Las Posadas offers an opportunity to reflect on the story of the Holy Family searching for shelter

that is part of the journey of immigrants today seeking compassionate comprehensive immigration

reform. Parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago celebrate this uniquely Mexican tradition in

different ways. We are inviting parishes to pray for immigration reform as they celebrate Posadas.

Just as Mary and Joseph did not know when, where or who would give them shelter, we do not

know when undocumented immigrants will have “legislative” shelter - immigration reform even

after there was some hope after the Senate passed its proposal this year. We are people of faith who

are called to seek God’s light during times of darkness. Let us join immigrants in the search for light

and justice. See below for dates and times to join in this journey of hope and experience this rich

celebration of joy, Las Posadas, in the coming of Christ into our lives and our society. For more in-

caridad de Dios Espíritu Santo, como el amor necesario

para orar por las personas que están en contra de inmi-

grantes-y amarlos como tu los amas.

Dios de paz, amor y justicia, ayúdanos a seguir caminan-

do contigo en este camino de esperanza junto con nues-

tros Obispos, sacerdotes, religiosos/as y laicos para lo-

grar cambios legislativos en este país en el cual pedimos

Posada.

Loving and Gracious God, open our hearts to welcome the

stranger in our midst, the Mary’s and Josephs of today,

who in their journey flee poverty, oppression, persecution,

and violence.

As you open your arms to receive us, help us embrace to-

day’s immigrants as members of your family. Dispel our

fear, prejudice, doubt and suspicion of them.

Break down the barriers in our hearts and minds, and help

us see the presence of the Lord in everyone who suffers.

Help us by your grace,

- to receive each of your children as our own brother and sister;

- to welcome the stranger with joy and generosity; - to resist all efforts that blame the poor and seek to

expel them from our midst. - to defend the family against the powers that would

divide it. - to share the abundance we have received with those

who struggle to survive. - to join with all people of good will to build your reign

of peace and justice on this earth. - to open the hearts of our country’s government offi-

cials so that they too may recognize the need for comprehensive immigration reform.
