OVERVIEW

In the heart of the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world, Damascus, we started our practice. SUBOL (the tradi-tional drinking fountains) was founded to enrich the culture and quench the design thirstiness. SUBOL (“ways” is another meaning) was founded to find sev-eral ways and possibilities to meet the needs of people, needs that may be spiritual as well as being material.Our young and, at the same time, experienced team who is coming from various designing background and had worked on several big projects at the best practices in the region has joined together trying to rethink working space, architecture and urban space. Our goal is to make a distinctive impact on humans, as they are the core of our design, and the culture.

“SOBOL” believes that Design has the ability to improve the quality of people lives. Our design process considers client needs, the social aspect and the environmental impact of the final outcome. We provide design solutions across multiple disciplines. SERVICES

After graduating from Damascus University, Architecture faculty in 2010, Houssam has started his professional career at Lacasa-Target. While working there, he has participated in large projects such as a retail shopping mall, a fashion house, and a healthcare centre among many others. He was fully responsible for the design development and tender documents stages for the Syrian Insurance Federation headquarters. In 2013 he has worked with ART-WARE on several commercial and residential projects in Amman, Jordan and Doha, Qatar.Houssam co-founded SUBOL DESIGN in 2014, and is a Managing Partner and Principle Architect at SUBOL DE-SIGN. He believes that architecture is driven by the needs of people, needs that may be spiritual as well as being material. His philosophy is clearly shown in all of his designs. With SUBOL DESIGN team, Houssam is trying to add meanings to life as well as improving the quality of the city and the culture throw DESIGN.

The Extend-able Tower

The brief was to design a middle class residential environmental building. The design should be used several times according to the urban plan and the apartment areas were set to be between 70 m2 to 160 m2. We considered all that in mind, at the same time, we thought beyond the brief trying to rethink several cultural requirements. We believe that our role was to solve problems such as distinguishing between culture classes, the apartment prices and the ability for each family to extend. Our design is simply a 20 storey building, each storey consisted of two 70 m2 apartment. Every apartment has the ability to extend vertically and horizontally even after the finish of the tower construction. The apartments could extend from 70 m2 into, 90, 110, 140, 210, 280 and 360 m2 in variety forms which meets the culture needs of all classes and, at the same time, create variation in building elevations so each tower is different from the other even though they all have the same structure. Hill Villa

In one of the most beautiful Damascus Suburbs, the villa located on small hill with a wonderful view on mountains. The project is a basement and two storey building with a total buildup area of 500 m², all functions were divided on two storey. A large living room, a dining room, kitchen, bathroom and a garage is located on the ground floor, while the master bedroom, two kids’ bedrooms, a bathroom, a small kitchen and a living area is located on the second floor. Local materials, stone, wood, glass and metal, were used. The concept was to create a modern rural family house that reflects the spirit of the location. INTERIOR

LAMASAT

Architecture begins with the menu. In this project “LAMASAT” only a certain amount of per-prepared food is used. Work in the kitchen itself is greatly reduced. By outsourcing such preparatory work and parts of the processing to a large central kitchen, only a few of the working processes will remain in the shop. LAMASAT tiny 10 m² shop is based on the concept of regenerative kitchen. We wanted a small “customizable” shop, trying to benefit from the small area as possible, allowing easy reconfiguration of a small space and serve the client’s diverse set of needs.

R-Apartment

We proposed a modern design for an engineer who works in printing industry. The apartment is170 square meters, a master bedroom, children’s room, large living room, a kitchen and a bath- room. The ceiling height is 4 meters, we benefits from that height in both the kitchen and the .children’s room by making them two levels

Tamkeen Office

Luxurious office in Tamkeen Tower, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The office was divided into two wings. While the reception area and the meeting room were set the middle, the right wing designed for the stuff and the left one was designed for the high management,. The use of the materials changes as the function changes throughout the office. Wood, marble, glass and white panting all put together in a harmony as you move all around the office.

WAVES

Five cabinets with different sizes in a wavy shape create a modular wave. The used material is wood with white and walnut textures.
