Orthopaedic Case DaysSeptember 21 – 23, 2013 · Weilerswist-Müggenhausen, Germany

Participants will see experts in the diagnosis and treatment of orthopaedic diseases working up routine clinical lameness.The instructors will discuss their approaches, diagnosis and treatment options as they work up the cases. In addition a third day will provide participants with the opportunity to improve their own skills under the surveillance of the experts!

Practical work (Equine Clinic, Weilerswist-Müggenhausen)

09:00 –18:00 Clinical lameness examination, radiographic and ultra -sonographic evaluation of lameness in horses Instructors: Andy Bathe, Kevin Keegan, Werner JahnWe will work on lameness cases at the equine clinic. The day will bedivided into three sessions of 120 minutes each. In each of the ses-sions a new case is presented, but the group of participants changes(so the participants get an opportunity to experience each of the in-structors); Horses will undergo routine clinical exam (including diag-nostic anaesthesia as necessary), radiography, ultrasound, etc.Scintigraphic and magnetic resonance images of the horses will beavailable on some cases.

Your Instructors

Andy Bathegraduated from Cambridge University Veterinary School in 1989. He trained in surgery at the University of Bristol and then at Rossdale and Partners in Newmarket.After working as University Equine Surgeon at the Queen’s Veterinary School Hospi-tal, University of Cambridge he returned to Rossdales to head the Equine Sports Injuries Clinic, where he is now a partner. He is a Diplomate of the European Collegeof Veterinary Surgeons and holds the RCVS Diploma in Equine Orthopaedics. Hehas been an eventing and showjumping team vet, and was a veterinary clinical expert for the 2012 Olympics in London. His main areas of expertise lie in ortho -paedic surgery and lameness, especially in the competition horse.

Kevin Keeganis presently Professor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery at the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine and Director of the E. Paige Laurie EndowedProgram in Equine Lameness. He graduated in 1983 of the University of MissouriCollege of Veterinary Medicine. He was in private equine practice in Delaware andMaryland from 1983–1986 and completed an equine surgery residency and mas-ters degree in Veterinary Clinical Medicine at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 1986–1989. He returned to private equine practice in Michiganfor one year before returning to the University of Missouri as a faculty member in1990. He is the founder of Equinosis® and serves as a consultant to Equinosis™to manage ongoing research and development that is contracted to the College ofVeterinary Medicine at the University of Missouri.

Werner Jahn finished his study of veterinary medicine at the Veterinary University of Hannover in 1982. Thereafter he worked in different equine veterinary practices and clinicsand became board certified equine specialist in 1996. He founded in 1993 theequine clinic Bargteheide. He is member of the Equine Radiography Commission in Germany and consults for the Holsteiner and Trakehner Horse breeding associa-tions. His fields of interest are surgery, orthopaedics and sports medicine.

Workshops (Equine Clinic, Weilerswist-Müggenhausen)

08:30 Participants will work with the instructors for 120 minutes to improveone skill selected. Interested participants should select at least 4 ofthe skill workshops offered. Workshops will need to have at least 4 registrations to be conducted. Not more than 8 participants will be in a single workshop. Early registration is mandatory!You can select among the following skills (after the deadline for registration you will be asked to write about your specific interests to accommodate them the best possible):

1) Radiography shooting and reading

2) Ultrasound imaging and reading

3) Diagnostic anesthesia (cadaver limbs)
