DEAR FRIENDS,

The moment I read Neville’s Island, I thought it would be a great fit for us. It’s silly, fun, and more than a bit dark. But I have to admit, a big part of the reason I included it in the season is the set. I often write in these letters about how important variety is to us and how much we strive to make sure that every time you come to Stoneham Theatre is different from the last time. Usually, that’s about the plays and musicals themselves, but sometimes it’s about variety in other ways: like using actors that haven’t been on our stage before (and, by the way, we have three of them in this show) or the scenery. In 15 seasons, we’ve never built a set like this. The challenge of creating an island on our stage, complete with water and a climbable tree, was just too tempting (and fun) to pass up.

We build our sets in our shop about a mile from the theatre. Jason, our Technical Director, Tito, our Master Carpenter, and Brendan, our Carpenter, are the team that takes the plans provided by the designer (in this case, Chris Ostrom, who has designed lights and/or scenery for many of our shows) and turns them into the sets you see on our stage. From the beginning, we knew this one was a bit different from our typical sets, and Jason and Tito brought mock-ups of rock and tree treatments to our initial production meetings so that Chris and I could see what our options were. In addition to trying to make it all look as realistic as possible, we tested the treatments to see which would best withstand four actors climbing all over them.

And then when we started rehearsing, we realized that re-creating the feeling of all the trees, rocks, and water in a rehearsal hall was also tricky. But through a combination of chairs, table, cubes, and imagination, we did our best until we were able to play with the real thing.

There’s no doubt, this play presented all of us with a unique challenge. Hats off to our whole team for all their hard work in rising to that challenge. We think it really paid off. Enjoy the show!

Legacy Society

We are proud to announce the creation of the Kilty Encore

Legacy Society at Stoneham Theatre. The Society recognizes

those individuals who have made a planned gift (a financial

gift to the theatre which will come at the end of their life) to

leave a supportive legacy so professional theatre in Stoneham

can be enjoyed by patrons for many years to come.

The Society has been named in honor of Patricia A. Kilty,

dedicated supporter and a Guild founder, whose commitment

to Stoneham and the theatre has spanned decades. Pat has

indicated that she has remembered the theatre in her estate

planning and is proud to share that fact with theatre donors,

in hope that her participation will inspire others to make a

pledge to support the future of Stoneham Theatre.

Please notify the Development Office at 781-587-7900 if you have already made legacy gift plans so we may appropriately recognize you.

For more information about planned giving options, please contact Beth McNelis,

DONORSThese corporations and foundations have philanthropic priorities which include the arts. Their choice to support Stoneham Theatre is a choice to celebrate the making of professional theatre; a choice to build resources for children who learn creativity, confidence, and self-expression; a choice to build the infrastructure of the economy in downtown Stoneham; a choice to send a message that says they agree with us, that the arts are essential and valuable and belong in Boston’s Metro North region for the enjoyment of all. LEADERSHIP

STONEHAM THEATRE GUILD

A special thank you to the members of the Guild.

The Guild at Stoneham Theatre is a volunteer force over 300 members strong that supports the Theatre’s daily operations. It provides personnel to usher at over 225 performances each year, plus its members assist with hospitality for guest artists, fundraising events, and housing for visiting actors and directors.

Members of the Guild provide countless hours of service without which we would not be able to offer the quality theatre-going experience you’ve come to expect from Stoneham Theatre.

Guild members are a part of our Stoneham Theatre family and are invited to attend performances, special events, and cast parties throughout the year.

If you’re interested in joining, contact Kelly Gaudet, Operations Manager, at 781-587-7901 or [email protected].

CUSTOMER SERVICE

BOX OFFICE

All tickets, memberships and workshop fees are non-refundable. Discounts or special offers must be mentioned at time of purchase, and multiple discounts cannot be combined; proper ID and/or verification of discount are required to redeem tickets. No retroactive discounts will be given. Schedules are subject to change. Tickets may be exchanged prior to the performance for a different performance of the same production for a fee of $5 per order (waived for members). Non-member orders are assessed a $2.50 per ticket handling fee in person or by phone and approximately $3.50 per ticket online (fees are charged on a sliding scale based on ticket price), which enables Stoneham Theatre to keep overall prices low and production values high. Senior, student (full-time student ID required) and Stoneham resident discounts apply to most performances, but not to VIP seating. Ask the Box Office, or check online for details. All sales are final. Premium and standard seating distinctions do not apply to members; members are always offered the best seats available. DONATIONS

As a not-for-profit organization, Stoneham Theatre cannot exist without the generous support of individuals, businesses, and foundations. All financial and in-kind contributions are fully tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. For more information on giving opportunities, including planned giving, call Beth McNelis, Director of Development at 781-587-7900. You may also give online by going to www.stonehamtheatre.org.

GROUPS

Special discount rates are available for groups of 10 or more. In some instances, groups may reserve our art gallery for exclusive pre-show, post-show or intermission receptions. There is a $10.00 handling fee for group ticket orders. For information, contact Carol Dempsey, Director of Sales, at 781-587-7905 or [email protected]

AGE APPROPRIATENESS

We rarely suggest appropriate ages for our productions. We assume all children are different and that parents and guardians are the best judges for what's appropriate. We are happy to provide as much information as possible to help make these decisions. If you have questions, please call.

ACCESSIBILITY

Stoneham Theatre is committed to making theatre accessible to everyone.

Accessible Seating: Patrons with a wheelchair and/or oxygen tank, or requiring other assistance, should inform the Box Office in advance so that accessible seating can be reserved.

Assisted listening devices are available at the Box Office at no charge (photo ID deposit required). These devices have been made possible by the generous support of Barile Family Funeral Homes.

While babes in arms are not permitted and a seat must be reserved for every guest, a limited number of booster seats are available at the concessions stand (photo ID deposit required).
