INTRODUCTION

Arcadia Advocates is a partnership of Advocates assisted by several legal associates serving numerous clients in Uganda and East Africa. Since our set up, we have served several individuals and clients in diverse sectors, ranging from profit-oriented concerns to welfare based international and national NGOs and Government agencies. We are highly experienced in addressing the peculiar needs of each one of our clients.

The founding partners; Francis Gimara, Sylvester Henry Wambuga, Isaac Bakayana, Robert Bautu and Paul Kuteesa despite having practised successfully as individuals in the past felt that the needs of their clients would be better served if they brought their practices under one roof. This need resulted into the merger of M B Gimara Advocates, SYBA Associated Advocates and Paul Kuteesa from Kampala Associated Advocates into what is known today as Arcadia Advocates.

The set up at Arcadia Advocates is without doubt a response to the demand from Clients who want to receive quicker, specialized and quality legal services under one roof.

Francis holds an LLM from Cambridge University, a Bachelor of Laws from Makerere University (Kampala, Uganda) and a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre (Kampala, Uganda). He also has a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from Edinburgh Business School (Herriot Watt University).

Francis is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda and all the Courts subordinate thereto. He has participated in several commercial transactions, consultancies and undertaken litigation on behalf of his clients in many forums including the East African Court of Justice.

Francis is also a member of several Boards of key Companies and Organizations in Uganda. He is a member of Uganda Law Society, the East African Law Society, the Pan African Lawyers Union and the International Bar Association.

Isaac has a wealth of experience in undertaking both litigation and transactional work for major financial institutions in Uganda. Isaac is a known Banking and Finance Lawyer and he is well respected by the internal teams of the institutions we serve because of his ability to connect the law to the business needs of these institutions.

Isaac holds a Masters in Law degree from Warwick University, Bachelor of Laws from Makerere University and a Diploma in Legal Practice Law Development Centre.

Isaac is also lectures at the school of law, Makerere University.

Isaac is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda and all Courts subordinate thereto. He is a Member of the Uganda Law Society and the East Africa Law Society.

Ann Namara-Musinguzi Ann holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Makerere University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal practice from Law Development Centre in Kampala.

Ann is a Senior Legal Associate at the firm in the Banking and Finance Department.

Adams Byarugaba

Georgina Kirabo

Georgina is a holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from Makerere University and a Diploma in Legal Practice from Law Development Centre.

Georgina is a Legal Associate in the Banking and Finance Department. She has interest in banking law and practice, commercial law, and land law. Email: [email protected]



The team is headed by Sylvester Henry Wambuga a seasoned commercial law practitioner in Uganda.Henry holds a Master’s Degree in Law (Insurance & Insolvency Practice) from Makerere University. Prior to that, Henry had completed his Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (Bar Course) at Law Development centre.

Henry is also currently a lecturer in law at Law Development Center where he serves as the Head of the Commercial Transactions Team. In this capacity, he has also been instrumental in developing the Commercial Law syllabus for the Bar Course, on top of carrying out research at the Centre.

He is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda and all Courts subordinate thereto. He is a Member of the Uganda Law Society and the East Africa Law Society.

Henry Sylvester Wambuga, PartnerTeam Leader Commercial,Corporate & Insurance Practice Team

We offer full-scale corporate and commercial law services to support individuals and entities undertaking corporate and commercial transactions.

This team handles all our work related to Business startups, mergers and acquisitions, employment and employee benefits, commercial dispute resolution, Intellectual Property (Trademarks, Patents, and Copyrights), Insurance,Taxation, Telecommunications, and Insolvency. The Key team members are:



Atim Sheilla Gloria

Sheilla holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Makerere University in Uganda and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, Kampala, Uganda.

She also holds a Diploma in Taxation from the East African School of Taxation, Kampala.

Sheilla’s practice covers Corporate Transactions, Intellectual Property, Taxation Law, Immigration and Citizenship Law.

Martha Timugiibwa

Martha holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Makerere University in Uganda and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, Kampala, Uganda.

Martha is a Legal Associate attached to our Corporate and Commercial Law Department.

Her practice covers Non-Governmental Organisations, Insolvency, Insurance and Intellectual Property Law.


Jordan Rodney Kinyera

Jordan holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from Uganda Christian University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre in Kampala.

Jordan is a Legal Associate with the firm and his practice covers taxation, Land, Employment, Tort, Finance, conveyance and Family law.




Paul holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Makerere University in Uganda and a Post Graduate Diploma in legal practice from the Law Development Centre, Kampala, Uganda.

Paul is the Head of the Energy Law team. He is a very experienced transactional and litigation lawyer. He was for a very long time the litigation pointsman for Kampala Associated Advocates before joining Arcadia Advocates.

Tracy Basiima

Tracy holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Makerere University in Uganda and a Post Graduate Diploma in legal practice from the Law Development Centre, Kampala, Uganda.

Robert holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Makerere University in Uganda and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, Kampala, Uganda.

Robert is a specialist in procedural law and is equally well versed with the workings of governmental regulatory bodies. Robert has a knack of successfully executing litigation assignments and he heads the Litigation Team at Arcadia Advocates.

To ensure appropriate support to all other departments the general and litigation department was set up. The key team members are:



Allan Paul Nyakahuma

Allan holds Bachelor of Laws from Makerere University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre in Kampala.

Allan is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda and a Senior Legal Associate at the firm. Allan is particularly experienced in criminal litigation.


Mulongo Peter Lameka

Peter holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Uganda Christian University in Uganda and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, Kampala, Uganda.

Peter is an Associate attached to the general practice department and handles most of our real estate and conveyancing work.

Peter is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda and all Courts subordinate thereto. He is a Member of the Uganda Law Society and the East Africa Law Society.


Henry Nyegenye Henry holds Bachelor of Laws Degree in Law from Makerere University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre in Kampala.

Henry is a Legal Associate with the firm. He presently works in our Litigation department. His practice covers Land, Tort, conveyancing and Family law. Email: [email protected]



CONSULTANTS

Zachary Lomo, Legal Consultant

Zachary is a graduate of Harvard Law School (LL.M). He also holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Makerere University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre in Kampala.

Zachary is the Head of the consultancy wing at the Firm. He previously worked as Acting Dean, School of Law, College of Law & Business, St. Augustine International University, Kampala, Uganda. Mr. Lomo directed the Refugee Law Project of the School of Law, Makerere University from 2001 to 2006, raising it from obscurity to international repute. He is very familiar with the NGO world and he brings very practical experience to firm assignments.

Zachary is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda and all Courts subordinate thereto. He is a Member of the Uganda Law Society and the East Africa Law Society.

Jacqueline Pimer, Legal Consultant

Jacqueline holds a Masters in Law in International Law and Economics from World Trade Institute – University of Bern, Switzerland, a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre.

Jacqueline has considerable experience in project coordination, consultancy and research. Her expertise in Trade Law and Policy has enabled the firm undertake key assignments in this area with the World Bank / International Finance Corporation.

Jacqueline is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda and all Courts subordinate thereto. She is a Member of the Uganda Law Society and the East Africa Law Society.
