Ex-winners Juve, Bayern clash as Real drawn against Roma
Barca face Arsenal, Chelsea play PSG againNYON, Switzerland, Dec 14, (RTRS):Holders and Spanish league leadersBarcelona will play Premier League lead-ers Arsenal in the last 16 of the ChampionsLeague, 10 years after the sides faced eachother in the final, following Monday’sdraw for the first knockout stage.
Spanish league leaders Barcelona, chasing a sixth title, prevailed 2-1 in the2006 final at the Stade de France in Parisand also triumphed in the knockout phasein 2010 and 2011.
Chelsea, who are enduring a torridtime in the Premier League, will faceFrench league leaders Paris St Germain
in the knockout stages for the third yearin succession after the French championstriumphed at the same stage last seasonand the London club had the upper handin the quarter-finals the previous year.
Another clash between big guns will fea-ture former winners Juventus and BayernMunich, while 10-times champions RealMadrid were drawn against AS Roma.
It is the game between the pacesettersin Spain and Arsenal which most catchesthe eye, however.
“We are certain to see a sporting spec-tacular,” said Barca director Albert Soler.
“Arsenal and Barcelona have a similar
style of play. The fans will enjoy them-selves, we’re two sides with a similarunderstanding of the game. They will betwo great matches. We must have maxi-mum respect for Arsenal.”
“Barca are used to playing under pres-sure in every sense. But we are the reign-ing champions and that gives you anedge.”
Arsenal club secretary David Milessaid: “It is not easy and the one to avoid
at this stage, but it is up to us and we willgive them a game.
“Messi, Neymar, Suarez... you couldgo on, but we have our own world classplayers and I am sure they will be fantas-tic games in London and in Barcelona.”
There is also a familiar feel about theChelsea v PSG tie.
“There is not much we don’t knowabout Paris,” said Chelsea general secre-tary David Barnard.
“You only know if it’s a good drawafter the tie. We are ambitious, we havetwo-and-a-half months to prepare,” PSGsports director Olivier Letang said.
Real Madrid and Roma have also seena lot of each other in the competition, though not since 2008 when the Italianswon 2:1 home and away in the last 16.
“You have to be very much on yourguard. If we see ourselves as favouritesthings won’t go well for us,” said Realdirector Emilio Butragueno.
“We know what can happen if you have10 poor minutes on a European night.”
Juventus could come to regret havingblown their finale in the group stage, leaving Manchester City, who will takeon Dynamo Kiev, with the better draw onpaper.

ThePatriots recovered the second one early inthe fourth, and James White made it 27-6with a 2-yard run three plays later.

His 50-yard attempt wasn’t even closeas it sailed wide right.

threw for three touchdowns and ran for ascore all in the second half and theJaguars ended the Colts’ 16-game win-ning streak in the AFC South.

kept San Diego out of the end zone twicein the final seconds for their seventh con-secutive win.

The Broncos (10-3) failed to hold ontoa 12-0 halftime lead or several on-targetthrows from Osweiler, including two bigdrops by Demaryius Thomas, one for atouchdown and another for a late firstdown.
The one that really stung was a drop bya wide-open Vernon Davis at the Oakland42 on fourth-and-5 from the Denver 37with 3:45 left.
Denver’s Brandon McManus, whonailed four field goals in the first half, clanked a 49-yarder that would have tiedit off the left upright with 10:22 remain-ing, however.
