In the year 1995, 3 young architecture graduates from IIT Kharagpur started an architectural practice called Tevatia Chauhan & Sharma Architects. The practice specialized and excelled in developing individual family homes.

In 2003, the practice was rechristened as Design Forum International (DFI), with a clear intent to foster an egalitarian organizational ethos where distinctive architectural talent finds self-expression and can contribute in a democratic and collaborative work environment.

The practice has since grown from strength to strength and is currently marching ahead with a vibrant team of over 100 professionals; each pursuing a distinctive value based architectural spirit that DFI imbues. DFI executes each piece of work undertaken with a deep sense of optimism, excellence and integrity, keeping in mind that each project is a legacy for our future generations. While DFI plays its role as an agent of change, its efforts are rooted in the principles of responsiveness to local context and sustainable architecture.

DFI’s prime objective is to achieve excellence in design, perfectly in balance to both time and cost. Our team is committed to emphasize communication and design for the people and environment.

Having won many accolades for our works, DFI has emerged as an institution which attracts great design minds; who love to thrive in a professionally charged environment focusing on every detail and exploring new design methodology for every project.

About DFIabout DFI

Our Habitats shape and influence our lives profoundly and, therefore, as custodians of the Built Environment where much intervention is necessitated in the name of Capacity up-gradation, we feel the need to emphasize inclusion of contextuality and conservation in our thoughts and designs.

If words were a repository of thoughts and ideas then DFI’s current thought process is captured thus:

• To play-IN into the continuum as opposed to playing OUT an egoistic expression of Disruptivism.

• To embellish with thoughtful contemporary interventions echoing the aspirations of our times while discarding architectural vestiges.

• To animate with meaningful newness; combining the use of a problem-solving approach with sensitive and delightful Urban Artistry.

• To be reverend to the substantive context; both Immediate and Cosmic.

• To pursue a practice of Architecture with a Conscience; A Karmic Architecture. that belongs to its PEOPLE and its PLACE.

Anand SharmaAnand is an architect, talented singer and literary enthusiast. He coined the slogan of ‘People first’ at DFI and constantly uses his leadership and people skills to mentor and upscale the creative and intellectual horsepower at DFI.

He is a die-hard realist and uses his extensive expertise in architecture and engineering combined with this innate ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in a democratic manner, to deliver high quality habitats that derive their beauty from sensitive selection of materials and refined detailing.

He believes that our cities must have a distinct character and as an architect, he lays great emphasis on including contextuality in our design responses. The visual vocabulary responds to the climatological requirements and cultural sensibilities to create a visual experience that is almost lyrical… much like his singing.

Goonmeet Singh ChauhanGoonmeet is an architect, urbanist, aspiring author and futurist with boundless enthusiasm to push the frontiers of possibility and bring forth newness that is both delightful and useful. He thrives in fluidity and employs a distinctive ‘Whole to Parts’ and ‘Parts to Whole’ approach that thins the dividing line between an emotion driven artist and a problem solving scientist to create designs that are ‘Simple yet not Obvious’.

The urbanist in him sees the city as a canvas and buildings as vehicles of patronage for local crafts and as opportunities for interplay of materials, colors, textures, volumes and silhouettes.

He believes that architects must go beyond the stated brief and use their imagination to discern the dynamic flow of life that shall happen within the containers called buildings to create habitats that are birthed in their context and irradiate experiential joy and visual delight.

Anoj Tevatia Anoj is an architect, chef and visual artist whose perspective making skills are legendary. His key strength lies in his unique creative flair at achieving distinctive concepts and quality spaces forming remarkable architectural designs. He is an artist of spaces, adding vibrant details that bring them alive. His interest resides in an architecture where the integration of building system technology and a sense of place is clearly expressed.

His enhanced ability to examine every nuance of design enables him to provide effective solution to projects of varying scale with a masterly ease.

He has immense ability to listen, perceive, diagnose and solve the key problems that needs to be addressed in his projects. He combines his sharp logical ability with his joyful nature to create habitats that embody the wow spirit.

