ORLANDO MIXED-USE HOTELGRAD 1 / FALL 2009

Page 3: Architectural Portfolio

This project was located in the city of Orlando, FL adjacent to a major highway overpass. The city was looking to revitalize the area near and below the overpass with the addition of a mixed use hotel building. The program called for a 350 room hotel with retail at the ground level, and space for a children’s museum, ice rink. The proposed structure would have a large open plaza level that seves as an overflow space for the arena across the street, while the public programs are organized around an elevated plaza space. The hotel space flows around an open atrium that connects down to the public programs below.

SITE

Page 7: Architectural Portfolio

The site selected for this project is the final block of the high line. This unique site allows for interaction at both the ground level as well as at an elevated plane. The ground level up to the level of the high line will be occupied by a recreation center that is open to the public, while above the high line will be residential units. The recreation activities will be housed under and protruding through a terraced greenscape that will cover the site and be accessible from the ground and the high line. This will visually connect the site to the parks being created along the piers on the other side of the West Side Highway.

This project was located in the city of Charleston, SC and was programed to serve as an arts complex during the annual Spoletto festival. The 20,000 sf building contains an entry garden, art gallery, auditorium, dorms for the visiting artists and office space for administration. All of the main program elements are connected through the use of a double height glass atrium.

The Savannah row house is an important style of architecture that is rooted in the history of the city. The program of this project takes the typical row house measurements and applies it to a more public program; a meeting center. The building will contain meeting spaces and display spaces, as well as some more individual areas from quiet reflection.

REDEVELOPMENT MASTERPLAN OF ALACHUA GENERAL HOSPITAL SITEGAINESVILLE, FL / GRAD 2 (TEAM: Ashley Cino, Liz Desmond, Allison Angle, Jim Frey

Page 13: Architectural Portfolio

This Alachua General Hospital has been an integral part of the community for many years however it is no longer functional as a hospital and is being demolished. The goal was to create a masterplan that would respect the history of the site while helping to fill a void in the area. The proposal includes a variety of uses including an important pedestrian retail corridor, an extended stay hotel, housing, office space, technology center and a community center. Ample parking in both traditional garages and automated garages is also provided. The various uses are knitted together by green spaces that weave throughout the site.

THE HYDRATED

CITY

Page 19: Architectural Portfolio

The traditional housing in the Beijing area of China is a type of development called the Hutong, it is a series of densly packed small dwellings separted by narrow alley ways. The Chinese government has started to try to eliminate these areas in order to present a more modern, developed face to the rest of the world. This is causing mass displacement of residents and destroying part of the cultural identity of the people. This masterplan would help to retain that cultural identity while infusing new life into the area. The area would function as a model of sustainability that would provide new industry jobs, tourism and educational opportunities.

NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY EVANS SCHOLARSHIP HOUSEEVANSTON, IL / PANTO-ULEMA ARCHITECTS

Page 23: Architectural Portfolio

This project was an addition and complete renovation of the existing Evans Scholarship House in the historic south quad of Northwestern University. The addition would increase total occupancy to 45 students while improving the energy efficiency of the structure. I joined the project during design development and worked continuously on it through completion on construction documents. The scope of my work included site measurements/verifications, detailing, structural and MEP coordination and document production.

CAMP CRYSTAL LAKE DESIGN BUILDGRAD 3 / FALL 2010

Page 31: Architectural Portfolio

Camp Crystal lake in a non-profit educational camp that serves the Alachua County school district. Students are first introduced to the camp in second grade and again in fifth grade when they take part in an overnight trip. The camp teaches students about nature while promoting teamwork and self esteem. As a team we designed a toilet room, shower area and changing room that would be constructed using donated materials and funds. Due to the nature of the donated supplies we developed a unique double skin that was composed of multiple smaller pieces allowing for ventilation through the structure. The chaging room is constructed nearby and the elements are connected by a boardwalk.
