“Hannah A. has made great strides

    in Criminology class this semester!

She got off to a really slow start at

nah has definitely gotten the hang

of what it takes to be successful,

and I know that she will continue inher efforts.

Thank you Hannah for all of your

hard work! Keep it up! I am proud

    of you!!!”

End of Course (EOC) exams are coming up in May

If you are taking any of these courses, you are required to take an EOC exam

in-person with us. The EOC courses are English 1, Algebra 1, Math Tech 2,

Intermediate Algebra: Functions and Modeling, Biology 1, Applied Biology 2,

    US History.

These exams count as 20 of your grade for that course. You should have

received your letter in Kmail telling you when and where you’ll be testing.  If

you have not, please contact Ms. Patterson or your advisor.

SCVCS has been recommended to receive the national AdvancED®

accreditation! Education around the world use AdvancED® as the “gold standard” of aca-

demic excellence. Its rigorous criteria demonstrate that a school that receives the AdvancED® ac-

creditation is committed to, and is successful in, providing quality instruction, enhancing student

achievement, recognizing student achievement, and encouraging professional growth.

The benefits of the AdvancED® accreditation are enormous! Among the many benefits, accredita-

tion ensures parents and students greater ease in transferring credits/grades between schools

within South Carolina and other states, and families gain greater access to student federal loans,

scholarships, post-secondary education, and military programs that require students to attend an

    accredited school.

Achieving the AdvancED® accreditation is an accomplishment of which we are all proud! Thank

you for your help, support, and participation in this process. We look forward to serving you as we

continue to achieve greatness at SCVCS!

    SCVCS Student Spotlight: Soía Mazón

    Sofía Mazón has made a

    huge impact in her community.

She was recently name a Girl of

Merit , which is only given to ten

    girls across the state.

    When asked about describing a

Girl of Merit she said, “ A Girl of

Merit is a recognition that is giv-

en to only 10 girls in the state of

South Carolina. A Girl of Merit is

a girl who has proven herself to

    be an exceptional member of

    the community through her ac-

    tions, activities, leadership, and

    positive influence on others. I

    became interested in being a

Girl of Merit because I think that this is a symbolic representation of my dedication to

continue to serve my community.” To be named a Girl of Merit is an incredible ac-

complishment and demonstrates the characteristics of being a great role model

    within a community.

Sofia went on to explain the pros of being named a Girl of Merit . She said, “One of

the pros of being a Girl of Merit is that it is an award that continues to motivate me

to be committed to excellence in all areas of my life.” She also explained how her

life has been enhanced by it, “My life has been enhanced because of this award

because I feel that it is in my hands to help inspire other girls to take action in their

communities as well.” Through Sofia’s leadership she probably wouldn’t have a

problem inspiring other girls to take action. Sofia is clearly a positive example in her

community as she strives for excellence. Sofia said, “The best thing I enjoy about be-

ing a Girl of Merit  is the commitment to excellence. I feel inclined to give my best ef-

fort in everything I do. I wouldn’t change a thing about being a Girl of Merit !” We

can conclude that every community needs a girl like Sofia!

Victor egron  joined my Honors English IV class in January and immediately made

his friendly presence evident. He would strike up conversations with other students duringthe 30 minutes prior to class beginning, reaching out with his interests and plans for his fu-

ture and chatting with them about many different topics and interests he had.

As a teacher, I appreciated so much his contributions to class discussions and his cleverobservations about topics. I felt such a loss to find out that Victor had passed away. Theloss of potential is so evident, and I think I can speak for his classmates and our school by

wishing peace and comfort for his family and friends.”

    Mrs Brewer

It is with great sadness that we recognize one of our Seniors whopassed away on March 24th, 2016. Our sincere condolences to

Victor’s family during this difficult time. The SCVCS family will

continue to keep you in our thoughts and prayers.