The design Team pushed its thought to the very first concept of flying by Leonardo da Vinci, who took inspiration from birds to fly. The form was evolved while analyzing the postures of birds in different moods and relied on them to portray essence of the project, i.e.; display of Honor, Pride and Glory.

The idea is to create a “Symbolic Green Campus” that offers spaces that are delightful, useful and innovative; where environment strengthen a culture that offers education and discovery. The master plan is envisaged as a vehicle free sports campus, which is safe and secure for contiguous pedestrian movement. The site has been zoned into four major zones – academic, convention, contemplation and residential. The open space within the four zones acts as a binding space as well as segregates them all at the same time.

Buildings have been designed with the concepts of modularity, playfulness in exterior and interior spaces and phase-ability. The buildings have been placed in accordance to climatic context and green buffer. Open spaces include sports, ceremonial plaza, interaction plazas within academic zone and plaza of contemplation. In campus movement is guided by shaded walkway which binds all the areas together.

“Campuses offer Architects that rarest of opportunities: the design of a physical environment aligned with the intended psychological world of those inhabiting it. Academic institutes design their own educational missions, and buildings give them shape. But campus buildings also have an obligation to context; each has to take place in the ensemble, each must reflect the historic roots of learning and creativity, while embodying the evolving ideals of its academic community.”

Few developments have been able to catch the fancy of the avid shopper, the connoisseur, the critic and the professional like this one. Almost 8 years after it was unveiled, the Select Citywalk phenomenon keeps enthralling people. BUA of 1.4 million sq ft, 4 lac sq ft of Retail, 100 Services Apartments 50,000 sq ft of Office Space, 2000 Car Parking.

Unlike the scores of retail malls coming up all over Delhi and the surrounding region, Select Citywalk is not a glass and concrete box building but a low-rise intervention which retains the charm and character of traditional Delhi through the use of balconies and colonnades. Executed in association with DP Architects (Singapore) by the name TCS Architects (Sister Concern of DFI), Select Citywalk is one of the largest mixed-use developments in the Indian capital.

The mall is divided into three broad zones: Staple Traditional (family), Celebration (Centre-stage) and High Voltage (youth). There is also a 100,000 sq ft outdoor open plaza, Sanskriti, for art festivals, fairs, exhibitions, performances, and al fresco dining. The plaza is landscaped extensively in timber, water, stone and steel and has an open–air amphitheater, along with trees and water features. The vibrant nature of the landscaped plaza makes it a very popular hangout zone for the mall goers; it also delivers an Oasis of vision, imparting sensory relief to the urban animal.

The drop-off points are also separated, well- defined and earmarked for the respective zones of the development.

The Retail Segment is spread across the Ground, First and Second Levels. Plazas, walkways and courtyards are interwoven through the retail boulevards to present them with interesting vistas and offer high visibility and easy access to each shop.

Michael Schumacher World Tower also plays a host to the most chic clubhouse in town where the residents can escape the chaotic world and indulge in sports, wellness and recreational activities. Much to the pleasure of the residents, there is also a spectacular observatory deck that offers panoramic view of the skyline of Gurgaon. Last but not the least, the tower has introduced a museum featuring an exclusive collection of Schumacher’s memorabilia, so as to let the residents take a walk down the memory lane and explore the journey of the legend.

“The Initial Concept of Michael Schumacher World Tower was to design a building that would provide residents with a unique feeling of climbing aboard a Formula 1 car, specifically engineered for performance, speed and excitement. An early goal was to combine luxury and comfort with the glamour and excitement of racing and competing at the highest level. Only a perfect balance of these qualities would produce a product worthy of carrying the Schumacher name.”

We feel that the spirit of architectural adventurism and contemporiness must be saved for the internal experience and functional suaveness of the edifice. Continuity of the visual theme must be blended skillfully with the newness of the possibility that contemporary materials and technology have to offer. The pace of change that is reflected through must be slow. Continuum must win over revolutionary change; much like a “Modern Avatar of the old world order”.

Internal design layout is in accordance with the most recent operational trends in security, technology, and engineering, skilfully balancing optimal access and circulation patterns with the variety of programs and uses that transpire over the course of each day’s use.
