"when you get the choice to sit it out or dance....I hope you dance" President Warren Hobbs
Hi Kidman Parkers Busy but positive week past and coming .....Last night was the Rotary Alumni Reunion at Joiners Arms for combined 9500 and 9520. Around 50 attendees from past Rotary programs.Fantastic night with some outstanding brief speakers....both DG's, Matt Williams MP, Ilyasi Siraji and a 17yo RYDER grad....all great for different reasons....and Rotary gave them all a push start. This Sat 9.30am to 3.30 is the 9500 Round Table with attendees PE Tom Bunnik, Liz Foote (Child Protection) and myself. Plus David Simpson and Ed King along in their District roles. Choice of 4 breakout sessions out of 9 sessions total.Great rubber on the Rotary road for all of us. Next Monday night is the Meeting of all Group # 2 Presidents at Assistant Gov David Simpsons home. Then Intercity of KPR, Henley and West Torrens at WBSC. Likely 55 attendees along but not very many of our KPR Partners are on the list. Still OK to come along....Speakers will be special....all the background of the Pinery Bushfires and the hardship they caused for so many families. We will learn a lot. An exciting period in District and KPR!!! Assembly enabled all members to talk through key issues one of which was KPR Charitable Trust. Some good and necessary conclusions...which the Board will be discussing and making some suggestions to the Trustees of the Charitable Trust. Minutes of the Club Assembly to come in a KK within a few weeks. Have a good weekend and keep coolPres Warren

Membership.
Membership Director David Simpson has spoken at the last couple of Meetings about the need to recruit new members and has referred to the “Yass membership Model”
The article below explains this.
Rotary Club of Yass Membership Model(copy and pasted from Judy Ford arVcle)
In an ideal world recruiting a new Rotarian would be a simple matter. You would simply ask the person if he or she would like to join Rotary. Unfortunately, it is not as easy as that. There is always the fear that the person might say no and the feeling of rejection and humiliation can be as strong as the feeling of jubilation should the person say yes.
Certainly there are people who have no problem asking a friend, colleague or acquaintance straight out, but those people are a rare breed. Many clubs hold Rotary membership nights, but even that requires a face-to-face ask.Over the past few years the Rotary Club of Yass, NSW, has come up with a formula for such an evening which, if followed exactly, guarantees new members, without having to personally ask.
We follow the idea of an information night, but there are certain steps we take that make the whole process much easier for everyone.
Our tips:• Ask members to submit names and addresses of anyone they think would make a good Rotarian.• Send an invitation from the president by mail (not email).• Keep the evening informal, cocktail party rather than a meal, and NO GUEST SPEAKER (they have come to hear about Rotary)!• Organise three or four Rotarians to tell their Rotary stories in a few minutes each. Have varied topics such as what happens at meetings, club projects, Polio Plus, overseas opportunities, etc.• As the guests leave give them something to take away (e.g. a brochure on the club).• FOLLOW UP! Have someone contact them the next day to invite them to the next normal meeting.
For more information on this topic and a sample of the president’s letter, please copy and paste in your web browser this linkhttp://www.yassrotary.org/#!membership-recruitment/c9s2
Please give some thought to who you know that might be interested and email the person’s name and contact details,
including a POSTAL ADDRESSto David Simpson

Police Clearances for Rotary Volunteers.A new directive from Rotary District 9500 requires all Rotarians and their Partners who participate in projects with “at risk” individuals / groups to have a Police Clearance.
Liz Foote will be the Club’s “Protection Officer”. The role includes citing and recording the Member’s Police clearance.
If you have not yet completed and lodged the Application, it is suggested that you do so as soon as possible as it currently takes a considerable amount of time due to the high numbers of applications being processed.
The Application is FREE OF CHARGE to Rotarians and Partners.

What! Perth Installs Pop-up Urinal
Lying dormant under Perth’s entertainment precinct by day, the nation’s first retractable public toilet is designed to hydraulically lift into action by night.
The Uri-Lift was installed in the nightlife hotspot of Northbridge, providing revellers with an innovative alternative to public urination on weekends. The self-cleaning, stainless steel urinal is connected directly to the city's sewerage system, and uses significantly less water than traditional public toilets, according to City of Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi."We know there is a demand for more public toilets and the Uri-Lift is a solution that does not compromise the aesthetics of its surrounding public spaces," Ms Scaffidi said.
A touch of paris for Perth. Is Adelaide ready for these?
