Archangels Catholic Cluster
2 | WELCOME TO THE ARCHANGELS CATHOLIC CLUSTER
Lenten Regulations on Fast and Abstinence
Ash Wednesday, February 14, marks the beginning of Lent. The follow fasting and abstinence regulations are observed: Abstinence from meat is observed on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all Fridays of Lent by all Catholics 14 years and older. Fasting is observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by all Catholics who are 18 years of age but not yet 59. Those bound by this rule may take only one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted as necessary to maintain strength, but eating solid foods between meals is not permitted. The special Paschal fast and abstinence are observed on Good Friday and, where possible, Holy Saturday. On these days, Christians prepare themselves by these disciplines to renew their baptismal commitment on Easter. From its earliest days, the Church has urged the baptized and the catechumens to observe the threefold discipline of fasting, almsgiving, and prayer as a preparation for the celebration of Easter. Failure to observe individual days of penance is not considered serious, but failure to observe any penitential days at all or a substantial number of such days must be considered serious. During Lent, the Church encourages attendance at daily Mass, self-imposed times of fasting, and generosity to local, national, and worldwide programs of sharing or almsgiving.

Safe Environment Training for Children: Under the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, all dioceses in the United States have agreed to offer age-appropriate safe environment training for children. The safe environment training program at our Archangels Catholic Cluster will be offered to Grades 1, 3, 6, 9 and 11, Jan 17 through March 7, 2018, one Wednesday evening during regular class time. Protection of Children – Parent News Notes: The Archdiocese of Dubuque Office for the Protection of Children provides a five part series of parent News Notes. The purpose of these publications is to help all of us be more informed of the issues and topics related to the abuse of children. It is our sincere hope that by partnering together we can continually provide the safest possible environment for all our young people to grow into healthy, Christ-filled adults. The SETFC materials and Parent News Notes # 1-4 can be viewed at the Archangels Catholic Cluster Website http://www.archangelscc.org/ . Look under the Protection of Children heading.

Looking for Ways to Pray and Fast during Lent? Look to “40 Days for Life!”
40 Days for Life is a focused pro-life campaign with a vision to access God’s power through prayer, fasting, and peaceful vigil to end abortion. Since the first coordinated 40 Days for Life campaign took place in 2007 through the end of 2017: 3,998 lives saved from abortion, 170 abortion workers quit their job and 90 abortion facilities closed. This is a 40 day campaign, February 14-March 25 and we are calling on people of faith across the nation … and around the world … to fall on their knees before the Lord, asking Him to hear our plea and heal our land. Pray outside an abortion facility. Pray at church. Pray at work. Pray in the car. Pray at home with your family. During the campaign you can receive daily devotionals that focus on Women who are at risk of having an abortion, Innocent children who are at risk of perishing, Men and women who carry the pain of a past abortion experience, Workers at Planned Parenthood facilities and abortion centers, local, regional, and national leaders, Revival and renewal in our churches, Repentance and healing throughout our nation. Visit: www.fortydaysforlife.com for more info and to sign-up for daily devotional emails and join us as we seek God’s favor to turn hearts and minds from a culture of death to a culture of life, thus bringing an end to abortion.
St. Boniface - Knights of Columbus donated $700.00 to the Down Syndrome Association of North Central Iowa. Thank you to all who helped with the breakfast. Also, thank you to all who attended and gave a generous donation. Your generosity is much appreciated!
February 11, 2018. St. James Respect Life committee, Knights of Columbus and Parish Life committee, will serve a lunch in Cigrand Hall after Mass, honoring the new members during 2017. There will be no fee for this lunch. Everyone is invited to attend and meet the new members.

RCIA—Expand and strengthen your faith of what the Catechism of the Catholic Church really teaches, each Wednesday from 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM. This week’s class, February 7, 2018, the discussion will be: “ Chapter 17 & 18 - Foundations of Catholic Morality and Social Justice”.
From the desk of Fr. Jim
As we get ready for our Lenten Season to begin, I encourage all parishioners to prayerfully consider attending a special bible study on the Book of Revelations. The study will begin on the first week of Lent, February 19, and continue through the Easter Season. There will be a break during Holy Week and Easter week. The Book of Revelations is one the most misunderstood books of the Bible for Catholics. This study will put the Catholic teaching on the book upfront. Many Catholics believe that this book supports the media’s view of the “Rapture” that Catholics will be “left behind on Earth” when Jesus returns. This view is not Catholic and until about 100 years ago was not support-ed by most Christian churches. The Lenten bible study will be the usual three options each week of study. You can attend on Monday at 6:30 PM at Duncan, or Tuesday at 6:30 PM at Forest City, or Thursday at 1:00 PM in Garner. You only should attend one session each week. Please make this a special Lent and Easter season with the Archangels Catholic Cluster bible study on the Book of Revelations!!!
DAILY MASS CANCELLATIONS: In the event that school is delayed or cancelled due to weather conditions, the morning and noon Masses will be cancelled for the day unless weather condition allows Fr. to get there. In Garner and Forest City the priest will still celebrate Mass and if travel is safe, you are welcome to join them. Use good common sense. If school is cancelled or dismissed early due to weather conditions, the daily afternoon Masses at Duncan, Forest City, Lake Mills and Britt will be cancelled. Cancelation will be posted on the web site, for afternoon daily Masses. For funerals, only if the Mass is in the same parish as the funeral.
