STAY SAFE! - Ln Mra, Sp Club Cdinat APRIL 2020 The American Spirit Club had an amazing time in Panama! We arrived in Panama City on Monday, February 24 and stayed at the InterContinental Miramar for two nights. Our first full day included a tour of the modern Panama City and a walking tour of the historic district of the city. We were in awe of the diversity of the modern skyscrapers and the older buildings in the Casco Viejo, Spanish for Old Town. We also visited the Miraflores Locks Visitor Center where we were able to get a close-up view of ships transiting through the locks. The center features a museum with exhibits explaining the colossal achievements of building the Panama Canal. The next day we boarded small boats for our Gatun Lake Expedition where our guides took us to see Capuchin and Howler monkeys in their natural habitat on islands in Gatun Lake. After checking into the Gamboa Rainforest Reserve, we took an exciting Aerial Tram Ride high above the rainforest. The view was breathtaking! Following our tram ride, we visited the Sloth Sanctuary where we learned about the rescue, rehabilitation and conservation of sloth and other wildlife of the rainforest. On Thursday, we took dugout canoes across the Chagres River to visit an Embera Indian village. The indigenous tribe retains their own language, cuisine, culture and customs. We were treated to traditional fresh fish and fried plantains for lunch. This tour was many of our guest’s favorite part of the Panama adventure. On Friday we boarded the Pacific Queen to enjoy the cruise through the Chagres River to the Pedro Miguel Locks. We were able to enter the locks with two other ships and experience the steps of the transit journey. On our excursion we also had a great look at the Bridge of the Americas and the Centennial Bridge. Our last few days were spent at the Westin Playa Bonita for some rest and relaxation by the pool looking over the beach. The Panama experience was wonderful, and we will have amazing memories of great adventures with new friends. Sp Us” Panama Tour
