The division between the traditional farm and the community is resolved in this solution by combining an urban park and community center with a farm. It is in this way that a sense of unity can be fostered in the surrounding neighborhood, at the same time providing sustainable food. This center for urban farming can be seen as an example for the rest of New York City where both sustainable food and green space are scarce.

aeroponicsAll food for the café is grown on site. The columns supporting the roof of the café simulate a tree with vegetation growing from it, using aeroponic techniques. Once ripe, the food on the columns can be picked and served in the café.
compostingTo generate electricity, methane gas is collected from compost that sits in an airtight tank. The collected gas is then burned in an engine that runs an electrical generator.
plaza/educationl hubThe plaza slopes for rainwater collection, which is then used for agricultural irrigation. It also slopes down into the educational hub, which is located underground. The educational hub houses the lobby, four classrooms, two lecture halls, offices, a lab for students, and a lab for aquaponics. All underground spaces are lit by lightwells, some functioning as benches at the park level.

The ocean and the beaches have become a signature of Miami as a coastal city. This proposal for a transportation center embraces the motion of water that come from the waves of the Florida beaches. The rythmic breaking of the waves over sheals provides a powerful backdrop for a building centered around movement.

The layers of program are covered by a large skin of lightweight concrete slabs and tinted glass. The form of the skin captures the movement of the water, symbolizing the movement of the trains and buses.
This transportation center is not only meant to be experienced by train-riders, but it also offers a wide range of shops and restaurants for the local community. It is a destination on itself.
The outer shell not only provides a filter for the sunlight, but it also facilitates gray water collection. As the rain falls on the shell, it is guided into the concrete sheaths and into an underground cistern

The Watertaxi Stand is designed not only as a place for waiting, but a common place for gathering. With a restaurant on the second floor, a cafe, and an open plaza, it invites tourists and locals to stop and enjoy Miami’s beautiful waterfront.

Water has always been a symbol of Miami with its beautiful beaches and endless waterfronts. The proposal or this seaplane base is inspired by the movement of the ocean’s waves as they reach the coast with the landing seaplanes.
The building evokes the movement of water in plan, section and elevation. The natural flow of water reates a change in height which allow to show hierarchy within the building.

Lighting and Design
The lighting system was chosen to further reinforce the concept of the fluidity of water.
The pendant light fixtures are placed in accordance to the building structure, which is more rigid. The LED panels, on the other hand, follow the curvature of the plan, emphasizing the fluidity of the building across the roof. section detail

wadi rum, jordan - fall 2012desert lodgeThe beauty of the vast desert remains intact by creating an undergroung lodge that appears to be carved in by the wind.
A large arrival plaza is centered by a grand camp fire that welcomes the tourists to the site, providing hidden stables and staff dormitories to its side. The grid then extends from this arrival point and creates smaller plazas from which the underground dormitories radiate.

Arab textils and patterns were analysed and broken down to create a grid what would allow a sense of unity and organization within the site, while honoring the culture of the surrounding areas.
