Course description the course is about the structural design and investigation of simple elements of structural timber and steel.

Course Objectives
At the end of the course, the students must be able to
1. Design and investigate simple timber and steel structures; and2. Incorporate relevant provisions of the National Building Code upon the results of such design
and investigations

1. A review of the shear and moment diagrams of1.1 Simply- supported beams1.2 Cantilevered beams1.3 Continuous beams using the moment distribution method
2. Introduction to the design of simply-supported beams3. Introduction to the design of cantilevered beams4. Investigation procedures
4.1 Simply supported and cantilevered beams4.2 Axially-loaded columns
5. Introduction to the design of structural steel6. Design of simply-supported steel sections using the ASTM Manual7. Design of continuous beams by moment distribution method8. Design based on various loading conditions9. Design and investigation of timber and steel beams under moving loads
