The expression of a synthesis of multiple parameters. We are a proudly non-specialised design firm that will look at every project as a first and not try and force fit existing design templates with cosmetic adaptation. Though enriched by the depth of past learning, each project is a unique event to explore and express... Contextualilty: The design process evolves from a thorough appraisal of the specific context of the project to creatively identify the challenges and opportunities. By context we mean the natural & built environment, people, program, construction... Design must create new possibilities for users and not constraints. Eclectism: The ultimate purpose of a design intervention is to create enduring beauty beyond the trappings of passing trends; an open dialogue between the project & its users. We strive to create a meaningful aesthetic experience rather than a striking ‘image’. Value authenticity more than originality. Sustainability: Sustainability is about ecology and society. ‘Economy of means’ is fundamental to (our) design. It is about optimal planning, whole-life cycle considerations, appropriate choice of material and systems. It is also but also about social inclusion. Sustainability is a living philosophy intrinsic to design. It permeates all aspects of our design. We adhere to this approach well before the emergence of the LEED, BREEAM, HQE and other such environmental ratings became a rage the world over. Focus, Discipline, Integrity: Thorough design studies and documentation back design solutions to ensure cost and time bound implementation. There is beauty in any task conducted with total commitment and integrity. It is this discipline and commitment to the job on hand that has allowed us to successfully deliver a wide range of projects and earn the confidence for a wide range of clients. It is here that the extensive experience of a variety of projects over the past 24 years comes to play.

Professional Particulars Profile of Principal Architect: Rohit Shinkre is a practicing Architect and Academician. Starting as as a trainee architect in Paris, France in 1987 , and establishing independent practice in Mumbai in 1996 he has worked on a variety of projects from planning to product design, in India, Europe, Middle-East & Africa, for a variety of user groups from communities to corporate. This solid experience is the basis of our capability to undertake and deliver design and planning studies and projects in any context. His academic work started a design studio mentor at his alma-mater Ecole d’Architecture de Paris- La Defense in 1991. He has been a key member of the faculty at the Rachana Sansad Academy of Architecture in Mumbai since 1996, where is currently Professor Design Chair, approved by the University of Mumbai, and Principal in charge. His work and articles have been published on many occasions in India as well as internationally. Resources: Centrally located and fully equipped design studio in own premises in Prabhadevi, Mumbai. Dnyanpeeth

1. Expert Advisor to the Municipal corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) on the Urban Policy for Street Vendors Research, survey and proposal for provision for hawkers and street vendors in Mumbai as per the 2009 National policy. Mission included extensive field survey, stakeholder interaction to arrive at planning and design strategies. Report submitted in September 2014.

2. Dadar - Mahim Seafront Development, Mumbai Master Planning, design and technical consultant to Maritime Board for the entire bay from Bandra reclamation to Worli. The project looks at defending the role of a vibrant public space along with the proposed works for coastal protection. Ongoing.

3. Jaipur International Convention Master Planning, design and technical consultant to Sharada Group for BOT proposal for a brown-field development of 11 Ha site near the Jaipur Airport around the International Convention Centre including hospitality, residential, commercial, retail & entertainment components.. April 2011.

4. Dyanpeeth, Jeevanvidya Mission Trust Campus, Karjat. Complete detail design and integrated planning and infrstructure design for a 10.5 acres campus including infrastructure & landscape based on Master plan by Architect Pradeep Tilaye, eKon Design Inc., USA. Completed in April 2012. Phase 2 in progress. Estimated project Cost Rs. 16 Cr.

5. Redevelopment of an Industrial site in Foshan, China. RSA has looked at the redevelopment and adaptive re-use of a massive 41 acres production site for Videocon as part of this overall master plan for the transformation of Foshan, China. As consultant to SIJCON, Ahmedabad. The proposal was presented and favourably received by the City Development Authorities in Foshan. June 2009.

6. Urban revival of Central Osaka / redevopment of the defunct Umeda rail cargo terminal. Redevelopment of 26 ha of the Umeda Rail-Cargo Terminal responds to specific requirements of the city of Osaka while putting forward more general thoughts on the post-industrial city of the 21st century and addressing specific opportunities for Osaka. Competition entry 2002.

