ENGLISH- THE SEALED NECTAR MEMORIES OF THE PROPHET (PBUH)-AUTHOR- ISSAM DIABInvad ing Banu Quraiza

Arc hange l Ga b riel [AWS], on the very da y the Messeng er of Allh [pb uh] came b ac k to

Ma dinah afte r the p revious ba ttle, and while he wa s wa shing in Umm Salam a s house,

visited him asking that he should unshea the his swo rd and hea d for the ha b ita tion of the

sed itious Banu Quraiza and fight them . Gab riel note d tha t he with a p roc ession o f ang els

wo uld go a hea d to shake the ir forts and c ast fea r in their hearts.

The M esseng er of Allh [p buh] , imm ed iately summ oned the p rayer ca ller and ordered

him to announce fresh hostilities against Banu Quraiza, institued Ibn Umm Maktum as a

ruler of Ma dinah , and entrusted the b anne r of wa r to Ali bin Ab i Ta lib w ho m arche d

towards the appointed target and came close enough to hear the Jews abusing theMesseng er of Allh [pbuh] , who o n his pa rt set o ut a t the he ad of three thousand infant ry

men and thirty horsem en o f Ansar(Helpers) and Muhajireen (Emigrants). On t heir wa y to

enc ounter the enem y, the a fternoo n p rayer was due . Som e M uslims refused to ob serve it

until they had defea ted the e nem y, while o thers offe red it in its p rop er time , as usua l. The

Prophet [pbuh] objected to neither. When they reached the habitations of Banu

Quraiza , they laid tight siege to the ir forts. See ing th is te rrible situation they were in, the

c hief of the Jew s Ka b b in Asad offered the m three a lternatives: to emb rac e Islam, and

consequently their life, wealth, women and children would be in full security, and

reminded them tha t such b ehaviour wo uld not b e incong ruous with what they ha d rea d

in their bo oks ab out the verac ity of Muha mm ad s Prop hethood ; to kill their child ren a nd

women and then challenge the Prophet [pbuh] and his followers to the sword to either

exterminate the Muslims or be exterminated, or as a third possibility to take Muhammad[pbuh] and his people b y surprise o n Saturda y a d ay m utually unde rstoo d to witness

    no fighting.

None of tho se a lternatives app ea led t hem , so their c hief, angrily and indignant ly, turned

to the m saying: "You ha ve ne ver been d ec isive in d ec ision-ma king since you w ere b orn"

The gloomy future a lrea dy visible, they ma de c onta c ts with som e Muslims, who had

maintained good relation with them, in order to learn about their fate in the light of the

current c ircum stanc es. They req uested that Abu Luba ba be de spa tche d to them for

advice. On his arrival, the men began to implore, women and children to cry

de spe rat ely. In answe r to the ir de ma nd fo r advice he po inted to his throa t saying it wa s

homicide awaiting them. He then immediately realized that he had betrayed the

    Prophet s trust,

so he head ed direc tly for the mo sque in Ma dinah a nd tied himself to a wo od en ta ll pole

swearing that no one would untie him save the Messenger of Allh [pbuh], and added

that he would never enter the habitation of Banu Quraiza in recompense for the deadly

mistake he ma de . When the Messeng er [pb uh] w as informe d of this incident , he sa id , " I

would have begged Allh to forgive him if he had asked me, but since he had tied

himself ou t o f his ow n free w ill, then it was Allh Who wo uld tu rn to him in forgivene ss."
