Sacrament Season April at St. Peter’s is a busy time for sacra-ments. Vy Tran is preparing for baptism and Augustin and Betsy are joining her at Easter Vigil. The teens are preparing for Confirma-tion. And soon 35 children will be receiving their First Holy Communion.

Each Sunday when the First Communion children gather and arrange themselves by class and wait for the opening prayer. Our prayer is in the form of an action poem. Here it is:

Open wide the doors to morning, take love as you depart.

Walk gently on the earth with kindness in your heart. Open wide the doors to morning,

take courage as you go. Stand for the small and helpless;

work for the good to grow. Open wide the doors to morning, take beauty as a clay,

Mold an act of thankfulness for the blessings of this day.

I am sure that the poem doesn’t rhyme in Spanish but the children enjoy doing it each Sunday. We add a big leap when we say “work for the good to grow.” It has been a wonderful way to begin each class.

Temporada de Sacramento Abril en San Pedro es un tiempo muy ocupado para los sa cramentos. Vy Tran se prepara para el bautismo y Augustin y Betsy se unen con ella en la Vigilia de Pascua. Los ado-lescentes se están preparando para la Confirmación. Y luego 35 niños recibirán su Primera Comunión.

Cada domingo, cuando reunimos a los niños, los organi-zamos por clase y esperamos la oración de apertura. Nues-tra oración es en forma de un poema de acción. Aquí está:

Estoy segura de que el poema no rima en español pero los niños lo disfrutan haciéndolo cada domingo. Añadimos un gran salto cuando decimos "trabajar para que el bien crez-ca". Ha sido una maravillosa manera de comenzar cada clase.

To build our Holy Friday Labyrinth we require over five thousand items of canned food, cereal, oil (which looks great in candle light), and even tooth paste. During Lent children and youth are welcome to bring food items up during prep-aration. Checks made out to St. Peter may be marked “food.” Funds will be used to purchase cans at a reduced rate: Food for thought, Food for the journey, Food for the world.

The Holy Oils

The Oil of the Sick (OI), the Oil of Catechumens (OC), and te Holy Chrism (SC)

Consecrated oil is always a sign of God’s mercy. So the meaning of priestly anointing always includes the mission to bring God’s mercy to those we serve. In the lamp of our lives, the oil of mercy should never run dry.” (Pope Benedict).