7. EUROPAN Housing and Town Planning in the Tropics International competition organised by the EC. Proposal for mixed development plan for a 3.5 acres site in Les Abymes, French Caribbean, Guadeloupe. The project drew on the typology of traditional settlements and proposed a built environment that is equally suited for ‘pedestrian’ movement and community building based on shared use of common external spaces. 1999.

1. Lycee Francais de Pondichery Renovation and extension of a 1876 school campus in the heritage precinct of Pondichery. Project looks at providing a ‘new life’ to an old institution whilst respecting the strict guidelines for heritage conservation. Construction to start in May 2016.

2. Helsinki Guggenheim Entry for international design competition for the Guggenheim Helsinki. Site on the South harbour of this beautiful port city. The design was for a museum as an extension of the public realm- a public place that people could own-up.

3. Lecture & Multipurpose hall, Goa Medical College Campus New facilities in the existing campus. 19,500 s.ft. Site responsive design using topography to reduce construction cost and retaining existing trees. Program enhanced with conversion of the examination hall into a multi-purpose sports hall. Expected completion mid-2015.

4. RMO Hostel, Goa Medical College Campus New facilities in the existing campus. 28,500 s.ft. G+4 structure with 48 single occupant rooms and 24 studios, with all supporting amenities organised around a covered atrium space. Design development in progress. Un-built.

5. Villa at Ransai, 5,000s.ft Expressive site responsive design integrating itself within the existing mango orchards. The villa orgainses around 4 internal courtyards around existing and proposed plantation. Creating unique dialogue between interior and exterior spaces. Studies ongoing.

6. Bungalow in Karjat, 2,000s.ft The design is based on traditional concepts of sloping roof ,double height spaces, big verandah.Connecting Galleries and terrace for family gathering . Construction on going. Completion in June 2015.

7. Hotel at 3 Ilets, Martinique, French West-Indies Master planning and architectural scheme for redevelopment of the Kalinda Hotel on the 3 Ilets beach. Program of guest rooms, suites and cottages with retail, fine dining, sports and recreational facilities. 2014. Un-built.

8. Post Disaster relief housing Low cost and low tech dwelling units with earth bag and light roofing for immediate relief with a knock-down unit with metal frame and light panelling for sanitation and solar PV and thermal panels. For the flash flood affected settlements in Uttarakhand in June 2013.

9. 5 Houses in Chitrakutir Kalagram, Pen 4 Houses using Laurie Bakers load bearing exposed brick work / filler slab. One being a contemporary reinterpretation of the courtyard house.

9. Chennai Metro, Architectural design of 9 underground

stations in section 1 & 5 as consultants to FPI / PB. Design and detailing for interior architecture of the public areas of the and all the above ground structures. Sites include those in sensitive heritage precincts of Chennai like the Chennai Central Station and High Court. 2011-12

10. Jeevanvidya Dyanpeeth Campus, Phase 1, Karjat Design development and detailing of all structures of the Dyanpeeth Campus for Jeevanvidya Mission Trust based on conceptual design from Lead Architect Pradeep Tilaye, USA. A total of about 60,000 s.ft. Of BU area including Lecture halls, Accommodation, Prayer hall, Exhibition spaces etc. integrated in a landscaped environment to create a new ‘ashram’. Phase 1 handed over in April 2012. Phase 2 expected to start by end 2013.

11. JVM Centre, Navi Mumbai, Kamothe: G+5 building, about 15,000 s.ft. in Kamothe, Navi Mumbai including multipurpose hall, library & guest rooms. The design employs a PT slab with a clear span of 9.50m for the main multipurpose hall. Completion expected in May 2013.

12.Bungalow in Kamshet 3,000s.ft Expressive site and climate responsive design exploiting the natural setting & vistas. The design narrates a journey from the ‘material / object’ (solid stone wall) to the ‘immaterial / space’ (open vista-void). Completed Jan 2011.

13.Zenith Tins Factory Extension, Nerul Navi Mumbai,12,000 s.ft Innovative design solution for vertical extension of an existing and opertaional factory floor.. Feb 2011.

14. IT College for GPMT, Miraj, Maharashtra 45000m2 extension over an existing building with light pre-engineered structures as well as creation of a new block with an optimised structural grid that allows planning flexibility to the users. Oct 2011.

15.Konkan Railway Rail-Hotel in Ratnagiri for Sudarshan Gardens Pvt. Ltd. 2003-05. Budget traveller hotel, with 50 rooms, Multi-purpose Hall, Cafeteria, AC Restaurant and commercial space. Articulated composition deriving significance from the strategic corner location of the building.

