Architectural Concepts It is the designers way of

responding to the design situation presented. They have been the means of translating the non-physical problem into the physical building product.

Some categories under which the concerns and issues of a building may be listed and addressed in design are :

1. Functional Zoning2. Architectural Space3. Circulation and Building Form4. Building Envelope

Page 4: ARCHITECTURAL CONCEPTS

Building concerns & issues:

1. Functional Zoning - is a term used to describe the phenomenon when buildings of the same function cluster together in an area of a city or town. Sometimes zoning laws require that uses be concentrated in a particular area.

Building concerns & issues:

2. Architectural Space – it means that the design must be spatially relevant to social use of architecture.

Building concerns & issues:

3. Circulation and Building Form - refers to the way people move through and interact with a building that is interrelated to the form of the building.

Building concerns & issues:4. Building Envelope - is the area

that separates conditioned space from unconditioned space or the outdoors. Building envelope components separate conditioned spaces from unconditioned spaces or from outside air.
