Architect Bahamas

The ArchitectJohn W. McCardy, founder and Principal Architect of Architect Bahamas Ltd. (formerly The Architect’s Workshop Ltd), was born and spent his formative years in the quaint settlement of Alice Town, Eleuthera, Bahamas.

John is a graduate of the College of the Bahamas (A.A., 1986) and the Howard University School of Architecture (B. Arch, 1990). He began his training in Architecture at the office of Minns Architecture, Nassau, Bahamas and while studying to obtain his professional architectural degree at Howard University, he worked with the world renowned architectural firm, HDR in Alexandria, Virginia.

In 1991 John returned home and worked as an associate at one of the Bahamas’ leading architectural firms. After two years he embraced the opportunity to make an indelible mark, as a master builder, in the Bahamian architectural/construction arena by forming his own design-build company with the center of operation based in Governor’s Harbour, Eleuthera.

Responsive to the need for mentorship within his field, John continually grasps the opportunity to train and guide young architects-in-training, taking them under his tutelage and helping to mold them into some of the brightest minds within the Bahamian architectural vernacular today. Recognizing that the right people are the most valuable asset to his business, he still assumes this vital role of sourcing and teaching some of the finest students of architecture. Spreading his imprint of excellence across the length and breadth of the beautiful collection of Bahama Islands, he demands nothing less than the best from those who work under the umbrella of his management and training.

John has worked in the construction industry practically his entire life, initially under the tutorship of his father and older brothers. He began his own construction company as an integral part of his comprehensive services and gained a reputation for producing only the best design solutions and craftsmanship while employing the most proficient tradesmen.

John has also gained the invaluable trust of many long term clients who have engaged his services to execute “turn-key” contracts for their projects and he has attained the remarkable reputation of being a client’s best advocate on projects he has designed, supervised, constructed or managed, from inception to completion.
