Picture 5. The col-umn stopped at the Stone Mountain Park entrance and we pre-sented our entrance papers for free admis-sion. Usually, it would cost $10.00 for each bike or car but the Georgia SCV Divi-sion arranged that anyone attending the Confederate Memori-al Service would be admitted without charge.

Picture 6. Before the ceremony began gun crews were coordinated by the event coordinator for canons. He’s the gentleman in the circle with the Confederate Battle Flag over his right shoulder and facing the camera.

Picture 14. Col. Robert Powers, Comman-dant Old Guard of the Gate City Guard. The Old Guard Battalion of the Gate City Guard traces heritage back to 1854 when a group of private citizens of Atlanta met to form a pri-vate militia for the sole purpose of assisting the City of Atlanta to keep law and order. The organization was chartered in 1857 as The Gate City Guard of Atlanta Georgia. One of the founding members was William L. Ezzard, the Mayor of Atlanta.

When armed conflict broke out between the Confederate States and the Union States, the Gate City Guard was one of the first units to respond to President Davis's request for troops. At the end of the war, with the South being disarmed, the Gate City Guard was dis-banded. At the end of reconstruction, private militias again began to spring up. Under Gov-ernor William J. Northern, the Georgia Legis-lature placed all private militias under the con-trol of the Governor, thus began what is known today as the Georgia National Guard.

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

NOW AND IN THE FUTURE SO PLEASE JOIN ME IN MAKING SURE TO QUASH ANY NEGATIVE ACTIONS YOU MAY ENCOUNTER SUCH AS IMPROPER EMAILS, PICTURES, FACEBOOK POSTS, MEMBER DISAGREEMENTS, ETC. WE DO NOT LIVE IN A VACUUM- THE ACTIONS YOU TAKE TODAY WILL REFLECT ON THE SCVMC AS A WHOLE AND YOU AS AN INDIVIDUAL. WITH THE SHOOTING INCIDENT IN WACO THERE ARE CALLS IN THE MEDIA TO WATCH OUT FOR "BIKERS" AND "GANGS". WE ARE NOT ENGAGING IN CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES BUT I DO NOT WANT AN OVERZEALOUS CRITIC TO HAVE AMMUNITION TO USE AGAINST US WHEN IT COULD EASILY BE AVOIDED. THINK OF ROBERT E LEE AND STONEWALL JACKSON AND IF THEY WOULD APPROVE THEN WE WILL BE FINE. SEE YOU ON THE FRONT LINES... RIDE AS YOU WOULD WITH FORREST!!!