16.Les Archives Régionale de la Sarthes, Le Mans, France. Collaborated with Bernard Trilles et Associés, 9 rue d’Arsonval, Paris 75015, for the prize winning competition entry. 1999-2002.

17.Kavedi Estate, Auroville, TN Landscape and Architectural design for Private estate on 3.5 acres. With innovative climate responsive design with a contemporary design idiom to the Villas of the French Town of Pondicherry. 2001-03.

18.LIG housing Design studies and research for improved site planning, climate response, space planning, structural systems, building material & construction to deliver optimum quality in restricted price.

19.Hotel & Service Apartments in Andheri, Mumbai for Kanakia Developers. 300 keys room & service apartments, with all the required support facilities and services for a 4-star property. 2002 (Unbuilt)

1. Consulate General of France & Trade commission 10,000 s.ft at BKC, Mumbai. Complete design (architectural + MEP) & Project management mission. Tightly planned space program in an odd & difficult floor plate. Completed in Aug 2010.

2. Studio for Renault Design India 2000 s.ft. at Marol,

Mumbai The design presented a unique blend of modern and traditional Indian style. Though the design studio had all the hi-tech facilities the ornately hand crafted wood & metal work were the project highlights providing an interesting contrast. Completed in 2008.

3. Natixis Bank & Natixis Pramex, Office in Free Press House, Nariman Point, Mumbai, Completed August 2007. Complete design and project management mission. Repeat in Maker 6 in Jan 2010.

4. Data Centre for Equity Bank, Nairobi, Kenya. Planning design and detailing for a Tier IV data centre in an existing building not designed for the purpose. As Architects for Choice Solution. 2009-2010.

5. French Consulate & Trade Commission, Mumbai, 7000 s.ft. 2004. Time bound Implementation in 60 days. Designed and executed to a high level security brief and specification within a very tight floor plate. A real challenge in planning, design & project management successfully delivered.

6. Reliance Industries Ltd., Hazira, Gujarat. Board room and support areas with state-of-art A/V and conferencing equipment. Permanent exhibition space for internal and external corporate communication. 6500 s.ft. Completed in August 2005.

7. Office of L’Oreal India Pvt. Ltd., Peninsula Towers, Lower Parel, Mumbai. 16,000 s.ft. Jan 2006- 08. Phased renovation of all departments of an operational corporate office. Including upgrading existing utilities as required.

8. Technical Centre & Sales Office for L’Oreal India Pvt. Ltd., Peninsula Towers, Lower Parel, Mumbai. 5000 s.ft. Complete mission of Planning, design & PMC. Project delivered in record of 60 days including design & construction. 2005.

9. Maison de la France, Nariman Point, Mumbai Complete design & PM services for 2000 s.ft. office for the French Tourism bureau. Completed in 2007.

10.Board Room, Golden Tobaco Company, Juhu, Mumbai. 2007. Interior works for the board room and ancillaries integrating all AV and automation for state of art conferencing.

11. Iyengar Yogashray, Lower Parel, Mumbai, 2003. Design of the yoga centre integrating all equipment and props design by Guruji.

12.Accenture Services Pvt. Ltd., Vikhroli, Mumbai 2001. Renovating an existing 25,000 s.ft. office facility to company standards, including upgrade & augmentation of utilities and creating new key spaces for conference rooms, reception area, cafeteria & server room. Time bound completion in 45 days.

13.Home Trade Ltd., Vashi International Infotech Park, Navi Mumbai. 2001. (unfinished) Integrated design for an 18,000 sq.ft. office for on-line financial services company. Including state of art conference facilities and restaurant.

14.Ways India Ltd., Vashi International Infotech Park, Navi Mumbai. 2000 Integrated design for an 20,000 s.ft. office for 200 software engineers, financial analysts and graphic designers etc. Time bound implementation in 60 days.

15.Arthur Andersen, 15,000 s.ft. Express Towers Nariman Point, Mumbai, 1999. Complete design & project management services. As per international standards of the firm.

16.Breach Candy Hospital, Extension works for existing NICU 2014. Planning for the Godrej Wing, Design and interior works for In-patients rooms in C-wing, Histo-Pathology Lab 2005-06 room at Breach candy Hospital. Planning as per space requirement and hospital standards.

