project 1: The object of this project was to create a sequence of spaces that lead up a wooden arma-ture. The assignment called for the investigation of spaces through the folding of planes using sheet metal. Also the spaces were designed in relation to a dancer’s movement of his leg.

concept 1: The spacial rhythm and sequence is similar to the dancer’s rotation of his leg backwards and around going from an inside to outside position. As one moves up the path there is a constant feeling of tension and anxiety created by the expansion and contraction of the spaces as well as the play of light which fi lters downs and suggest the point of release.

project 2: The assignment was to design three elements of a dwelling, the entrance, stairs and porch based off of a fi ctitious client from a short story. The dwelling is in a complex surrounded by two other houses.

concept 2: The character of this dwelling was a notorious gangster that had a secret softer side, which was a love for pets. The concept for this project was that the main residence is hidden away in an under-ground complex while the front is only a huge false facade. All the elements were designed to conceal the presences of the character which will allow him privacy.

undergraduate

structure + investigation project: The object was to construct a double cantilever structure, out of solid square mild steel sec-tions, that would have the highest possible strength to weight ratio when loaded evenly from both side. To test its effectiveness the structure was put in a device that gradually put stress on it until it failed. This experiment was conducted three times, after each one, a detail analysis was done to assess the weak-ness and strenght of the structure in order to improved the effi cency of the subequent model.

test 1: The structure failed due to the bending of the cantilevered arms under compression forces

test 2: The cantilevered arms were strengthen by using a diamond shaped structure that resisted bend-ing in the arms considerably. However, the failure was at the tip of the right arm.

test 3: The structure was lightened and refi ned using triangulation of the trusses. It again failed at the same point. This maybe as a result of the unequal loading or inconsistences in construction.
