Area/Region Conclave Packing List (Silver Wings)
Business Sessions Men and Women All Day Saturday
Men: Suit with dress shirt, tie, and dress shoes, (try to avoid white athletic socks with dress
shoes). Bring at least 2 dress shirts if possible – one to wear during meetings and one for the
banquet. Spills happen, be prepared.
Women: Business suits – can be a skirt or a pant suit. Skirts must be knee length, blazer/jacket
are always required and must have full length sleeves. Nylons and pantyhose are required even
with pants. I highly suggest bringing extras because there’s a high possibility something might
get snagged. Also, must have closed toed shoes but sling-backs are ok.

Men: Suits are just fine; you don’t have to bring a tux.
Women: Evening dresses/gowns – knee length or below. If your dress is at knee-length, be sure to wear panty hose. Dresses may be one-shouldered as long as it’s tasteful. Strapless is also fine

Etiquette
• Arrive on time, be prepared and dress appropriately – business attire must have blazer/tie. Cell phones
must be silenced or off during meetings. For AAS/SW conclave meetings, uniforms or professional
dress are required.
• Be courteous to each speaker and do not interrupt others. Thank guest speakers for their time and effort.
Attack problems, not people, during debate and ask for clarification of any unclear point.
• Show respect for others during meetings. Stay alert and interested during the meeting.
• Note discussions of legislations and issues to share with absentee members.
• Wait until senior executives are seated before taking a chair.
• Take careful notes during discussion, stick to the subject, and be sensitive to the dynamics of the group.
• Inappropriately dressed members or cadets with incomplete uniforms will be escorted out of meetings
and other functions by a protocol officer.
Dinner Etiquette
• Always wait for the head table to be seated before you sit and to begin eating before you start eating
(for every course).
• If there is an officer seated at your table, always wait for the officer to eat before you begin eating. This
applies to every course. If there are two officers seated at your table, wait for both of the officers to
begin eating before you do so.
• Do place your napkin in your lap as soon as you are seated at the table. Place your napkin on the table
to the left of your place if you must leave the table.
• Do be courteous and thank the wait staff.
• Don’t gesture with your cutlery in your hands. If you are not using the utensil, put it down.
• Do remember food is always on your left, beverages on your right.
• Do ignore any silverware that may fall to the floor. Pick up the next piece and continue. If no other
utensils are available, signal discreetly for the waiter to bring another.
• Do start from the outside and work your way towards the center for your utensils.
Toasts
• The person receiving the toast, whether it is for him/her or for something/someone he/she represents,
does not drink. It is an insult to the person or sentiment being honored for any other guest to refuse to
drink the toast.
• Always toast with tea, EXCEPT in the case of POWs, MIAs, and KIAs. They should ALWAYS be
toasted with water.
• Responses to toasts range from complicated phrases to a simple, “Hear, hear.”
a. Flag of the United States; Response: "To the Colors."
b. Commander in Chief; Response: "To the ! President."
c. Chief of Staff of US Army or USAF; Response: "To the Chief of Staff."
d. Chief of Naval Operations; Response: "To the Chief of Naval Operations."
e. Commandant of the Marine Corps; Response: "To the Commandant of the Marine Corps."
f. KIAs, MIAs, and POWs; Response: SILENCE in respect for those who cannot be there.