As Principal Design Consultant to Frischmann Prabhu India, Mumbai, subsidiary of London based Pell Frischmann group. Design team leader between 2005-2008

1. British Deputy High Commission, Naman Centre, BKC,

Mumbai. 35,000 s.ft. offices & a 7000 s.ft. Landscaped terrace. Scope included design development, design coordination with MEP design, preparation of tender & construction documents as per the specification of FCO Services and scheme design by UK Architects Jordan & Bateman.

2. Master Planning of Chrysalis Enclave 9 acres site for a cluster of 6 buildings totaling 700,000 s.ft of Biotech lab space for TCG Developers in the International Bio-tech Park, Hingewadi, Pune. Scope included detailed planning as per applicable regulations and in coordination with detailed infrastructure planning & design.Optimum design in a highly challenging topography. Completed in October 2008.

3. Built-to-Suite Bio-tech Lab building in the Chrysalis Enclave. 100,000 s.ft of Biotech lab space for TCG Developers. Scope included detailed planning as per applicable regulations and in coordination with MEP design from concept design to construction drawings. Civil & architectural works complete in Jan 2008.

4. 9 underground & 1 elevated station for Delhi Metro Phase 2. Leading design and design coordination for the section between Udyog Bhavan & Qutub Minar. Responsibility included urban design studies, design development & detailing of conceptual studies from John McASlan Partners, UK, and design coordination with MEP design. Architectural Enhanced design scheme submitted in 2007.

1. Dadar Mahim Seafront development Design for 2kms public promenade along a urban beach. For MCGM / Maharashtra Maritime Board. 2013.

2. Jeevanvidya Dyanpeeth Campus Design development and detailing for 10.5 acres campus based on conceptual design by eKon design Inc. USA.. Campus includes Open Air Amphitheatre, meditation Garden, Acupuncture trail. Completed in 2012.

3. Amphitheatre & Community Centre at Chitrakutir Kalagram, Pen. Exploiting existing topography to fit the program- designed around a majestic banyan tree.

4. Gaimukh Bunder at-Thane Dist. Landscape and Architectural design for the landside development of a jetty on the Thane creek including public amenities and recreation areas Project is a part of a larger policy for development of local tourism and water based transit. For the Maharashtra Maritime Board.

5. Satya Sai Hospital Complex, Navi Mumbai, As master planning and landscape strategies for 50 acres multi-speciality medical campus including residential and educational components. As expert consultant to Hosmac India Ltd. (Unbuilt)

6. Multi-speciality hospital in Dwarka, Master-planning and landscape strategies inspired from the char-bagh concept of Mughal gardens for a luxury hospital aimed at medical tourism. As expert consultant to Hosmac India Ltd. (Unbuilt)

7. Kavedi Estate, Integrated planning of a private estate including residential and other specific components like a Dojo (zen archery), swimming pool, guest rooms etc. Completed in 1999-2000.

PROJECTS : LANDSCAPE

Over the years and very occasionally we have been involved in art-direction and set design. Some of the projects are:

1. Renault Stand in the Delhi Auto expo in Jan2010 with Display House & Expomobilia. Design and detailing as per the international charter of Renault. A truly multinational endeavour with execution team from India, China, & Europe.

2. Exhibition Space for Reliance Plastoindia 2009.Space for internal and external corporate communication. Displaying various retails brands.

3. Loins of Punjab: Pre-production art direction for Indo-American feature film (2006) produced by ‘Horn Okay Please’, directed by Manish Acharya.

4. Home Trade Campaign: For Horizons Ad agency (2000). Featuring Hrithik Roshan in his personal Gym and Shahrukh Khan in a futuristic home

5. LG Mobiles: For Horizons Ad agency (2000). Advertisement featuring Katrina Kaif in a jewel shop. Set erected in Film City- Goregaon

6. Shop-in-shop counter and RIM Booth as product designers to Display House.Reliance was considering various options for the launch of its CDMA mobile phone services in India.

7. A multipurpose ‘idiot-proof’ installation for PR & customer interaction that could be installed in public places like airports, hotel lobby, trade-fairs etc.

8. Omphalos Hotel: by French playwright Jean Michel Ribes, produced at the Theatre de la Cite Universitaire de Nanterre (1989).
