The first arrows flew toward their targets at the new archery range, which features a covered structure that allows for up to 10 campers to shoot bows in any type of weather.

An elevated platform simulates a tree stand’s shooting position. Life-like 3-D targets complete the simulation. The range is kept safe with an archery curtain designed to contain er-rant arrows. The success of this project is due to the enthusiastic support, technical assistance, and volunteer labor of the following people.

You are invited to an Open House at Barry Camp on Saturday, May 18 from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. Come see the newly expanded dining hall, send a few arrows down range, and explore the grounds. Spend some time at camp and feel like a kid again. A few hours of North Country air will do you good.

Light refreshments will be served.

The expanded dining hall will receive a number of new tables and chairs this spring allowing an additional 40 campers, staff, guests, and volun-teers to share their meals together. These tables also provide work surfaces for fly tying, map and compass activities, and firearms cleaning.

The funds for the furnishings came from a new philanthropic group from Concord, NH, named Guys Who Give a $*** and Kinnicum Fish and Game. A heartfelt thank you!

A fter significant planning and a lot of work, the much anticipated expansion

of the dining hall is complete.

The need for more room became clear when counselors and volunteers began standing or eating meals outside of the dining hall. The increased number of coun-selors per session and the ever growing support from volunteers pushed the space beyond capacity.

The new addition doubles the size of the dining hall. Wall-height windows and doors link the old and new sections together. The spaces can be separated by closing doors and windows creating two separate classrooms.

Fundraising for this project began in the summer of 2016, and donations to the project started to flow in. The Wildlife

Heritage Foundation of New Hamp-shire was instrumental in these fund-raising efforts. The Founda-tion was also able to secure a matching grant from the Neil and Louse Tillot-son Fund.

This project was a perfect fit for both Barry Camp and the Tillotson Fund. The Tillot-sons are champions of New Hampshire’s North Country. We invite you to see the expansion for yourself on May 18 at the Open House.

Expansion Project

Do you know any young adults age 18–24 who love the outdoors and are looking for a great summer job? Barry Conservation Camp (BCC) has several openings for counselors and we need help recruiting the right individuals. We are looking for

counselors who have genuine interest and experience in hunting, fishing, and the

shooting sports. Candidates also need to have a strong work ethic and an interest

in working with youth. Please give it some thought and refer any potential applicants to

the BCC employment webpage.

Barry Conservation 4-H Camp (BCC) recorded yet another ter-rific season in 2018. Visitors to BCC last summer were always

greeted with the smiling faces of campers and staff. Youth were outdoors and unplugged and getting dirty. That’s what camp is all about, and the 2018 season was as good as it gets. Although every week has a specific theme, there are some common activi-ties for each session. Just about every session includes shoot-ing sports, fishing, hunting skills, survival, canoeing, swimming, overnight camping, hiking, campfires, storytelling, and more. Our evaluations tell us that there is a lot that campers like about

BCC...including the food! Linda Nadeau’s cooking has made her a true BCC legend. How many summer camps can say that?

The BCC staff worked hard to change things up and their cre-ativity really showed. For example, there were some phenomenal field trips as campers got out and explored the North Country with visits to some great (top secret) locations. Our staff also pride

themselves on creating a positive youth development environment at BCC. Campers

are there because they want to be and they are learning and doing things that they love. Combine that with the special climate and culture and BCC seems to bring out the very best in kids. No doubt about it, BCC is a magical place!

Barry Camp FundMajor projects are now complete at camp. But New Hampshire’s only conser-vation camp needs your help. The Barry Camp Forever Fund will ensure that all camp needs are secured for generations to come. Help us reach our fundraising goal of $150,000.

This fund will be there for all the main-tenance, upgrades in response to code changes, emergency repairs, and much more. The Barry Camp Forever Fund is the only source of financing for maintain-ing the physical property of the camp.

Please join with others in helping the fund reach this goal.

A fter camp closes for the summer, grown-ups get to come have fun at Barry Camp too! Some

25 recent Hunter Education graduates attended a delicious weekend in September learning how to prepare wild game. The event is not only a hands-on learning and tasting experience, but it raises funds for the operation of Barry Camp. A big thanks goes out to the dedicated volunteers who work to plan and present the weekend.
