
Because their st ingers arent
barbed, they can repeatedlyst ing an individual . Just an inch
in length, these bees are have
a blue-black color scheme.
They tend to prefer bare wood,
and painting or staining the
surfaces outside your home can
be a good deterrent. They also
l ike nests in higher places, so
the nesting site can be tough to
reach.

Honeybees are responsible for
pol l inating many crops in the US. They
are the most recognizable type of bee.
Golden with yellow brown bands, they
wil l bui ld natural nests in the crevices
of trees, but some have found nests in
the att ic or the chimney of their home.
They can only st ing once, as their
st inger tears off when they try to get
away. The colonies themselves can be
quite large, and removal is often a
messy job.

Your fi rst step if you notice an
issue should be to call a
professional . Dont try to cover
up the nest or cut off the bees
access to the nest, as you needto remove the colony before you
do that. You should also try to
avoid the bees, as a sting could
be l i fe-threatening. Leave this
job to the Brevard County bee
